An exceptional documentary detailing our troubled past in relation to the FRU handling itself within the conflict.
The state really did murder its own citizens....
Should we as a collective society allow the government to hide this?
Without taking sides in our conflict, on a moral , transparent note , should we allow the state to murder and go unchallenged?
Put yourself in the daughter, mother, sons shoes knowing their family member was murdered on the orders of the state in which they were a citizen with rights like everyone else.
Would you not want to know the truth?
The legacy of the past should be put into the hands of the people, not politicians. I wouldn't want any political party to get a moral high ground or do well in some elections over these issues.
We all just want the truth of what happened and if a wrong was done by whom was this ordered by and for what reason.
We all just want the truth, some will want justice also but I would take truth over justice this far down the road than anything else.

Sadly it is going to have a time limit as the British government love a good cover up and expect their citizens to maintain an amnesiac state about Northern Ireland. Even more sadly their strategy tends to work. I doubt many English people have ever seen these documentaries.

Watching in April 2023, and comparing the facts within with the celebratory accolades of the GFA 25th anniversary. I continue to pray these families, victims, and all Ireland receive justice. The other thought that I cannot avoid is to wonder how today, the people and their SF, having lived and died under these corrupt, ruthless circumstances, can unequivocally and so publicly support the bloodthirsty regimes of Hamas, Fatah and PLO that employ these very same tactics and extrajudicial murders against its own people, as well as Israelis and Arabs alike? It makes no sense; the Republicans should and do know better. Fix this. And know and live in peace. Thank you.

The FRU (force research unit )was a unit of the UDR ( local NI staff mainly from the Loyalist community working in plain clothes not as the regular Army in uniform) they where used to facilitate murder through the UDA and UVF gangs by giving them intelligence etc. ( and some say weaponry ) and ensuring the attackers had a free run during the attacks. It was known at the time they were disliked by the RUC Special Branch and indeed the regular Army from HQNI. No one was quite sure where their commander Col Gordon Kerr got his authority from. As a fall back if anything went wrong and their practical role in murder became exposed, as it did with the Stevens enquiry. the Unit had an 'informer handling' smoke screen to fall back on e.g. the Brian Nelson 'fog'. So involved were the FRU in murders that after the Stevens enquiry the Chief Constable of the day Sir Hugh Orde wanted to arrest the Army GOC in N Ireland . I'm sure the GOC knew little of Kerr's operations it is more than probable the unit was run directly by MI5 who take their orders from the Cabinet Office (strangely enough Tony Blair has put those cabinet papers beyond reach for 80 years ) . Telling after the FRU was disbanded Col Gordon Kerr was made a Brigadier with an MI6 role located in China.

Absolute bollox, undoubtedly the UDR was utilised by FRU but it was much further up the food chain. FRU was more aligned to a power base in Whitlehall and Millbank than any agency within the province.

As others have already said.. absolute balls! FRU was most definately not staffed by anyone from Northern Ireland for the simple reason MI5, 14th Intel, The Shed @ Aldergrove (if you know you know) viewed most local Army personel as a security risk regardless of where they were originally from. The rumour at the time (doubt that it actuallly happed) was that the PIRA was actually sending volunteers to join the UDR to gather intel on the regiment itself and any other info they could get their hands on. I know of several soldiers that served in Northern Ireland in the 80s and 90s with various regiments that kept the UDR at arms length due to these rumours and I also know many ex UDR men who hated the Loyalist paramilitaries as much as the Nationalists / Republicans and wanted to serve and protect their country the right way who were pulled in for questioning and security checks while being totally innocent and unrelated to any wrong doing such as paramilitary involvement . Not saying there wasn't Loyalist killers in the UDR during the Troubles as there was but nothing to do with the FRU.. they were totally a law onto themselves controlled at high level locally and by London and staffed with not staffed by UDA / UVF men under the guise of being UDR.

But all u get is outright denial from the IRA or they just say that the British were an aggressive occupying power which technically they are lol. I'm aware of the history. But u don't hear about the150 RUC guys that were killed, I think alot of them were just doin there job. And what about all the casualties in the regular army who were trying to restore order an d were also just doin there jobs, all these people had fathers and mothers too. I'm well aware what the British were doing lol. They helped write the book on that kind of warfare people but the IRA wanted a war. The English gave them one.... dont start something u won't finish

I can presume that you are not an Evangelical nutcracker. Americans in general do support nations who are under the suppression of dictators etc. With the one exception, Israel. For some strange reason they fail to see the suppression and subjugation of six million Palestinians, who are targeted by the IDF on a regular basis. The Israel right wing call it "mowing the grass" Even military operations like "cast lead" where over fourteen hundred innocent civilians were murdered in Gaza over a three week period fails to register in the collective consciences of the people in the USA

John Toner Sun 31 Dec 2023 at 07:00 Ex-UDA kingpin Johnny Adair believes the IRA were the most effective “guerrilla army” of all time and admitted he wouldn’t have the courage of the Hunger Strikers. Convicted terror chief Adair (60) has also fondly remembered narrowly escaping jail with his nipples intact after a prison officer attempted to remove his jewellery with a hacksaw. Speaking to career criminal and anti-Islam hate preacher Tommy Robinson on his podcast, Adair was full of praise for his deadly enemies of the past and revealed he would have refused to go on hunger strike for his cause. Robinson says: “I’ve seen the IRA described as the best guerrilla warfare army there has ever been”, to which Adair says: “And they were, that’s a fact and I’m not scared to say that, I’ll not tell a lie, of course they were. “Their bombmaking technology was a step ahead of the British Army, the army tried to keep ahead of them and the IRA was always in front. “Even the Hunger Strikers, I grudgingly respect them men too, they starved themselves to death for a political cause, dedication at the highest level. Learn more “Now I’m dedicated, and I knew one day I could lose my life and the IRA would get me, and I accepted that because I didn’t know what day it would be. “These hunger strikers, death was staring themmuns in the face for 60-odd days. If I was asked to give my life on hunger strike? No I wouldn’t do it, I wouldn’t have been as brave to do that.
