The prehistoric Finns and the passage where, in the Golden Bough, tells of the strange power they have over other ships, and the sea, something like beware the Finns etc. Then later in the book it gets into wind knots which isn't very important - what is is the mastery of the sea enough to be mythical even among vikings.

Personally, I lean towards Iceland. There is a lot of strangeness up in our part of the world (I'm Norwegian), if you study old maps. My grandfather was a collector and I have inherited some of them and I have medieval maps showing land bridges to Greenland and all kinds of strange things. Most of them also show Ultima Thule, some of them just naming Iceland or Svalbard (in later maps) as Ultima Thule

@@solinvictus2018 yeah I’ve seen old maps where Iceland has towers, castles and cities way before it’s supposed to. I think there could have been a volcanic eruption that buried the island. Just look at the Canary Islands in Spain, it doesn’t take long before the whole place is submerged in rock. Also when you look at Britain, Norway and Sweden there is a lot of old stuff, possibly because there are no volcanoes in these areas but they are very close.

I think Thule is the Penninsula part of Scandinavia, Norway and Sweden, if not just the island Smøla in Norway, once much bigger. But Norway and Sweden was often believed to be a big island at the time, which was even believed by people from there, the goths who called it Scandza and said that it was a great island. The idea that it was so prosperous I believe comes from the Bronze Age when Scandinavia was the richest in northern Europe due to their amber trade. It would be a mysterious place for those who lived in the south, but they'd know of how rich is was based on the wealth of the amber traders they'd meet, clad in decorated bronze like the Troyans. Culturally it also fits with how the thuleans and hyperboreans are described. Strong and uncorruptable is similar descriptions to that of the germanic tribesmen later on, shunning the reliance on farming with a strict honor code, big and well built like the Romans had only seen in their veteran legionaires who had lived and fought in Germania for years. They're always described as far more physically imposing compared to the royal guards of Rome because of the greater physicality they had achieved when living in the harsher lands of Germania living on similar diets to the germanics whoms they found to be so tall and well built. This of course also matches the accounts of the Hyperboreans as Scandinavia is often believed to be the lands where giants live, no doubt being based on the mountains there and size of people. Once again going back to the Bronze Age, this is when it is believed that the houses of norse mythology came from, with the jotuns, the giants, living in the far north before the introduction of the sami, a much smaller people. Maybe these "jotuns" are the Thuleans who were chased away by the dwarves? Considering samis were much smaller and still are today, coupled with the fact that they lived inwards in the land and not along the coasts, they could appear as earth-dwellers, innlanders. Through myth creation that might relate to the idea of living in the earth itself. It matches the migration history of northern Scandinavia since the scandinavians stopped living that far north once the centralization of the Bronze Age begun and the samis entered the north.

In the Balto-Finnic languages, the archaic form of the word fire is "thule", which is why Lennart Meri, for example, speculated that the island of Thule of Pytheas of Massalia (who lived about a thousand year before the Vikings) was located in the Baltic Sea. There is an Estonian island, Saaremaa, whose Bronze Age meteor crater Kaali has been considered a grave or a prison of the sun in old folk tales. The work of Pytheas of Massalia has not survived, so we don't know much about his voyage to behind the Peninsula of Cimbria to the Sea of Sarmatia and beyond. But according to surviving quotes, Thule was a place where there were no nights in summer and no days in winter, the people threshed their grain inside the buildings and drank wine made from honey. And the people of Thule never stopped showing the place where the sun had once died.
@wtfwhereami2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like some arctic circle type stuff there
@bradleylovej Жыл бұрын
That is really, really interesting that thule means fire in Balto-Finnic languages. Fire is a very often a word with strong esoteric meaning. For instance, shin and shen both mean fire in Hebrew and Buddhist traditions, respectively. In both cases, fire means holy power that transforms. In the Buddhist instance, it means life force energy which has been harnessed and transformed into holy energy, which in turn transforms the user. Often when you see people labeled as red, or fire, or their land is called fire, it means they were harnessing spiritual fire. They can then use this to become fierce warriors, highly intellectual wizard types, or even godlike beings that seem immortal. Sounds very similar to what Mr. Mythos was describing the Hyperboreans to be like. Also, lots of people think the Vikings harnessed this power, and that's why they were so tough.
@nyc4668 ай бұрын
If you also consider that Kaali is surrounded by 9 craters... which is the Viking number of course, and - chronologically the meteor hit during the prehistory age.. Vikings would have and allegedly did worship Kaali as a sacred site. This part of Estonia is also have said to be the richest of the 'East Vikings'. It all makes sense, because the meteor enabled them to trade dolomite and use it on/for weapons (spearheads with dolomite from this meteor were found in Switzerland). Maybe they mined it and erected God like ways of living like the first painting in the video depicts... Either way - it could have been a combination of both Iceland & Estonia - Icleand is on Teutonic plates and this meteor could have impacted a further rift perhaps? Records indicate it was Hiroshima like impact during that time.. I mean the dolomite Italian Alps - this thing likely moved things around... There are also natural fires that exist in Iceland.. due to the thermal heat and certain pressures. Although the description also sounds - if you take it literally - like Pytheas saw the Aurora Borealis... Famously visible all over Iceland. Depending on the time of year he could have seen it in Saaremma.. I really hope P's works are uncovered somehow during our lifetime! Maybe the Masons had a copy and the Alexandrian wasnt the only surviving full script!

But it has always been known islands on the yeast coast named Papey meaning islands of the Papas who were monks that lived before 874. In the recent decades we have found a few archaeology sites who are at least few hundred years older (C14 confirmed). The library of Alexander was never actually burned to the ground. During its long lifetime it was burned a few times but never fully destroyed. It was also much, much smaller than a lot of people say. Also, it was one of many libraries at the time and not even the biggest one of those

Hyperborea reminds me of Lintukoto (lit. "Bird home", also known as "Isle of Bliss"). Legend says it is somewhere in south east, in a place where sky and land touch each other. Birds fly there in fall. Everything there is small because sky is so close. Even people are small. It could have also been outside the "world dome". People there lived happily and in sayings "lintukoto" is a place of eternal bliss.

Honorable mention, some of the old maps with Mount Meru have a island called Frisland with towns depicted. It's on more than one map and then it disappeared.

Im surprised this was not touched on, but if you research some of Admiral Byrd's expeditions to the uncharted northern continents, his journals were quoted to have mentioned in some detail very similar aspects that were given in the account regarding Thule. Only Byrd was flying in his private plane rather than sailing. Regardless, he also spoke of the lands being lush with thriving vegetation and the sun overhead when it was clearly closer to evening time. He also detailed the merge of ocean/land/and air into a thick liquidity that could be breathed and had the look of ripples atop water with aspects of refracted light, or colors of the rainbow. Sounds like a modern day explorer also found himself over Ultima Thule. You should read what Admiral Byrd wrote for yourself, Mr. Mythos. The similarities are unmistakable. Thanks again for another inspired investigation. You are one of my favorite content creators by far.

The story of the Library of Alexandria has me wondering if possibly much of the library has ended up in the bowels of the Vatican.
@jc7997aj2 жыл бұрын
Doubtful unless they were copies transported there before the fire. I dont think much was saved from the fire and what was likely hasnt survived the ages.
@SpiritGirlSF2 жыл бұрын
@@jc7997aj There are other ways of doing it in addition to books taken before the fire. They could have made multiple copies of each book they could get their hands on, they were so famously known for their fondness of seizing books and making one copy so making more than one is not such a stretch, especially if they did it in the years running up to the fire. I know they like to tell us that it was a spontaneous event by the radical Christians that dealt the death blow to the library but remember his story is written by the victors to spin any way desired. The radicalized Christians were already under the influence of Rome so its not a stretch either for this to be a possibility. Just theories but what do I know...... I just ponder a lot.
@jc7997aj2 жыл бұрын
@@SpiritGirlSF it is possible. But transcribing in those days was tedious and laborious. I also wonder since much knowledge in those times were "occult". How free the access to the library was and if the Vatican would have had to use agents and spies to procur rhe scrolls and manuscripts.

your videos are the highlights to my week! Thule is a fascinating topic. I always felt that it had a connection to Iceland. Even has an Australian of European descent, I've always had a strange longing associated with the country. What i would give just to see a glimpse of the ancient world and how grand it must have been. Time to fire up the chronovisor!
@UncleCornPop2 жыл бұрын
Depending on the age of Ultima Thule, do you think that perhaps the meteor impact in Greenland about 12000+ years ago played a part in displacing/destroying many of these ancient paradises of legend? that could explain a mass migration to other lands nearby, but perhaps those events happened earlier than these civilizations developed? I'm just being autistic here, i know

I'm guessing Thule still exists, but they just removed it from modern maps due to the connection with inner Earth. There's a few huge islands toward the Arctic that used to appear on old maps, but have since been removed..

It seems to me that Pythias may have been describing a very thick fog. Also the dwarfs must be Skraelinge, the Arctic pygmies often mentioned in Nordic lore. The Picts are an enigma, however, their type of drawings and their fondness of tattoos, reminds me of the contents of early Scythian graves.
