Man, for months, months, I sat down scratching my head over tri wikan, Hecate and lunar goddess because I got dragged down this insane rabbit hole trying to find a link or some kind of sense between the Moon Sisters and the Shades. It just kept dragging my all over the shop till the witches even ended up involved, namely, Barbeloth, Rhinedottir, Alice and Nicole, it's not just witches too, there's also the Sustainer of the Heavenly Principles and Istaroth. It got so bad I got burned out, I thought I was alone in the maze hell but look. Now that I am not alone, maybe I might get back into it again. Once I have finished the video I'll comment some of my findings, obviously not all of which will make any sense but I'll try to keep it to stuff I could make some sense of.

I didn't expect the bomb about the Sinner's identity in 4.7 to be what it was, but it still did confirm some thoughts about the lore that I'd been entertaining... and helped me to refocus my head canon in a way that makes a LOT more sense, in hindsight. Laevateinn is also Surtr’s (the king of the fire giants and arguably the strongest being in norse mythology) main weapon during Ragnarok. And it’s the weapon that plunges the entire world into flame before its rebirth. We have Surtalogi in Genshin. Whose name seems to be a mix of Surtr and Loki but with an added G. This dude likely has Laevateinn as his personal weapon.

This channel is criminally undersubscribed. I love how you branch off into so many cultures' folklore. You've really brought together eastern and western mythologies and linked them in a way that your viewers don't have to know the specific stories to understand their connection to each other and their relevance to the world of genshin. i cannot imagine how much research it takes to put these together -- even if you were already familiar with the mythologies, looking things up, translating, all of it -- it must be very time consuming. Spoilers about it below (ver. 4.7) The book cover is a reference to "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd, as is the note at the end - "I do so wish you were here". Judging by its ending, it is probably a tribute to Andersdotter by the members of Hexenzirkel. The book is written by several people, knowing who is responsible for a given chapter makes it easier for us to understand their research area. My guess as to the authorship of a given chapter is: Vol. 1 - more than one author/Alice Vol. 2 - Barbeloth Vol. 3 - Rhinedottir Vol. 4 - Ivanovna Vol. 5 - Andersdotter Vol. 6 - Nicole Vol. 7 - more than one author/Alice

Good observations, but you missed the most obvious inspiration. The name Hexenzirkel is typically for Mondstadt a German name, and so you could've taken a look into German fairy tales, legends and myths, and what they say of witches. Another clue is Mona's special food, which is called: "Der Weisheit letzter Schluss", also German and a direct quote of the poet Goethe's play "Faust". (Goethe is referenced as an NPC both in Genshin and Star Rail too.) In Goethe's Faust on Walpurgis Night a coven of witches convenes with demons and the devil on the top of a mountain. Exploring this would've probably opened up a lot more interesting things.

​@@justacatwithasadface2692 If the fates are the "good guys" or needed to wave a new fate(?) then it's possible that the witches could be trying form a plan to save them If the power that exiled the moon's is still strong, the acquiring the knowledge and means to manipulate Teyvat's laws is a step towards that I think witches being followers of the moon and meddling with fate is fitting, since that's been the mythos around preforming occult rituals Opposed to daylight, where most catholic rituals are held, worshipping 'one true god'

I went back to the 3.5 dain quest today and I noticed that the writers and cinematography of the sinner cutscene suggest the voice isn’t connected to the crystal. When the sinner talks it says “voice inside the head” and instead of looking straight at the crystal the traveler look around, as if the voice surrounds them. I would like to then add to what you said and suggest that the sinner and the crystal are not the same person!

So I've had this thought for a long time that the fox-eyed grandmother from Heart's Desire, the golden-eyed maiden from Bamboo forest, and the amber eyed mage from 1000 Nights are the same person. They each have: 1) Gold eyes: I'm counting amber as gold. While I describe the grandmother as fox-eyed here, as that is their most common descriptor, they were also described as golden. 2) A non-linear understanding of time /An ability of foresight: The fox eyed grandmother claims that a bottle that has not yet been bought is already spoken for in the future, the gold-eyed maiden knows the future of the boy she rescues, and the amber-eyed mage shows the Dastur visions of an entire life where he fails to live up to his promise. 3) A strong thematic bond with stories : Granny appears in an anthology and has artifacts from old stories(Wine from the ice age, the heart of a god) as well as becomes a part of new stories that she facilitates by guiding the purchases of her guests to their desires, the Maiden tells the boy a number of stories (particularly about the Moon sisters) and also mentions that she is protecting stories from Deus Auri, and the Mage tells the Dastur that she has witnessed the other stories in the anthology she appears in. 4) A hidden nature: It's hard to find Granny's shop that seems to move between Liyue and Monstadt, the Maiden explicitly narrates that she is in hiding, and the Mage is not encountered until the Dastur is lost in a sandstorm in the desert depths. Maiden, Mage, Crone? 5) An ambiguous creature-type: While the Granny is fox-eyed, she is not explicitly called a fox. The Maiden is originally thought to be a horse adepti before the boy dismisses the idea of her being an adepti at all. The mage is only described as a mage, which is likely the result of her use of the staff to disappate the sandstorm. I'm disregarding the amber-eyed woman in Rex Incognito because she's implied by the nature of that story to just be Zhongli in a different form. Other fox women either do not have eye colors mentioned that I can find or have different eye colors (Fox in the Dandelion Sea's fox women has 'crystal-lake' eyes, or blue eyes). There are a couple of other maidens in books that I think might be a similar type of character, but don't have all of the above traits to make it certain (Angelica from Perinheri has no eye-color mentioned, for example).

this is incorrect, because after 4.7 AQ it's finally being told that 5 sinners are just the 5 people of khaenriah that have immeasurable powers that betrayed their nations, the 5 sinners are not hexenzirkel, they are different thing but Rhinedottir is a part of Hexenzirkel and a part of 5 sinners. the other 5 sinners are Dain's brother (which turn out to be Vedrfolnir) and Surtalogi (Skirk's master)

Since we talk about Mona, i think it needs to be said the symbol of star and moon in her hat is the symbol of finality this is actually connected to HI3rd/HSR, you can browse the stigmata of "Herrscher of Finality" or stigmata of Kiana, the symbol is totally the same as the symbol in Mona's hat one more interesting thing is only TWO characters in hoyoverse that have meaning of "MOON" one of them is Kiana (Diana's reference, obviously... goddess of moon) and Mona (Old english, mean Moon). i don't think it's all coincidence, since both Mona & Barbeloth are deeply connected to the moon.

I've now gotten a bit curious after seeing this video. Is the Island in the sky Celestia where, if im correct, the remaining moon sister dwells, and the Primordial one dwells in the true Celestia that exists on or above the firmament, aka the loading screen? This would mean that anyone in Celestia would just look upwards or/ downwards and see all of Teyvat in this skyward view. We've established the Teyvat is in a firmament that is flipped upside down since the people of Nation K could see the true sky as opposed to the people who live in Teyvat. So since Penacony is like this then it would make since that Teyvat will look like this too.

Here's how: Barbeloth is Genshin's Asteria (Greek Goddess of Divination) During Masquerade of the Guilty, Mona says that only a Visionary can truly understand the Prophecy of Fontaine and heavily implies that her master is one. The only Visionary we know about in the game is Vedrfolnir (Norse Mythology Hawk on top of Yggdrasil who stands between the eyes of a giant eagle) In Greek Mythology, Zeus transformed into an Eagle to try and force himself on Asteria due to the "Sin" of Lust. I bet you can figure the rest out on your own.
