Andrea Canziani has the sole pair of a factory defected Nike Air Jordan 1. The defect? An upside down swoosh on the left sneaker. The price tag: nearly $150,000. An error that would seem trivial to most has become a phenomenon in the sneaker world.
In this episode of Sneakers by VICE, we profile how and why Andrea discovered and managed to purchase the sneaker, the sneaker's story as well as Milan's sneaker scene, traveling with Andrea to Dropout, a sneaker store in Milan where he works.

Hmmm, realistically something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. The appraisal means nothing because it isn't backed by a bid he will have rejected. The highest offer is all it's worth, as the auction will show. The hype around it will gas people up to spend more for it, but hey ho 🤷🏾‍♂️ the market decides. Sick video though, reminds me of SNKR Inc. stuff👌🏾 Quality crep content is scarce nowadays, do more please chaps 👍🏾

Honest question because I don't know, but isn't most of this manufacturing automated? Like, all those panels are pre-cut either by automaton on someone operating one. Same goes for sewing. Whoever makes these shoes, do not just willy nilly sew things where they want to. I would imagine everything has a template and you can't just sew it on upside down by mistake. But IDK. Anyway, if this is real, it was a deliberate effort by someone especially since it looks so perfect and on purposes vs. a manufacturing mistake.
@rockguitar2012
@rockguitar2012 5 жыл бұрын
Yes that's what I was thinking - surely the swooshes will be machine sewn on, and the machines will probably have the pattern programmed into them. I don't see how this mistake is even possible.
@antihax91
@antihax91 5 жыл бұрын
Not as much is automated as you might think - Workers are much easier to retrain than the kinds of machinery used at this level of mass production. Given how many styles, colors, materials and even just slight variants are available from a brand, it probably works out to be way more economical to teach a new sewing pattern than to completely retool a machine - Even this style of shoe (the Jordan 1) has a variant that has the swoosh on upside down as a design choice. To a human, it's a pretty intuitive change, but to a machine, this basically becomes a different shoe and needs to be retooled, tested, and adjusted all for such a limited run.
@ryananouar
@ryananouar 5 жыл бұрын
No, some documentaries showed us Vietnamese factories. Parts are automatic manufactured but the final assembly of the shoe is made by hands for every shoes since there is so much colors and materials varieties. The reverse swoosh was probably made to be part of an other shoe but end up in this Jordan by mistake.

@@theopenmindedskeptic2188 its about collecting things that look good. aesthetics in general is a very subjective topic, so not everyone will appreciate the sneakers design and that is okay. Collecting sneakers is no different than collecting art, and more often than not its cheaper too.
