People are inconsistent with their logic. It was mostly a want to get rid of the terrible replacement referees, combined with people incorrectly thinking Jennings didn't need to have his feet down in the end zone, simply because he had both hands on the ball first. As for PI, well it was obviously the first missed call in NFL history.

Crazy to me that some GB fans are to this day more upset about this, than the NFC Championship game that GB lost in Seattle. The "Fail Mary" was one game, very early in the season. Not a playoff game. I seriously don't understand how they are STILL so salty over one pretty inconsequential game over a decade later.

Well, I'm not one of them. But I will say it did impact the playoffs seeding. Green Bay would have been the #2 seed and gotten a bye. And San Francisco would have played in GB instead of the other way around (assuming they would have beat the Vikings). And who knows if Colin Kaepernick runs all over GB on the road (probably). The bye week would have been the bigger thing though.

I’m pretty sure that rule wasn’t in the NFL yet. This was 2012 and at the time the rule said once defense takes possession the play is dead. So there’s literally no risk in kicking it. It wasn’t until 2015 they added the rule that exists now, the same year they moved the PAT backwards.
