china's metro does not look like an airport. they look like Indian Metros only. Those videos u see on insta r misleading. Only their Bullet train stations look like airports from inside but from outside they also have basic Box design, Not some fancy glass Balls like design that government planned for delhi

In some ways, I do also get the govts reluctance to spend 8500 Cr, pakke se koi na koi gadha aake bolta 'saar aap sirf dilli mumbai jaise shehro me paise lagate ho, what abt XYZ station in ABC' and it would've been bad politically. And it's not really worth 8500 Cr either, especially considering the cheaper cost of construction in India. Would've been a good deal for 5k Cr tho

It's a shame. We are almost a 4 Trillion USD economy. Building a 1.1 billion USD (7-8000 crore Rs) railway stations for the national capital, should be feasible. If govt didn't wanted to fully contribute the money, it could have sold the majority stake in Railway station for 40-50 years or so. It would have been a game changer for the image of Delhi. And could have attracted more real estate investments. Unfortunately, we have not been able to iconic building in the National Capital since independence. It doesn't have to be The Burj Khalifa, or Shanghai Tower, it could be more like The Vessel in New York.

I will be honest, the new design of New Delhi railway station is actually not bad. Last one was a way too big, ambitious and kinda impractical in a sense that there is not enough space to make it. Especially in Daryaganj side. New building is much practical, simple and actually really good. You have to remember that architect designs are just concept and engineers specially don't usually agree with architects. Which is why it's important to make it practical while looking modern and aesthetic. Again new building is really nice and actually has good features. What we need is to complete the redevelopment of New Delhi railway station as soon as possible so that other stations get priority basis as well like Old Delhi station, Nizamuddin station and Anand Vihar. Especially Anand Vihar as RRTS project will go through this section

Fr, Anand Vihar can go a few more years imo, but Nizamuddin and Old Delhi redevelopment was needed YESTERDAY. Another project they need to put afterburners on is BIjwasan (at Delhi Airport) to relieve the pressure while the stations get rebuilt.

Bhai, govt paise bhi to dena nahi chhati, pehle ka budget 5k Crore (tenders 8k crore ka aaya isi liye cancel ho gaya) tha. Ab achanak se budget 2.5k crore pohonch gaya. Koi clarification bhi nahi, ki kab tak khatam hoga, kab issue hoga remaining tender, kya hogi final project ki value. Mere opinion me agar pehle hi 5k crore ka budget tha, to achanak se plans ko 2.5k crore + future tender (jo jis tarah hamare yaha kaam hota hai kabhi nahi banega) is a bad decision.

There's also a little bit to be said about our bad railway station design strategy and how it all links back to Indian railways' horrible on time performance, which means there's a lot more people reaching hours early to the station, sleeping on platforms, etc. This artificially inflates crowds at stations. If trains were actually on time, we wouldn't need to build massive railway stations with large waiting rooms, massive concourses, etc. and everything would be a lot cheaper to build. People would just reach the station 20 mins or so earlier and be off on their journey. (This applies less to stations with significant suburban train traffic which because of its frequency has this problem less) Just look at Shinjuku which handles the most passengers per year but still doesn't need massive concourses. Of course, this isn't a criticism of the current redevelopment project, which is desperately needed either way as our stations are in an extremely poor and sometimes downright dangerous state and I do also recognize the railways' (failed) efforts to improve their on time performance. The redevelopment is required also for other reasons, like separation of arrivals and departures and integration of modern tech into stations. Nor am I faulting the station designers, who can only design based on the passenger numbers they're expected to deal with. I'm just saying, that if the railways manages to solve its punctuality woes, they'd need to spend a lot less money building railway stations capable to handle higher peak traffic.

world class infra project is imp but.... not First priority.... First priority should be... basic clean amenities... like.... public restrooms clean streets... animal free streets... clean drinkable water from taps... most developed nations are this way... which big infra we know about nordic countries, new Zealand, Australia.... none.... but we are in competition of making tallest statues, mandir, .... and all other craps.... before investing on basic amenities.... most villages in India don't even have garbage Collection van, or Sewage system.... plastics are getting dumped into fertile lands

I have an idea as a solution for this problem like if you will go by the new design there's no scope left for the old design to ever build until unless the the building is complety destroyed so why not we take a long time step by step approach to complete the building like for say 20 years in which under 4 stages whole structure would be complete but the station would be opened for use from the completion of stage one?
