I had no idea about Project Frixion until now! That really was a roller coaster! Even though it's obvious looking back that the movie was never going to come out, I have nothing but respect for the group of kids behind it. As someone who also had high ambitions as a teenager and wanted to create my own movies, these people got further than I ever did. Hell, there are fully grown ADULTS who never got as far as they did when it comes to online projects! They had a ton of art, a website, and a dedicated team that seemed to really care about what they were making (the fact that some of them are still around today with Convexity Studios is a testament to this). We can all look back and laugh at our own teenage naivety. We all believed we could do anything. But to actually act on that belief and put YEARS of effort into it like these guys did...that can be a rare thing. I'll definitely check out Convexity Studios after this! Great video, Miharu!

I already said it once but I'm gonna say it again: this is all reminds me of how the Erin Hunter group teased at a Warrior Cats movie years ago, but it's just been radio silence since then, which I feel inspired a lot of people to take it upon themselves to make one, like SSS and Little Dragon. I always thought all LOS needs is some tender love and care in the porting department. Port the original trilogy, while re-inserting as many unused levels and cutscenes and voice lines as hopefully were saved on a hard drive somewhere. New Beginning does not need that much, that game is probably mostly complete. I personally never wanted a movie, I loved the games for the exploration and style (and I loved about half of the combat). There is no interactivity and no sense of discovery in a non-interactive LOS.
@lk_3099 Жыл бұрын
I personally think a full remake that stays faithful to the original games plus adding all the cut content/concepts is ideal. The world feels so empty in the first two games, I'd love to see a few more locations on the way to rescuing the guardians in the first game or finding the Chronicler in the second game. Like villages or other cut side characters to really flesh out the world. I'm pretty sure there should be a few more dragons in the world.

I just hope Jeffrey Walters finish's his Skylanders Academy fan film. Say what you will about Skylanders it did what everything else Spyro themed couldn't do. Gave us books, comics, and 30+episodes all doing new original things with Spyro! They talk about how Legend of Spyro was darker..... but did these people read 'Return of the Dragon King'/ 'Secret Agent Secrets' or that Nightmare scene with Spyro in Machine of Doom?
@maxkozak9702 Жыл бұрын
How could Skylanders ever be darker than the whole premise of TLOS? TLOS involved a genocidal war the whole thing with cinder [ which the Skylanders game shamelessly ripped off] threats to entire species the original dark master almost and technically succeeding in destroying the world entire realm subjugated both before A&B and in the time skip between the eternal knight and dawn of the dragon and who knows what else that I'm forgetting? Skylanders is closer to classic in tone and while there's dark stuff in everything [ the sorcerers in classic liberal league wanted to rip off baby Dragons wings to complete her immortality potion] I don't think Skylanders can stand up to TLOS on that front. I do agree with the rest of that though and I never hated the Skylanders fandom. I hope that fan film gets finished too because Skylanders Academy needed a fourth season and for better or for worse Skylanders did keep him alive and served as a breakout even though I wish that TLOS had done that instead. Skylanders was a spin off and it should have been treated like one instead of a replacement. That's why Spyro fans were so bitter and why some of them are still are. Although thank goodness we did not get the legend of spyro movie because that could have killed the franchise outright.
@YamiSpyroX Жыл бұрын
@@maxkozak9702 Most of the series was light-hearted silly but that particular book had an seriously dark scene that I think out-does LOS. There's an chapter in Machine of Doom 'The Stuff of Nightmares' were as an result of being struck by the sleep venom of some evil plants Spyro and his Skylander buddy's are trapped in nightmares were they're forced to experience their worst fears. Spyro actually sees Kaos strangling Master Eon with an Rusty Chain, frozen on the spot everything around him destroyed. The book also heavily applied within temple drawing that the Arkyeans were basically committing mass genocide with their own machines of doom. So yeah, pretty damned dark! I would've been okay with seeing that Spyro movie (Minus the soiled diaper.) but I feel it wouldn't had been worth losing Skylanders over! Spyro so deserved to see his parents much like how Cynder deserved her own arc after Season3 ghosted her! I would've liked an good 6 or 7 seasons of it. (I kept re-watching Academy. I'm glad it was made and lasted as long as it did.)
@maxkozak9702 Жыл бұрын
@@YamiSpyroX I'm not sure if the implied mass genocide in Skylanders that you described is any worse than what was implied to happen in TLOS, but nobody should be making comparisons about things like that anyway because it sounds extremely insensitive no matter which side you're on. As for the nightmares I can understand how that would be bad to someone who wasn't used to having them, but i bet LOS cinder frequently has nightmares like that all the time and would have had to sort therapy for them when she grows older. The whole script for that legend of Sparrow movie was awful and it was set up to fail. The people behind it had made the critically panned Aragon movie as well as the live action Garfield films with the CGI Garfield and they would also go on to make norm of the north an animated movie which I believe has 1% on Rotten Tomatoes. That's the staff as a whole but I'm glad it was never made and I don't understand why people with such a terrible reputation were tasked with making it in the first place. And this is coming from a legend spyro die hard. I am sort of glad we got the leaked script though because it stopped people pining for something which at least some suspected would have been a franchise killer if it had come out. You're right that the movie would not have been worth losing Skylanders over, but for me it would have been worth losing Skylanders over a LOS revival in literally any other form.Like it or not, on not our respective fandoms have immense rifts between them that could only be fully healed by placating the legend of spyro fandom for the first time in 15 years. Classic fans got reignited the crash cameos and all that merch, Skylanders pioneered a new genre and serve as Spyro's transmedia breakout as you said, but the LOS fandom has got nothing but a handful of references [ half of which can arguably be attributed to Enter the Dragonfly instead and tantalizing lore teasers in Crash on the Run which is a discontinued freemium mobile game that's still about Crash anyway. Skylanders did a lot for the franchise, and the classic fans got what they wanted but now it's my fandom's turn. I get it the toys to life thing was cool and very profitable in addition to helping keep Spyro IP alive in some form or another, but I wish it it all turned out differently and the legend series had survived. [ I'm sure the movie would have been cancelled anyway even in that timeline because of how awful it would have been.] The thing is, I'm afraid of Skylanders ever returning to consoles because I believe history has shown us it cannot coexist on consoles with mainline Spyro content. But what I really want is for Call of Duty to die because it's a bland generic FPS series which isn't worth the resource put into it because said resources are not improving the games enough to justify them and it has nothing to define it except it toxic multiplayer. As for Academy I'm in agreeance with you there, Skylanders or not it's still a spiral related show and from what I've heard we were so close to seeing Spyro's parents for once! His dragonfly parents in the Los games are adoptive and thus don't count for the purposes of this argument. From the amount of loose ends I've heard Skylanders Academy has I strongly suspect it wasn't meant to end when it did and that there was a fourth season planned. The fate of Skylanders Academy causes me to feel a kinship with the Skylanders fandom because it reminds me of what happened to the legends continuity as a whole. Something with vast potential that could have propelled the franchise to heights that not even the original games are reignited did tossed away because whoever made it didn't see its potential. It's sad and I hate that that happened!
@idontcheckmynotifications Жыл бұрын
@@maxkozak9702 the rest of your posts are pretty cool and respect for not just hating on skylanders but it’s way more than a spinoff. It’s really a separate series that outgrew spyro. The spyro fans who are still pissed about it “replacing” him need to realise that. It was only going to really feature him heavily in initial stages and they can be as upset as they want but blaming the series for it is being really hung up & projecting expectations. Given how the skylanders series is I’m glad the games didn’t pander and focus on him or any specific playable character (until the last game and the story is widely hated in that one) because it would feel like it was playing favorites even more than it already did with gimmicks and one of the beautiful things about the series is the character choice and how you can get immersed in your favorites.
@maxkozak9702 Жыл бұрын
@@idontcheckmynotifications but that's the thing, it was billed as a spin off. Spin offs are not supposed to replace their source franchise and I am sympathetic to the idea that it's a separate IP but mainline spiral shouldn't have gone on hiatus because of Skylanders. If anything Skylanders being a separate series REDUCED the validity of it temporarily replacing spyro. And I've heard that Spyro was a more prominent character in any Skylanders material which didn't involve toys to life, which implies that he was only shown to the side-lines for the toys to life genre to function. [ which is fair enough because the same thing would have happened to any character in the same position.]. It's less that Skylanders exists and more it's the reason why a million hypothetical Spyro games DON'T. Including the unrealized full potential of the legend of Spyro games. If I got solid proof that Skylanders could coexist with spyro on consoles then I would stop railing against Skylanders coming back, but until then i fear that event lest history repeat itself and Skylanders kills classic just like it killed the legend games. It's clear to both of us that Skylanders left rifts in the fandom that will never heal unless my section is fully placated. It's interesting to see that stance from the other side like yours.

This ended up being such a journey on a group of fans that wanted to see a Spyro movie happen that they said screw it and tried to do it themselves, kinda sad neither one of the Spyro fan film projects got off the ground, but none the less with the state of Spyro nowadays with Reignited doing well and with a new installment on the way and as Miharu mentioned the Mario Movie turned out as well as it did, that a Spyro movie could definitely be in the cards. I could really see Spyro having a much easier time getting a film adaptation than Crash Bandicoot cause there's enough going on with Spyro in terms as a character as well as his original PS1 outing could definitely be a great base for a film, I recall Canadian Guy Eh was going on about the possibility of a Spyro movie and actually made the most compelling elevator pitch given that actually sounded good, make Spyro this character that's forced to become the hero to save his people, not having a choice in the matter and him not actually being friends with Sparx at first but ends up becoming friends throughout the lonely journey of going up against the Gnorcs and eventually Gnasty Gnorc, even having a bit where they touch upon the fact Spyro can't fly. Either way I'm all for a Spyro movie, all I ask don't screw it up fan made or otherwise.

Project Frixion could have been the greatest thing that the spyro fandom as a whole ever produced. It would have shown activism the people wanted the legend series back enough to do something like that. At least we got convexity studios out of it but that's nothing compared to what the full project would have done. we NEEDED it. I would be willing to wait my whole life for a legend of spyro fan film simply because I don't believe a Spyro movie made by a Hollywood institution could ever be good. In some alternate timeline where project frixion released or at least got much further in production maybe I'd be playing a second legends trilogy right now but alas it's not to be. Activision just doesn't realise what a diamond mine the LOS setting is. I don't think I can say the same for legacy of ages because it seems like it never got past the idea phase and the the person behind it was most likely not truthful about the connections and history they claim to have [ at least I hope so, otherwise it's possible that all that forum had cost us something that could have saved the legend series]. I would have watched it though. I wish OmicronWanderer had explained her disappearance or at least come back to say why she disappeared as a heads up. I always hate it when content creators disappear with no explanation whatsoever especially when there's no forewarning at all. Perhaps Project Frixion's fate may have been different [ or at least more would have been done] if she had remained active.
