I just love the Gannet. Such a truly functional aircraft. 👏👏👏👏

I loved the gannets. I first saw them in the 1950s in Cornwall. Saw the last of them possibly in the 1980s again in Cornwall.

Loved this plane when I saw one at Flambards theme park in Cornwall many years ago. I believe it had been based at RNAS Culdrose, before being taken out of service. Took the grandchildren there but it was gone. I think it’s at Davidstow Airport now. One big problem was the wing tips tending to snap off if pulling too many g’s. You need to see one in the flesh to appreciate it fully. It’s a monster.

Remember seeing an all blue Gannet, minus engines, at the Hayes factory in 1965 being refereed to as "The Admirals Barge". Not sure why it was there since most mods and major repairs were carried out at White Waltham.

Possibly called "The Admirals Barge" because they were used as communications aircraft for delivery of items to the aircraft carriers and this could include carrying an admirals to the ship.

Like most Fairy aircraft, not the most elegant, but built to get the job done. Ask the Bismark...
