The Neuschwanstein Castle sits on a scenic hill in Germany and was designed and once home to one man known as the Fairy Tale King - King Ludwig II of Bavaria. Known to many as an artistic but extravagant, and sometimes mad King, what's most interesting about Ludwig II is his mysterious death that remains unsolved to this day! What really happened to the strange man who lived in the fairy tale castle?

Hi, I live in germany. Neu-Schwanstein is really nice and there are so many interesting places around. And not just in Bavaria, that has a lot of tourists und only displays one cultural side of germany. I live close to the UNESCO woldy heritage Mittelrheintal that has a lot of medivial castles, the Loreley and the Niederwald Monument. It was a great inspiration during romanicism, which means it's likely to have also inspired the artists you came up with the plans for Neu-Schwanstein. Also nobody should ever die without having tried a great variety of german baked goods. :D You have no idea what bread IS until you have eaten bread in a german-speaking country. Feel invited everybody. :)

I have been there in 2000 when i graduated High school, because my Mom and Dad were station in Germany when they were in the Army. That is were they met and feel in love with each other. So when they saved up their money they took me with them. I got to go inside the castle and vist all the places were my Mom and Dad have been to. Munich was the best and the castle was romantic and beautiful at the same time. I say to everybody that i meet" You have to go to Germany and see the Neuschwanstein castle".

I think the idea behind having so many rooms is to keep assassins guessing as to which room the king or queen was sleeping in.

You are gonna love this castle Mike ! I was there in the early 80's and it's so cool for so many reasons. We took the horse drawn Carriage to the top and walk through the woodland pathway back down to the town. You will have to look for the awesome wood carved bed, the water fall and so much more while you are in there. Good luck and let us know what you think when you finally make it there.

Wow, nice , a perfect 100 ! ... great Voice work , perfect timing , not too fast , great editing , beautiful photos . I had heard this story before but you did a really great job I think this is your best vid yet in terms of quality ..very , very professional and yet you still retain your own great inherent personality. If you're not already doing voice-overs for commercials , animations , and documentaries you should certainly think about it because you can there's certainly compete with some of the pros in the industry . I really enjoy these vids although I haven't seen all of them . I'm not sure if you did one on the Philadelphia Experiment yet or not ; but my father , who fought in World War II and grew up in South Philly said he remembers of that when it first happened and it was in the newspapers . Another one , if you have not done it yet is thoroughly researched and actually deserves a lot more time than the standard amount you normally use for your vids. A crime novelist ( I can't think of her name but as soon as I track down the info I'll mention it here ) She's very well off and she used her own money , $6 million dollars researching and promoting her theory about who the real Jack the Ripper was . I believe what her findings are : He was an artist , actually very well known in certain circles and he had a sister living with him . I would love to see a longer in-depth video about this because it actually needs to be made into a movie or miniseries but only if it could be done properly and not " Hollywoodized " .

The art themes of repentance and salvation inside the castle suggest that the fairy tale king might have had some dark stuff in his past that he was very sorry about, and it might have come back to haunt him in the form of an assassin.

You should have also mentioned that King Ludwig II was a devotee of Wagner and the courtyard of the castle was designed as a set, to allow for performances of Wagner's Ring Cycle: Das Rheingold, Die Walküre, Siegfried and Götterdämmerung.

If you visit Bavaria, this is a must-see place! Definitely one of my favorite places in the world! 🙂 An interesting fact: Many of the murals on the wall depict scenes from Richard Wagner’s operas. King Ludwig was a fan of Richard Wagner. Thank you for the information on the king’s suspicious death. I personally believe he was murdered. 😔 It’s a really sad story. But if it wasn’t for his eccentric ideas, we wouldn’t have such a beautiful castle today. By the way, when I visited many years ago, they still had not completed building the entire castle. Do you know if they did now?
