I also encountered the pizza sales from a guy on a motorcycle. Interesting he also got aggressive when I politely declined. I just rolled up my window, but I believe he wanted me to argue. My guess is he was planning on distracting me then robbing me. I didn’t engage him.

Also watch out for the gasoline scam where you're at an OXXO or other place that sells gas and are forced to pay an extra 100 pesos. You'll tell the person at the pump the amount of gasoline or price and they'll fill it up to 100 pesos. Then you'll say to them "no, dije que necesito un tanque lleno o dije solo quinientos" and they'll just continue to fill it up and apologize. When you go to pay, they'll say, "oh, you need to pay the extra 100 pesos. I stopped the machine at 100 and the machine price reset to 0 when you said you need more." They may also be aggressive and say that they'll get in trouble or that you're stealing. Therefore, you're scared into paying an extra 100 if you don't argue with them that you saw the machine and that it did not get reset to 0 but instead, continued past 100.

My mum always was way too kind to those guys in motorcycles with the pizzas. At least I can say that the ‘scam’ here is that they give you a really bad quality pizza which in the best case it is totally tasteless with almost no ingredients at all. They never hurt us or stole anything from us, and honestly I don’t believe that was their intention. The pizza was simply awful and we gave 100 pesos or whatever they asked for it. And this has been the case for at least over 20 years. Your theories sound totally plausible but it has never been the case for us.

Hi, thank you for the years you have provided us with your videos. I do have a question, has nothing to do with scamming! Wife and I are taking a trip to Mexico very soon. We are only visiting and not applying for residency at this time. We want to go for 1 month spending 1 week at a time in 4 different cities. So, QUESTION, all we need is our passports and hotel itineraries to substantiate our 4 week stay? Correct, or am I missing something here?? Thank you.
@TangerineTravels
@TangerineTravels Жыл бұрын
Mexico immigration went through a phase of being strict and not giving a lot of visitors the full 180 days. But now, it's back to normal, where almost everyone is getting 180 days. It's highly unlikely that you'll have to show your hotel bookings but in case they ask, that will be good to have. They'll probably ask how long you're going to stay and maybe where you're going, but any additional questions would be unusual.

When I'm in Mexico I hate it when you pull up to a stopsign or intersection and some dude with a towel or dirty rag sprays water on your windshield starts wiping it off and then says you owe him 200 pesos or something. All the while I'm saying no, stop, please I am ok.
@TangerineTravels

Yeah that's annoying and they're all over the place across Mexico. I've never heard of one of them wanting 200 pesos, maybe in tourist areas or something where they're really trying to scam people. Usually they just expect a few pesos and they also usually obey the finger wag saying no. But sometimes they don't

I'm from Mexico City and as usual had one of those guys today, though this was one of the times he didn't care and sprayed all over. I have to admit I got mad and in strong language told him I already said NO. Learn a few phrases in Swedish, and when someone you don't know approaches you with something sketchy, ask in broken Spanish if they speak Swedish, then say a few things in Swedish. 100% of the time, they won't know even one word let alone enough to scam you. It works in other countries as well, although not always at big tourist sites. I had a one of the endless stream of peddlers approach me at the Pyramids in Giza, and when I spoke to him in Swedish, he flipped right into that without skipping a beat.

The second story, I think the car mechanic is trying to be hero and building up his own bill/credibility w BS. Stealing stuff through an vent? Just back from Puerto Escondido: EuropCar at the airport tried to scam me twice. They told me the category of vehicle I had booked was not available but would give an upgrade, obviously if I paid a bit. I did not give up, did not pay and finally got a vehicle of right category. The next nasty moment was upon returning the car. As I had not accepted to buy their extra insurance either, they found some weird water marks on the back seat (I did not use the backseat) and asked me to pay 2500 pesos for the cleaning. Again, I did not agree and started filming the whole incident with my iPhone, ofcourse threatening them of a complaint. I did not have time to argue as I had a plane to catch and I signed the invoice with my credit card. Finally, they only ”stole” a 100 pesos extra. I still need to send a complaint to their HQ. Fortunately, I used to live in CDMX and can argue in Spanish but I am pretty sure those guys scam innocent tourists all the time. Be careful, check the car and take photos or make a video of every detail. Or, buy the insurance they are imposing but that is not fair. Btw Puerto Escondido and especially Huatulco are really fantastic.

I live in Guadalajara and I've seen the pizza one so many times, especially around Christmas and New Year's. They're usually from Domino's, Pizza Hut, Benedetti's, big pizza places and they are legitimate workers. They usually park at Mall parking lots, outside grocery stores, pharmacies, Oxxo, Gas stations, Walmart, wherever there's a continuous flow of people and they tell these stories that the got these pizzas that they couldn't deliver because they never found the address, the customer never opened, nobody was there or something like that, usually they sell the pizzas for less than the usual price and say they are selling them because they can't take them back or they'll be scolded by their bosses or that they just have them and can't do anything about them either way. I've seen many people purchase pizza from these guys and it's a good deal at the end of the day, they're not in bad shape or anything, I've never done it but I've seen some people buy those pizzas. The thing is that they're not bad pizzas, they're in good condition, not "pirated" nor are they scamming you, the thing is that, just like Jordan said, they're people who are stealing from the businesses, they get the pizzas from the employees and sell them on the street and take advantage of holidays when there are a lot of orders and it's difficult to keep track of what is being sent and they ploy to get extra pizzas, then, near the end of the shift, the delivery people go to these concurred places with their work bikes, tell these stories and try to sell these never-ordered pizzas. Also, I'm not saying there isn't people out there trying to get information out of you or trying to steal your wallets or belongings by posing as a delivery person, that's also a possibility to a different sort of scam but this is another case scenario that's also sort of common from time to time, FYI.

this is very common in some parts of Mexico... Instead of pizza it is usually cakes... The "cake seller" usually says that he got a big order but out of the blue it was canceled.. so he is trying to sell them at a lower price, etc. It seems to me that it is just a technique for people to buy the items out of pity/sympathy... of course then one sees the guy multiple times telling the same story...

I used to deliver pizzas when I was in college years ago, and quite often, when someone would order a pizza and then not be there to accept the delivery, I would go by the common area of a college dormitory building where people were watching TV, etc. and just announce that I had an extra pizza for sale. I never failed to quickly sell it. I used to think that we (the restaurant) should just make a few pizzas and go by the dorms and sell them. Something about seeing and smelling a hot pizza motivates people to buy it even if they weren't planning to order one. I wonder if what you experienced was just a technique for selling a few more pizzas on a slow day. However, that doesn't excuse being pushy or rude about it. PS - the place I worked was called "Captain Kirk's Pizza" and our motto was "We beam it to you free." :)

I used to live in an apartment complex, and there was a local pizza place that got the bright idea to just send someone to park outside the leasing office (with their permission) and set up a little booth selling some cheap pizzas at the time most people returned home from work. That guy got so much business, it was crazy. Who can resist the convenience of stopping your car just moments from home , dispending a few bucks and having a hot pizza ready to go. genius.

We do not use valet parking and if they don't allow us to park our own vehicle, we don't eat there. The restaurant or business doesn't want to take responsibility for anything that is taken, so if they don't allow me to park my own vehicle, then they lose the business. That is their problem. There is NO restaurant or business that is that important to me and many more to choose from. If they are going to use valet parking, then they should guarantee your vehicle is safe--it is their property and employees after all.

If a vehicle has any kind of contact with a motorcycle or a pedestrian, the vehicle is always at fault no matter the circumstances.
