Sup yall! After many World War video requests in the past, I have finally decided to react to one. "The Fallen of World War II" was the most recent request.
This is probably the easiest and quickest video I have ever recorded yet because of the very minimal editing I had to do: after your comments and feedback from my reaction to "Жить", I have taken to heart that I shouldn't be adding extra sound effects and camera angles to a serious video.
This video was very striking, shocking and devastating in many ways. I am glad to have reconnected with events in the past, and hoping for a brighter future...
PS: STAY TUNED FOR THE NEXT REACTION! ;)
I would like to thank each and everyone of my subscribers thus far, and I hope we grow together! :D

Some historics say that Soviet Union have lost 27 million others 45. There were 8 m soldiers, others were just civils. Every family in Russian and former Soviet countries has at least one relative who fought for peace then. That's horrible number...

Did the Germans die of cold in 1943? Has the climate defeated Germany? And why did the Germans not freeze in the winter of 1942 in the Soviet Union? Because they didn't lose? Did Napoleon also lose just because of the frost? These are all distortions of education. From Moscow to Berlin, Soviet troops won in spring, summer and autumn. Weather is one of the factors and not the most important. The main thing is people and character. Russians can be killed, but they cannot be defeated!

A few months ago, I once recommended a US Marine to watch an American documentary that I watched as a child. It was filmed during the Brezhnev era in the USSR, when many people who witnessed that war were still alive. I don’t know why everyone forgot this film, but I was prompted to recommend it because it’s in English. It is called "The Unknown War." Today I see that many history teachers from the United States run their channel here and say with embarrassment that they did not know in such detail the war in the USSR. Moreover when you watch National Geographic or Discovery Channel or read a school history textbook, you get the impression that the Russians did not take any part in the Second World War. But suddenly it turns out that the Russians defeated 83% of the Nazi army and the cost of this is 27 million Russian lives (This is an official figure, but real according to some sources- is 32 million). Of these, 8 million are military, and the rest are civilians.This fact is deliberately concealed by the Western media and historical channels, I think. Look, in 2020, the United States issued a commemorative coin dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany. The medal features three flags - the US flag, the UK flag and the French flag. The USSR flag is not there !!!!!!!!. That is, they want us to forget history, they want to keep us for idiots and to convince that the Russians did not take part in the Second World War ...Therefore, in Russia there is not a single family where their relative did not die in the war with Hitler. For some reason, in the West they are silent about this and young people do not know anything about it. But in Russia the history of the Second World War is taught as needed, in detail and thoroughly. France surrendered in 28 days. During the same time in Stalingrad, the Germans were only able to cross from one side of the street to the other side. This is how to defend the country and resist. The war in Europe and in the USSR was different. He considered Europeans civilized and observed the Geneva Military Convention (gentlemanly attitude towards prisoners and civilians). Moreover, soldiers from all over Europe fought under the banner of Hitler. For example, in Paris, cafes and restaurants worked until the end of the war, and at the same time in Belarus (one of the republics of the USSR), out of 9200 settlements destroyed and burned by the German occupiers and collaborators, over 5295 were destroyed along with all or part of the population during punitive operations. Including 628 - together with the population. 186 villages could not be revived, as they were destroyed with all the inhabitants, including mothers and babies, frail old people and invalids. In memory of the villages that were burned alive together with the living inhabitants, a memorial "Khatyn" was erected and named as the name of one of the burned villages. (look at wikipedia). The scariest film about this is "Come and See" (but first read or watch the abstract review of this film - you may not be able to watch it). Some of the commentators in Europe wrote that after the family viewing, no one spoke to each other for almost a day - everyone was gloomy, frowned and lost in thought. The fate of the front-line director is also unique. Hitler really considered the Slavs to be a dirty nation that allowed the mixing of races. Therefore, the Slavs were of no value to Germany. He considered the Europeans a race higher. That is why we have such different wars in Europe and in the USSR. It is also enough to see in what conditions British prisoners and Russian prisoners were kept. From the order on the treatment of Soviet prisoners of war of September 8, 1941. "Bolshevism is the mortal enemy of National Socialist Germany. For the first time, a German soldier faces an adversary trained not only in the military, but also in the political sense in the spirit of destructive Bolshevism. The fight against National Socialism is with him. in blood. He leads it with all the means at his disposal. Including propaganda, murder, sabotage. Therefore, the Bolshevik soldier loses all right to be treated like an honest soldier in accordance with the Geneva agreements. " This was the reality. Each soldier of the Wehrmacht during the seizure of European countries had a memo "10 commandments of a soldier of the Wehrmacht." It spoke of the need to comply with the international rules of warfare, and is loyal to the civilian population. But when the Wehrmacht invades the USSR, Hitler gives the order not to spare anyone. But until now, many are surprised how the barbarian civilization could triumph over the civilization of masters and the leader in technology.Nazism is rearing its head today. In the baltics and ukraine, SS veterans and Nazi henchmen are honored. Streets are named after them and monuments are erected to them, children in scout camps are taught Nazism (children shout Nazi chants and think like fascist judging by the video) - NBC released a film about a children's camp near Kiev a couple of years ago. New Hitler Jugend. This is not a joke - this is Ukrainian reality. For example, 04/28/2021 In the capital of Ukraine, Kiev, an annual Nazi march dedicated to the Nazi SS division "Galicia" was held. The Baltic countries hold the same annual marches.Or, on July 31, 2021, an annual gathering of veterans of the 20th SS Division, recognized as a criminal organization by the decision of the Nuremberg Tribunal, took place in Estonia. They laid flowers and lit candles at the Estonian SS Legion memorial. Processions of admirers of Hitler are held annually in the Baltic countries. The authorities are supportive of this.

Hitler lost because of the Russian frosts, and not because of the heroism of the Soviet people? We also have a hot summer in Russia, and there were four summers during the four years of the war. Denmark and Norway are also cold, but Norway was occupied by the Germans in two months, and Denmark was in one day.

no, winter was just one of many reasons. I think the best reason was that the soviet generals have used the size of their country as an advantage. wanting Germany to advance further and further. At certain checkpoints they had defence lines that went row after row. That leaded to the fact that Germany had to crush line by line with every line getting stronger. Till they were near moscow where the main troops from the soviet were. They couldnt crush it as Germany used too much ressources up to this point.

The Soviets knew their homeland well and knew exactly where to stall the German advance and where to bait them in. Which is what happened at Moscow, where panzer and Wehrmacht units outran their supply lines, exposed to a counter attack and that’s when the blow was struck, driving them back and causing a panic along the Front.

The German army losing in the east was for a multitude of reasons, mainly logistical they had a major oil shortage like a year on into the invasion, along with being stretched out too thin between a front spanning from essentially Finland all the way to the caucus mountains, also right before winter the mud season or "Rasputitsa" which slowed the Germans down to a Napoleonic era pace mainly because the USSR was still developing so they had a lot of dirt roads that didn't do so well with tanks and trucks. You pair that with the almost never ending people that lived in the USSR at the time, (even German soldiers felt helpless as they just kept running into a never ending wall of Russians fighting for their literal existence) winter definitely hurt but it was just the cherry on top of a long laundry list of issues. GREAT REACTION by the way!!!

What your history teacher told you was not correct. It was not that the Germans themselves were not used to the climate. Russia has the reputation of beeing very cold .. but the areas that the germans and soviets were fighting in, actually have the same climate like germany, in some areas a bit more warm (southern) and in some areas a bit more cold (northern) but its not siberia so the climate is very similar to germany. The reason was that the plan was to finish the invasion in soviet union before the winter comes, but it didnt, so the german soldiers still had their uniforms for summer. And that obviously was a huge problem when you are a soldier and have to fight in the cold winter with summer uniform. But even that was only the first winter, which caused the germans to be pushed back a bit, It was not the reason why the invasion failed. The war continued for years ... and then the reason at the end why the german fronts collapsed was because the Germans were attacked from all sides (also the soviet soldiers killed whole towns of german civilians) and the germans were outnumbered by 3 - 5 times higher numbers of soldiers coming from all sides mainly Soviets, Americans, British which all used the last years to put as many men into military as possible and produce tanks, aircraft and so on... even then while beeing outnumbered so heavy they keept holding them back very long, but at the end the german army and war industry was getting down, while the other countries were able to increase theirs ( and german cities were heavily bombed, you can really say everything was destroyed ) so it was a question of time for germany to lose the war, once that stituation appeared. They tried everything, even putting a lot of old men and young boys to defend Germany, especially inside germany at the cities, it was the whole society, old men, soldiers, boys, young women, trying to hold back the soviets, americans and british but the Invasion was too big to hold it back. But the idea of the strongest army in the world ( at that time ) beeing defeated because of winter is ridiculous ...

5:37 In USSR it has been a whole lost generation, when like whole class graduate has fallen in war. But i'm talking not only about millitary operations - It has been whole villages and cities with civilians extinguished by germans. We have so much movies about this, the fate of the young boys falling in battle, and the fate of the young girls doomed to keep going alone as almost whole male generation is wiped out. If you willing to watch something about - watch the old USSR movie "The Dawns Here Are Quiet" of 1972. It tells the story of women in war. It pretty light and even humorous, no graphics but really good one.

I don't know if there is a great meaning in English, but in Russian it died when lying in bed from illness or old age. And when in the war it is called killed. In Russia, in every family there are those who were killed either in battle or civilians from bombs. And the Germans did not come alone. Grandmothers and relatives lived in the occupation. Slovaks, Hungarians, Romanians, Italians, Poles (Kashubians) and the French came to us with the Germans (there were more French in the German Wehrmacht than in the De Gaulle Resistance). And we also remember how the Swedes sold iron to the Germans for tanks, ships and submarines. And we remember perfectly well how the United States traded with the Germans until 1943... sold weapons and goods to both the Germans and the USSR and enriched themselves at the expense of the war, starting to fight against the Germans only since 1944.

@Inland Empire Russians remember everything. Do not remember in Western countries what the Curzon Line is and that Poland took advantage of the Civil war in Russia and seized Russian lands illegally, Poland signed a peace treaty with the Bolsheviks (Communists), and the great powers (Britain and France) did not recognize the annexation of Russian lands by Poland. Lol. Poland and Finland were not released from Russia. They are separatists like the Scots in Britain. In 1938, Poland, together with Germany, invaded Czechoslovakia, seized and occupied part of it. And in 1939, Germany and the puppet Slovakia invaded Poland and World War 2 began. lol. The Russians came 3 weeks later when the Germans defeated and surrounded the Polish army. Russians reached the Curzon line and took their own back, and the President of Poland and the generals issued a decree not to resist the Russian troops. The Polish army of 70,000 under the protection of the Russians escaped from the Germans (30 thousand to Romania and 40 thousand to Hungary). lol. Why didn't Poland declare war on the USSR?! Why didn't the Poles fight the Russians? On June 23, 1941, the Polish government in London agreed that Poles would be part of the Red Army(USSR) to fight against the Germans. LOL!

@Inland Empire Because of Hitler's invasion of the USSR, the Polish government in London (by order of Britain) began to cooperate with the USSR and had no claims for 1939 and that Poland had lost the lands inhabited by Belarusians and Ukrainians. And why didn't Poland declare war on the USSR in 1939? So the Polish army and the Polish government agreed to the entry of Soviet troops, which helped them escape to Britain and other countries? What kind of fairy tales that the USSR started WW2? Churchill said that Poland is the "hyena of Europe." Poland and Germany are to blame for the attack on Czechoslovakia in 1938, and Britain, France and Italy in Munich supported this. Poland was going to be an ally of Germany like Finland, Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary, but Germany did not need Poles.
@andreasfaust1161

@Inland Empire I don't feel sorry for the Poles. Why should I feel sorry for them? It's their own fault. My ancestors fought against the Bolsheviks (Communists) and everything went well in 1918-1919, but Poland was inactive...The Russians, who did not have time to return from the front against the Germans that was in Poland, fought against the Bolsheviks (Communists) together with the Poles and won together near Warsaw in 1920. But Poland concluded a peace treaty with the Bolsheviks (Communists) and the Russians who wanted to fight the Bolsheviks (Communists) were given out to death, thereby helping the USSR to get back on its feet, get stronger and in the end the Poles were still lucky. It was communist, but still Poland. lol. And in fact, this state should not exist after all their heinous actions. Only Britain and the USA are worse than Poland.

@andreasfaust1161 2 жыл бұрын
@Inland Empire The Polish government had a mutual assistance agreement with the main great countries in the world (Britain and France). When Germany attacked and captured 60% of Poland in three weeks, why did the British and French do nothing? Why didn't they save Poland? Why did the Polish army escape thanks to the introduction of Soviet troops? Why 70 thousand Polish soldiers survived thanks to the invasion of the USSR and under the cover of the Red Army, the Poles escaped from Poland and then continued to fight against the Germans. Thanks to whom? Britain and France who threw Poland to the mercy of Germany so that Hitler would move further east away from Western Europe?! Why did the USA sell weapons, cars and food to Germany and the USSR at the same time until 1943 inclusive? To make money in the war?!

The Phillipines were invaded by Japan for their oil resources and to the push the US out of the region. It was part of Shojo's "Southern Resources" plan that came along quickly after Pearl Harbor. The US Army was pushed out of the Phillipines with Gen. Douglas MacArthur declaring "I will return", which he did. Still, some US soldiers and Filipino soldiers didn't make it in time and were captured. The Japanese army treated people that surrendered as less than human, so many of those soldiers died by just a soldier beheading them. Most of the officers were beheaded immediately. Out of 80,000 troops captures, only 54,000 survived the trip and many of those died in the prison yard. A large majority of the dead were Filipino, potentially up to 18,000. During this movement, now called the Bataan Death March, anyone that asked for water was killed instantly. They force marched them nearly 50 miles and those that fell from fatigue were run over with trucks. They also liked to drink water in front of prisoners, make sure they wore no shirt or hat in the sweltering heat, and didn't treat anyone for malaria or dysentery. They barely let them even get in the shade. That's just one of many horrible things the Japanese did during World War II.. and that list is long.

In the Philippines there's a statue of General Douglas MacArthur. He was stationed in the Philippines Islands. Shortly after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the Japanese surrounded the Philippines. Douglas MacArthur had to flee abandon his soldiers. So the remaining American and Filipino soldiers were taken captive. About 60,000 men were in the Bataan Death March. So both American and Filipino soldiers died together in this death march.

Looking at the comments 10 days after you (IRA) viewed the video, all most all the commenters are missing the point. World II was total war for most countries, no one factor won or lost for any nation or side and it is foolish and pointless to argue about such things. The point of video was that we (most people in the so-called "first world") have essentially been at peace for close to 80 years. One the underlying reasons that the "Cold War" didn't get "Hot" was that leaders on all sides, both civilian and military, had memories of how horrible and terrible that war was. That institutional memory is now rapidly dying out. We have now essentially lost all of that first-hand memory, and we are getting a lot of sabre-rattling by foolish leaders. I think a good point can be made that none of today's leaders realizes how fast a small border war - say Russia vs Ukraine, could turn into a very short, very hot, nuclear total war. I live in Montana, USA; within 200 miles of my home are I00 Armed Minuteman III ICBMs in scattered missile-silos(hardened protective structures buried in the ground), each of which can hit targets 8,000 miles (13,000km more-or-less) away with up to 3 thermonuclear weapons (H-bombs, if you know the term) each of which is equivalent to about 330 thousand tons of TNT (about 20x the explosive yield of either of the two nukes used on Japan). These missile warheads are able to hit within 50 m of a target. All it takes to launch those missiles is a phone call. I am certain similar structures are found in Russia and China. If a hot-war involving NATO and Russia starts (on the ground in Ukraine, or elsewhere) what future historians (if there are any) might call World War III, will likely remove "civilization" from mankind's list of achievements - a prolonged nuclear winter (resulting from a prolonged nuclear war, say one that lasted 2 days) - would like give us at least 24 months of world-wide cold weather (high temperatures to, say about 0 deg C, 32 deg F, and not enough light for photosynthesis... = equal no food for anything. Well, I wouldn't give betting odds on anything except, at best, marginal survival for humanity. We had really better start trying somehow to drum some sense into all politicians. NO total war will be survivable by our civilization, and it is likely to render the future of humanity moot. With those cheery thoughts. Happy trails to you all...

The reason they were not prepared for winter in 1941 was because the USSR was supposed to have surrendered no later than the end of November. The German plan for the invasion of the Soviet Union was entirely based upon the Soviet system collapsing within 3 or 4 months, and by the time it failed to achieve it objective in October/November, it was too late for the German supply system to get winter gear to the troops. But it was NOT the weather that allowed the USSR to stop the Germans, it was Soviets themselves who stopped the Germans, the weather only helped out a little...mostly the "Rasputitsa" (season of mud) in October of 1941. 🖖✌

To the Germans it looked like unorganized human waves attack, but the Soviets knew they had the numbers so they would find vulnerable gaps im the German lines, and once found they would try to push as many of their forces through it to exploit the weakness. Forcing a retreat or forming a salient that threatens other army groups. Human waves are a myth, the Germans couldn’t comprehend that Ivan was more sophisticated and was fighting through brute force and concentrated breakthrough methods.

It also didn't help that many smaller villages were burned down by Russian forces, mimicking tactics from Napoleon. Effectively eliminating all access to supplies in conquered areas. Add to that, Germany was forced into weird Seiges and attrition battles constantly.. neither of them they could afford because of their horrific oil shortage.

Stop looking through patriotic glasses, it's not so black and white. The western allies would have had no chance to gain a foothold in central Europe until the USSR turned the tide and started pushing back. And yet the soviet advance would eventually have been stopped if the Allies hadn't opened fronts in Africa, Italy and France, not to mention the monumental strategic bombing effort. The manpower needed to fight there wasn't available to fight the Soviet advance...and we're talking millions of additional soldiers and material. The disparate numbers of casualties were partly due to the allies "joining in" later, sure. But it was also due to the fact that their strategy didn't make use of human wave attacks. Soviet high command knew of their massive manpower advantage...and used it to make up for their technological and strategic inferiority. Also don't forget, please, that the US especially, was also fighting a whole OTHER war against the Japanese in the Pacific.

It’s important to remember that part of the reason the military deaths can seem one sided at times is because certain countries just had better medical treatment, so injured people were less likely to die. And for Japan specifically, the culture of the time placed a lot of honor in dying for their Emperor, so almost of their soldiers would rather die than have to retreat or surrender, and would often rather kill themselves than be captured. So since this video only looks at deaths and not injuries, certain parts can seem more one sided than they actually were.

If Hitler took out Russia first, or simply left it be, he would have won, even simply waking Hitler up from his nap to release the panzer divisions on Normandy would have altered the war completely. It's just that the Nazis hoped to crush the USSR in a month - but they faced unprecedented resistance and losses. And in the end they lost. Watch the film "Brest Fortress" for a start:> at about the very border only. And watch the "Sabaton - Panzerkampf" song. We have lost 20 million people. This is every 9th. But we сaptured Berlin and crushed the Nazy. Both of my grandfathers fought with them. And I also live in the city of Riga, in the center of which there is the burnt church - where the Nazis shot hundreds of Jews and communists and those who for some reason didnot like for them, as well as a wood 2 km away from me - where there is a hollow where the Nazis have already shot thousands of people, and 20 km from me - the Salaspils, where there was a concentration camp, there they pumped blood from children - for their soldiers. the estimates range from 60m-120m. So Id say its probably somewhere in the middle. I think it was General Zharkov who said "the Soviet military will never be able to count the dead" or something like that.

70 million fallen - and then imagine all who were maimed or inflicted with severe PTSD... As a boy I remember a man who had been at the convoys, he often dressed up in trenchcoat, fedora hat and sunglasses, then he went looking for Soviet spies in the village streets. He was nicknamed "KGB". He knew that my father had been conscripted in the militia, he once approached him and told him with a hushed and sinister voice: There was a Russian boat at the harbor and he had seen a guy disembarking it...

Yes if a WW3 scenario happened it would be considered all hands on deck and the chances of the military draft being reinstated and put back in place are very high. Now I can only imagine in the modern age and with this generation how a draft would go down with the general public I'm sure that it would be very controversial.

The Situation of Operation Barbarossa (Invasion of Russia) was a bit more complex than "they didnt knew it was cold in russia" - ofc they were very aware of the russian winter. The events of the eastern front in ww2 were much more complex than what happend in the west, just because there were so many fronts and army groups operating at the same time. One big factor was Italys attack on Greece, that delayed the german assault for 3 months, for example (a critical delay, when u want to avoid the winter). Another1 was the invasion of Siberia and and and... I think many ppl dont understand how large the eastern front was, compared to the west and how many countries were involved. The same applies to japanese tactics in the pacific theater. Its so ez to say that they just made bad decisions with todays knowledge.

This thing was supposed to begin on May 15th. But Hitler had to deal with that Italian problem first. That's why it got delayed until June 22nd

People tend to forget what's known as the little ice age, between 1250 and 1850, winters were much colder and intense in the northern hemisphere. Napoleon had it against him, Hitler had not. And while the 40's was perhaps the coldest decade of the 20th century, it wasn't what turned the war around. Hitler was expecting more resistance from the allies in the west than from the Soviets in the east. He focused his resources and manpower on an invasion from the west and neglected the eastern front. The 6th army was his biggest and most experienced after all. Hitler didn't underestimate the climate, he underestimated the Soviets. There's no comparison between the two dictators other than that they were megalomaniacs and lost to the Russians.

German command really believed that "kick down the door and the whole rotten structure will collapse" idea and it came to bite them back. Granted, the Soviet Union wouldn't be able to put effective resistance without the Lend Lease it got from the US, and the allies in the west wouldn't be able to perform a successful invasion without Soviet Union forcing the Germans to commit so many people to the East, which resulted in Germany running out of resources and manpower before being able to capture the fertile fields of Ukraine and the oilfields in the Caucasus- Romania alone wasn't able to produce enough oil to keep the Nazi warmachine fueled.
@GrubHuncher
@GrubHuncher Жыл бұрын
You have been misinformed. The Germans put every possible resource into invading the east and were not very frightened of western retaliation. The west had nothing left to even invade them with at that point. They invaded Russia with 3.5 million men which was the largest invasion force of all time. The Russians fought harder than expected, and the predicted collapse of the Soviet government never actually happened. Their invasion actually seemed to have the opposite effect, it strengthened the Soviet regime. The Germans failed to secure any of their major objectives, mostly due to a sense of urgency about their oil situation which led to them rushing towards all of their strategic objectives but not actually taking any of them. If anything, past 1941 the western front was considered to be the sideshow, even after D-Day. The “real fight” was always in the east, where a massive and seemingly unstoppable horde of enraged Russians was beating them down with extreme prejudice.

I disagree with the jokes on things like WW2. If you don't find them funny it's ok, you don't "HAVE" to laugh about them. But it doesn't mean that if somebody else finds them funny it's a nazi and hates other people or groups. Jokes are jokes, and they don't kill anyone. Usually, with jokes about Hitler and the Jews (for example) you don't laugh at Jews being killed, you laugh at Hitler's stupidity. And I can guarantee you that finding some of those jokes funny doesn't mean that somebody has not the sensibility to understand the disgusting pile of sh*t that was WW2.

Yeah you are right it is a great visualization of time and I watch out to reactors to realize the time that is ticking at the end of the video. The speaker - therefore Neil Halloran - points out, that now is the time for discissions to make which would ensure peace. The zoomed in time is Novembre, 8th 2016 around 09:07 am - that was the day when the US could have made such a discission. On that specific day USA elected Trump - not that wise to prevent wars I would think, but I am only a german guy. I think we were lucky that there were only diplomacy issues with that us president and no war.
