NRL players don't get paid enough to sign a contract NOV 1 then pick up their house/families and move to another club/city or state before the pre season starts or even if they join the "new club" around jan/feb. If they were on NBA money it'll be easier to get traded and or sign and move to a new club within weeks.

Loved the chat, would of loved if they talked about the 7 tackle set rule, doesn’t reward attacking kicks you, miss judge by a 1m and get punished, I reckon inside attacking 20m, if ball goes dead should be normal set from 20m line, get some attacking kicks going

This is one of the best pieces of NRL content this year. Well done gents. Agree with a lot of what was brought up. Completely agree with Guru regarding field goals. Nothing worse than watching 2 teams take numerous shots and continue to miss going back and forth. Feels like You’ve stopped watching Rugby league and start watching another sport that only involves a few players. Either have golden try or leave it as a draw for regular season games. Definitely need the NRL to release the footage for content creators to grow the game for them. Absolutely ridiculous this hasn’t been worked out yet. And as someone that’s lived in Canberra for numerous years. The players farking hate the weather. This isn’t news to anyone that lives there. As we all hated it too. Very hard to get marquee signings. Tough to want to train when it feels like -4 at 3pm in the afternoon. during winter.

In a golden try situation, i feel like that could end up with games being drawn more often. In touch football there is a drop off system so you remove a player from the field after x amount of time. Maybe something like that could work. It brings in strategy of who comes off and opens the spaces on the field

The Kikau photo and Cheese getting on a podcast saying he wants to win a premiership in a Roosters jersey despite having 12 months in Melbourne highlight why the system needs an overhaul. Why couldn’t the deadline be moved to August the year of the final contract? If you want to move you will be able to make the family side of things work.

Nah, they risk of injury is too big. Just look how many players are injured and having to sit a year out or longer (Thomas Fleger, Corey Harawira-Naera, Karl Oloapu etc). The player association would never agree to it.

Long live the Guru! His comments regarding the over-use of technology at 9:17 are spot-on. He is NOT alone in that respect. Far from it! What's wrong with a bit of human error? After, human error is behind every knock-on, forward pass, missed conversion, bombed try, missed defensive assignment, incomplete set and a great many other things which make the theater of league what it is. The human element is, in fact, the whole point of the game. Besides, the Football Gods, in their infinite wisdom, tend to even things out in the end, anyway. (And I say that as an NQL tragic who can remember more than one post-season howler!)

We talk about the window being small for players to move but the clubs would have more money to pay them. Take Wighton last year. Raiders lost him and had all the cap room but by round 10 or whatever there was nobody to buy. Had to look for releases or unnecessary movements. 4-5 clubs hunting a position kills the injury debate. Knights, parra and dragons before cook were all discussed for changing 9’s. Roosters and cowboys ended up jumping in. It actually benefits everyone having a level field and creates more buzz and content for fans. Clubs plan for periods on the same field and can rebuild quicker. Still can do bad deals but hey at least it creates an auction for positions.

Guru missed the mark on abolishing the field goal. The game is built around scoring points not just tries. The 86’ grand final there were no tries scored, should the game have gone until someone did score? Like it was said earlier in the poddy, it’s a part of the game. Also playing the ball with your foot was drummed into us from juniors since day dot, the rules do say it must be heeled backwards. I don’t know I liked/tolerated the last 9 episodes of the round table but this one has got me offside a little bit.

Sure bro, penalty shoot outs are still the fundamental skill of kicking the ball past the keeper to get it in the net. There aren’t another several factors that get over analysed that play a role like offsides, touching the kicker, markers being square, blockers etc. all good to disagree with me bro, plenty love golden point and the field goal. But the point I think is a very fair one, you just disagree with it, which is completely fine.

Howlers created most weeks because of technology though mate, ref errors I can cop due to human error. Thats part of human nature and sport. The howlers we get today are mostly from the bunker where we can’t fathom how they’ve come up with the decision. James suggestion of 1 bunker person is appealing to me though, would create consistency at least.

Bro I’ve literally had conversations with guys who will be in first grade in the next few years who have said this to me haha I’m not just making it up, it’s beyond fucking ridiculous but it’s literally come out of these guys mouths. There are guys that have gone down there and that’s unreal, but they’re the smart ones who have made that decision. They’re also guys that all had their paths blocked to first grade at their current clubs, context matters again. In the context of that conversation, we were talking about a Draft where anyone could be forced to go there. If you think I’ve gone on one of the biggest podcasts in the country and just made that up, respectfully you’re an idiot. It’s not a coincidence that the Raiders are the club that has brought over the most English players, they’re well aware that plenty of guys simply don’t want to go to Canberra. Been at functions where the Raiders literally talk about this openly, it’s not a secret.
