Great breakdown! Her hallmark is indeed for her books to be character centric. She makes her people go through some serious stuff, and really drills into the consequences of her plot. It's why she's so beloved - the amount of magic and worldbuilding you see in this series is standard for her, with the exception of Rain Wilds only because the setting is so vastly different, she couldn't not spend a little more time there, hence 4 books :) When do you plan to continue on with ROTE?

@@libraryoflores Awesome! I guess you'll continue on with Liveship Traders? If so, prepare for a setting/character difference that doesn't seem to make much sense . . . until Rain Wilds. Some folks even just skip it, read Tawny Man then come back to it before Rain Wilds.

I was planning on liveship traders. All I know is that it's about talking boats lol. But I'm loving her riding so just trusting that she'll make it good

@@libraryoflores Oh, she definitely made them good. I was skeptical also, but it's amazing what she was able to do with such a weird concept. I generally never seem to enjoy nautical-based novels very much and I still loved that series somehow.

I love it when we get a single POV story, I usually get really attached to a single character and breaking away from them can interrupt my enjoyment, and her character work here is great. Whilst I can appreciate her writing style, despite the glacial pacing, I loath the story she chose to tell here, especially around the romantic subplot. If my MC is going to go through hell consistently, I need it all to be worth it on a personal level at the end, and I don't really find that to be the case here. Honestly find his whole loyalty to the king and country, and the extent to which he is willing to go and sacrifice to be immensely unbelievable. When I step back and look at his life in the keep, I just see how these father figures consistently used and abused him, warped his perception of the world, and his position in it. I feel like this should have been a story where he comes to a sudden realization that he cares for none of it, for none of it cares for him, and he runs away with Molly...

I mean I agree with you that he should have gotten up and left se eral times. I think that the character she paints with Fitz makes it believable. But I agree with you that would have been the right choice. But Fitz makes so many poor choices. Ultimately he is uneducated and brainwashed to an extent by the society he lives in. The romantic subplot feels reminiscent of one I would have had at that age. But I also completely respect your opinion. Not every book is for everyone
