Hey Lavader, this is actually an amazing video. I do think you missed some really big things though. Well, more than that, the actual foundation of this video is wrong in my opinion, I'd love to talk about it and figure out if I'm wrong instead, maybe we can both learn. It's about there not being actual fascism anymore, or it not having political footing. This is where I disagree intensely, but I'd make the point it is the self-proclaimed 'left' or 'liberals' that are in this category this time around. I have reasons and breakdowns as to why. I'd love the change to discuss this anyhow, with anyone.

George Orwell wrote that the term "Fascist" had already been so overused as a political epithet even by the end of the 1940s that it had lost any real presumptive connection to the actual ideology.

That's because the idea of Fascism being the enemy of Communism came out of WWII. Everyone forgets that the Soviets entered the war on the side of Germany. Communism and Fascism were seen as friends and allies. Then Hitler betrayed Stalin. From there on out, the idea that Fascism was the sworn enemy of Communism was promoted at all levels. To the point where anything anti-Communist was assumed to be Fascist. With the extent of how horrible Hitler's actions proved to be, Fascism became the perfect boogyman.

I can answer the title's question way quicker. Labelling someone a facist does worse than dehumanize. It labels the other as anti-human. When you label the other person as anti-human, it renders all of their opinions evil. If someone is completely evil and everything they can possibly say is evil, you win every argument by default, if said argument is ethical.

@ChiceJigle I agree that both ideologies are wrong and evil, but labeling them as the same shows they're just using it as a pejorative against those they hate. For one, Fascism isn't inherently anti-semitic or racist. In fact, in the 1920s and early to mid 1930s, there were many Jewish Fascists in Italy who swore allegiance to Mussolini. It only gained anti-semitic and other racist features when it became politically convenient to maintain a good relationship with Germany. There are similarities between the two, but there are also many similarities with those and Soviet style socialism. Particularly on the economic front. Many Socialists in the United States and Europe proper admired Hitler until they discovered his more seedy side and it became more of a liability to openly support him. Socialism, Fascism and Nazism are like colors. One is red, one is black and one is brown. They're different colors, but they're still colors. I think being able to understand each one individually is important instead of just using them as a pejorative.

Fascism is socialism with an iron fist. Giovanni Gentile, the founder of fascism, was a socialist. His philosophical basis for fascism was rooted in his understanding of ontology and epistemology, in which he found vindication for the rejection of individualism, and acceptance of collectivism, with the state as the ultimate location of authority and loyalty outside of which individuality had no meaning (and which in turn helped justify the totalitarian dimension of fascism). Ultimately, Gentile foresaw a social order wherein opposites of all kinds weren't to be considered as existing independently from each other; that “publicness” and “privateness” as broad interpretations were currently false as imposed by all former kinds of government, including capitalism and communism; and that only the reciprocal totalitarian state of corporatism, a fascist state, could defeat these problems which are made from reifying as an external reality that which is in fact, to Gentile, only a reality in thinking. Whereas it was common in the philosophy of the time to see the conditional subject as abstract and the object as concrete, Gentile postulated (after Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel) the opposite, that the subject is concrete and the object a mere abstraction (or rather, that what was conventionally dubbed "subject" is in fact only conditional object, and that the true subject is the act of being or essence of the object). Gentile went so far as to declare “Fascism is a form of socialism, in fact, it is its most viable form.” One of the most common reflections on this is that fascism is itself socialism based on national identity. Benito Mussolini, the leader of Italian fascism, was a member of the Italian Socialist Party as he was a publisher of Socialist Newspapers and was a life-long socialist and a student of Marx, but after he was kicked out of the Party since he believed World War One could result in the creation of Socialist uprisings across Europe. But Mussolini was so familiar with Marxist literature that in his own writings he would not only quote from well-known Marxist works but also from the relatively obscure works. During this period Mussolini considered himself an "authoritarian communist" and a Marxist and he described Karl Marx as "the greatest of all theorists of socialism." He made union membership mandatory. Under this labour policy, Fascist Italy enacted laws to make union membership compulsory for all workers. He also spent government money like a leftist. Mussolini’s spending on the public sector, schools and infrastructure was considered extravagant. Mussolini "instituted a programme of public works hitherto unrivaled in modern Europe. Bridges, canals and roads were built, hospitals and schools, railway stations and orphanages; swamps were drained and land reclaimed, forests were planted and universities were endowed". As for the scope and spending on social welfare programs, Italian fascism "compared favorably with the more advanced European nations and in some respect was more progressive". He built a large and expansive welfare state. By 1925, the Fascist government had "embarked upon an elaborate program" that included food supplementary assistance, infant care, maternity assistance, general healthcare, wage supplements, paid vacations, unemployment benefits, illness insurance, occupational disease insurance, general family assistance, public housing and old age and disability insurance. Most of the economy owned by the state. By 1939, Fascist Italy attained the highest rate of state ownership of an economy in the world other than the Soviet Union. When New York city politician Grover Aloysius Whalen asked Mussolini about the meaning behind Italian fascism in 1939, the reply was: "It is like your New Deal!" During the 1919 elections, the Fascists had attempted to court the socialist-left while publicly dubbing himself the “Lenin of Italy”, attempting to “out-socialist the socialists”. Mussolini was clearly a leftist, and fascism is just another variety of socialism with a nationalist bent.

Neither woke, lgbt nor maga is an enemy to be fought. The moment you guys realize, that there isn't some great conspiracy. You may find it in your heart to reconcile and actually work out compromises with each other instead of ignoring, yelling at or framing each other as deluded. The right wing wants to control the border. So do that. Both parts want a great economy, so work out compromises on that instead of standing on flimsy ideological principles like trickle down economics etc. Europe has prevented fascism and far right movements from getting roots. By working out compromises on the very real issues that have been pointed out by the far right. Such as islam being mostly incompatible with western culture and therefore immigration from islamic states should be limited. Not shut off completely mind you. We don't want to put people in literal camps or throw them out from airplanes like MAGA is suggesting. We dont label them as terrorists, but we recognize that they don't fit in for the most part and therefore arent worth the trouble to intergrate. Thats what America is lacking. A bit of a correction: MaCarthy was responsible for holding inquires regarding communist infiltration in the senate and armed forces specifically. The House Un-American Activities Committee, the other half of this equation, was something he was uninvolved in on account of him being a Senator, and thus being subject to separation of powers and having zero authority to do anything with the House of Representatives. The fact that we call it MaCarthyism and blame so much of it on him when the biggest invasions of private life came at the hands of completely different people is a testament to the exceptional levels of propaganda people have been subjected to.

As a teenager growing up in the UK I watched the popular TV show, The Young Ones, a comedy about four students living in a shared house. One of them was Rick, a selfish and pompous radical. The humour of his character is he is constantly (and hilariously) revealed as a petty-minded hypocrite, often by his own words and action, and whenever he is found out, he ALWAYS resorts to calling someone a fascist. It was fall-off-your-chair funny, to the extent the character of Rick entered the public's consciousness as a found-out stereotype of a young, left-wing idiot, so much I honestly thought the insult 'fascist' would be gone forever. However, after the emergence of Trump as political force it came back into popular use. It was so patently silly; I couldn't believe they were actually serious. My belief is labelling their opponents and 'othering' them is a characteristic of the left. If it wasn't 'fascist' (or Nazi) it would be some other epithet. The word (or ideological slur) itself isn't important - the purpose is to shame people into either supporting or, at least, not resisting their political movement. Progressives always claim their motivations are to help and uplift others, but you only need to look at the history of the left to see they are motivated by wealth-envy and, at-heart, a mean-spirited prejudice. The left ALWAYS pick a target group and direct their hate at it. Initially, it was the bourgeoise. Then for the longest time it was the comfortable, managerial middle-class. But when they switched their ideology from an economical perspective to an identitarian one, they directed their hate (because that's what it is) towards the white working-class, which is where we are now. Leftism as a political movement is not only the most destructive and hateful force in the history of man, it is also the most fundamentally dishonest and gaslighting movement in history of mankind. And if you don't agree with me, you're a fascist! (lol jk ;D)

It's left no choice but to choose the Right, and in classic Leftist nature, they dismiss all Right-wingers as racist, homophobic monsters. It's not even a political debate, it's a moral debate to them. "Agree with me or else your worse than human" outlook. I don't remember where I heard it from but "Fascism is the word substituted for "evil" by people who think they are above describing things as evil". As a shorter answer: It's a matter of projection and discrediting political opposition. Most Leftists will not admit it, but Fascism and Nazism are both socialist ideologies related intrinsically to their sense of populist, collectivist mentality. When a Leftist calls you a fascist or Nazi, they are doing so in an attempt to distance their actions - which can be comparable or similar to that of dictatorship thuggery and intimidation as used by the real fascists and Nazis - from that of the people that, under normal circumstances, they would likely have voted for. Further, as another commenter pointed out, it simultaneously labels and discredits any reputable argument against what they're doing as "anti-human"; how can one argue against being labeled as anti-human for not agreeing with a popularly-believed concept/pov?
@SeasideDetective2
@SeasideDetective2 6 ай бұрын
But haven't right-wingers also been heading toward a populist, collectivist mentality? They like to portray themselves as working-class, after all. And you can't join a mass movement like MAGA and at the same time claim to be an individualist.

fascism and nazism are not socialist ideologies. nazis they called themselves socialist because in that era SOCIALISM WAS PRETTY POPULAR. to the point where even america had it's own socialist political party. however in practice they were completely opposed to any and all socialist ideals. socialism is defined as any socioeconomic system in which PRIVATE PROPERTY (businesses for example) are owned/regulated by the general community (in the case of businesses the general community would be the workers.) an important distinction to make is that PERSONAL PROPERTY (toothbrushes, phones, houses, etc) are not counted as PRIVATE PROPERTY each socialist model has their own way of going about this. such as communism completely abolishing PRIVATE PROPERTY all together turning it into PUBLIC PROPERTY or syndicalism which suggests that PRIVATE PROPERTY should be owned by worker's unions. the nazis and fascists not only were funded by ultra capitalists who wanted to protect their profits. but the nazis would also rather infamously offer to pay out their socialist members with private property of their own in order to keep their mouths shut about it not truly adhering to the ideals of socialism. infact socialism and fascism/nazism are OPPOSED ideologies. there has never been a single point in history where both socialists and fascists existed where they got along nicely. in world war 2 for example the russians were one of the main forces who fought nazi germany. however the russians were also under a totalitarian sociopolitical system at the time. (socioPOLITICAL systems are different from socioECONOMIC systems. just as a country can be capitalist and have a totalitarian socioPOLITICAL system (as was the case with russia when they were forced to transition into a capitalist country by it's american elected dictator) a country can be socialist and have a democratic socioPOLITICAL system. (as was the case of chile during salvadore allende's era))

@@SheepyJester You... Understand that what you just described happens in every socialist system, right? In every socialist system, including in the Soviet Union, Cuba, Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy, Vietnam, etc., cronyism was a particular facet of it. The difference was how open it is between each example. The Nazis and the Italian Fascists both only initially played the part with their Nations' own conservative think-tanks until the parties themselves were able to subvert their ability as private individuals to do anything. It should be noted that both examples are more akin to syndicalism than they are truly socialist in the same way that the USSR was socialist. Socialism as an ideal is purely economic and its scope, putting private property and, more importantly, the "means of production" into the hands of the community. The community in their case being that of the Aryan race or the Italian government under the Fascist Council. It should be noted that, when the usefulness of their benefactors ran out, their benefactors and their businesses were "privatized", which was simply a fancy dressing up of the process of nationalization. Are there any other examples of how the Nazis and the fascists weren't socialist, and outright opposed it, when they themselves acted exactly like the socialists they do despised?

@@NagandEmerald the difference is that socialism not only ISN'T based on eugenics. but it also focuses on the economic angle of a country rather than the political angle of a country. you are making a common mistake of associating socialism with totalitarian rule. this is not the case. as is proven with chile and democratically elected salvador allende who explicitly wanted to work towards a more democratic system. (ofcourse the USA was having none of that and ousted allende via a coup but that's besides the point.) socialism is a philosophy encompassing several socioECONOMIC systems. this philosophy focuses on how property should be regulated and how wealth should be redistributed. no socialist system is perfect. in general socialist systems want to put the ownership and regulation of private property into the hands of society as a whole rather than a small group of people. each socialist system has their own way of going about this. some are more effective. some are less. socialism works best in tandem with democracy. as in it's core it's supposed to be an EXPANSION of democracy into more aspects of society. such as the work place, for example. however due to capitalist military intervention (akin to the USA incited coup on salvadore allende in chile) motivated for the sake of keeping profits in check by removing the threat of socialism to the WEALTHY. there is no chance for a democratic socialist country to exist without conflict with the wealthy. fascism and nazism are socioPOLITICAL systems. fascism focuses on upholding an autocratic social hierarchy in which a dictator has free reign and any and all kinds of opposition are surpressed. what differs it from a dictatorship is it's belief in a NATURAL social hierarchy with one country or race being "Superior" to the others. nazism is a form of fascism with a disdain for parlaments or liberal democracies often characterized by it's use of eugenics, racial hierarchy and racial purity within it's ideology. a simple search on wikipedia tells you these definitions. nazism merely presented itself as socialist in order to cast a facade on their true ideals and to appeal to working class resentments. such as denouncing banks, department stores and "interest slavery". however they never acted on any socialist ideals. (source: www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2020/02/05/right-needs-stop-falsely-claiming-that-nazis-were-socialists/ ) (if you don't trust links then just search up "washington post the right needs to stop claiming that nazis were socialists" and click the first result)

Not entirely accurate though. Fascism is a left wing ideology, it seeks to implement Socialism and because of that can't be considered right wing, because on the right we like free markets and we take quality over equality. Sometimes I wonder if we should just discard the terms left and right, because they're pretty vague. We could also use more precise language like Statist and Liberal/Libertarian, because essentially the left is the side of Statism, while the right is the side of Liberalism in the true sense of the word.

Back in the 1980's, when Reagan was unfettering corporate power, rattling the saber, and buying every weapon system imaginable, my friends and I called Republicans "fascists." Mussolini describe his Fascism as the convergence of corporate and government power, and with the militaristic nature of the Reagan Administration, it met my understanding of the definition of fascism. That was over 40 years ago. Now, the Democrats are looking more and more like the party in Orwell's book.

Once had a "conversation" with someone who called someone a fascist. I think it's funny how the definition adds to it they have to be a conservative to be fascist. But then people say that every conservative is a fascist, wouldn't that make the word not needed? IF fascist=every conservative ever, then it is essentially an oxymoron. But when I point out to someone that there are plenty of progressives that practice fascism. The answer I would get mostly is that they are indeed not progressives, but actually conservative. As all politicians nowadays are more conservative than could be progressive. But how does that not make the term even less useful in describing anyone?

As a conservative, I am open to listening to other ideologies, such as communism. Unfortunately, the left doesn't do itself any favors by calling everyone on the right a fascist. And that's a shame, because I belive that the left and the right both have good Ideas and can work together to get the best out of both. But when the left calls everyone on the right a fascist, they scare away people who are interested on the other side despite different political opinions.

They were very anti trump and any questioning from my mouth was met with insults, narcissism, and degrading comments on my intelligence. Whole family fell apart because of political views. I was part of the hive mind to fit in a while until one day my family started accusing my cousin of possibly wanted to shoot up his school. He was 13 at the time and never had a evil bone. They accused him of wanting to do so all because they found out he watched different right wing figures on KZbin. He had some bad thoughts on women from these individuals admittedly but he never had any life threatening views. Who hasn’t had a dumb opinion when young? This is when I snapped away and realized they could be this irrational about anyone even me and i disassociated from them until I found a way out.

I think of Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals: #5 Ridicule is man's most potent weapon. #8 Keep pressure on, with different tactics and actions, and utilize all events of the period for your purpose. #13 Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it. I'm sure there are other rules that apply, but these are tactics Saul Alinsky shared with his followers. They call their opponents 'fascists', they are doing it to attack a movement, not to give an honest discussion. It's a form of bullying someone rather than having an honest discussion.

McCarthy was actually correct in most assertions but never pointed anyone specifically out in public due to lack of evidence but he is primarily vindicated through history of his private suspicions, though not card carrying communists they (the suspected) did siphon intelligence to the USSR or were financially backed by the USSR in cultural works. The McCarthy trials were not intended for just communist's and at first were against fascists started not by McCarthy but was focused on due to his easier to target. McCarthy attacked those in the Army getting the establishment against him in his blatant incompetency, and due to his anti communist stance our media has vilified him. From the dress tailor of queen Elizabeth to any grant funded scientific team in the US the USSR had their hands in there, he's just an easy target which was one instance of blatant belligerence which is blanketing all the anti communism of the era. McCarthy did one trial and fucked up once and the left never forgot and blamed the red scare on him from beginning to end. They were found and purged not by the right but other leftist's and trade unionist in all sections of society and they were ran out by mostly other communists not soviet aligned.

While I assume this video was done in good faith, the creator clearly doesn't know what the Red Scare actually was: 1. Americans knew exactly what they meant by using the term "Communist": acolytes of Karl Marx's Political Philosophy of Communism:, defined as the political positions of Abolition of Property, Seizure of Means of Production Either Through Violent or Infiltrative Revolution of the Government, and Totalizing Collectivization of Power Over the Economy through the Government. The term especially applied those allied with the Soviet Empire and seeking to support/advance/incorporate the US and the rest of the world into it. 2. The term Mccarthyism is at best an ad hominem against Joseph McCarthy, since as a senator he was focused on Soviet spy infiltration into the US government and military. The House Unamerican Activities Committee, the body that interrogated people accused of being a communist and which people think of when the word McCarthyism is brought up, was led by Democrat Roy Brewer, an American labor union representative and anti-communist activist who saw communists try to take over various labor unions in the US. Senator Joseph McCarthy could not serve in the *HOUSE* of Representatives, from which the HUAC took its name. 3. There were actual communists identified by the HUAC through interviews identifying members of the Communist Party USA, and that party *was* directly funded and supported by the Soviet Union and money the Soviets sent to the US. In fact, so much money was poured by the Soviets into just the Hollywood side of the communist movement that it equaled what the average congressional candidates spends on campaign ads ever election cycle, except they did it every year on the year for over 60 years.

Hello Lavader. I've been a subscriber for a few months. I found out about your channel with the corporatism video. I would simply like to tell you the following (in relation to your videos): - I've went to Turkey recently. Atatürk is nigh-unavoidable in the public space or even in the private one. There, l saw his effigy in parks, streets, statues, on your Turkish lira bills and coins, and even in kebabs and an exchange office. I even met a Kurd in Denizli that expressed his main beef with him: that he did not create an independent Kurdistan (an issue different from the one you addressed: secularism to disguise anti-Islam policies) and he told me that indeed, you don't criticize the man in public. - Before I stumbled on your channel, I had read a book that led me to the same conclusion as you on Wilhelm II of Germany: He wasn't some bloodthirsty warmonger (I live in Belgium though, lol) and it was more so the governments that wanted to pursue wars, while the monarchs did not want to. - You are the first Bosnian or Bosniak video maker or political publisher that I've watched on KZbin. I am happy to have your perspective on the internet and to learn more about Bosnia and the Balkans. - I would recommend to you Carl Schmitt's "Political Theology" I can tell you the following about secularism: in its French or Turkish form, it's not so much State neutrality towards religion, but State neutralization of religion. The book is short, but it might be of interest to you. I read it (with other books of his) to write a paper on Schmitt's legal thinking.
