its reassuring seeing the record setter, like THE guy, coasting through turns. That it can be faster to not go for the inside 100% of the time. That shorter distance doesnt equals faster. There isnt some faster line always, but being completely aware of your surroundings, and of what your cars limits are. This was really cool to see, and packed with good information. I dont think I hsd really ever thought about tarmac age being a thing til this too. Thanks for the post

I mean for me its everything but reassuring, its the most difficult thing in irl racing where you cant memorize how to drive but you have to constantly adapt and almost “Guess” what would be the best thing to do in that exact Moment and the exact conditions Need to be gifted and a lot of experience to perform

@@senseikawasaki2326 that is exactly racing. A ton of repetition. Trial and error bud. Knowing what works, what you're limits are. What edges you have by driving a track so many times you see every turn in your sleep. When you don't focus on the driving because it's second nature. I promise you that's exactly why Steve got picked up, was because of that 24 hour marathon. That's exactly what it takes. It's definitely skill, but you can learn a lot with practice/sim racing. You start slow, see what works, and eventually get faster. Don't be discouraged bud, you got this :)

Great bit of info in the wet, never really thought about it; run it wider to put extra load on the tires and build heat, which will increase traction. Really great coaching, that dry lap was buttery smooth, beautiful lines.

I'm really glad you and Maro made this video, as I'm currently preparing for my first RCN race in the VT2 class next year. Driving the Nürburgring in the wet was always the thing that scared me the most about this track, especially the high speed sections like Schwedenkreuz, foxhole or the bravery corner. I'll definitly follow Maro's advice on writing all the notes down on a track map and learn the wet line on the sim. Hopefully it lets me drive there much saver. Thanks!

Respect to Steve for sharing all of this with us and giving the driving lesson the time it deserves. No glitz, glamor, or paid television to watch this. Growing up in AZ and WI, my only concept of racing either came from NASCAR(which I loathed) or GT1-4, which I have played over 2k hours of minimum. I only found Super GT on a random search for Gran Turismo-based content, and got hooked on his sense of humor towards online racing. I hadn't been given permission to play video games online until I was like 15 and not until 17 was I actually given physical access to the modem, because my family was hyper-controlling of that sort of thing. Well, I never stopped loving racing, and here we are looking at a GT3 car being driven by an elite with our boy in the passenger seat. It's proof that if you love something enough, chances are it will guide you to real, objective, and measurable success. I might love racing enough but out here, there's little in the way of encouragement towards GT racing and actual driving skill. The reason NA servers are low-skill is we just don't have the same hype for this style, and our internet is sufficiently bad/expensive enough that playing on overseas servers is a headache for everyone involved. This is how I justify this vicarious thrill ride(the video I'm watching as a 27 yo American) to myself: It's the closest I may come to actually driving on the NN. Thank you Steve.

On a few corners there I was wondering why he was just coasting around them like bearly any throttle at all, then I looked at G meter and it's pretty much tapped out! Absolutely crazy, would have been an awesome ride!!

If a tyre doesn't have to cope with longitudinal and lateral forces at the same time it has more grip (simplified theory). So it can give you more lateral grip when you don't apply acceleration or deceleration forces. Look up "circle of forces" or "Kammscher Kreis".
