I had an aortic root replacement at age 32 I was 452lbs. I started hiking, which then turned to training, and is now turning into running. I lost 252lbs of weight over the last 5 years I've been running 5k and 10k I sold my car and walk everywhere I go and have never been happier there's much more to experience on foot

First saw the man race in 1980 at the Veteran Games in Christchurch, then was lucky enough to take part in the same half-marathon at Balclutha at the start of the 1990s (I finished minutes behind him). Inspirational guy.

21 years later and Derek Turnbull stills holds the world record for 65-year-olds in these distances - mile, 3000 metres, 5000 metres, 10000 metres and marathon. Sadly, Derek died in 2006, aged 79.

I will be 65, in 7 months from now ... without any pre destined (genetic) base to be athletic, I started running only at the age of 56. (Never ever done any cardio sport in my life before, I was a total disaster as a kid) Nowadays, I run up to 50 times/year 20K-plus trainings and contests now (20 à 32km, often trail runs) and finish about at the 2/3 position group of all competitors (all ages together, I mean !! :-) ) My personal best time on classic road 1/2 marathon was this year 2021 in may. (Pace 5:27 km/min) It's amazing to know I could not run in my youth (excessive astma + extreme weak muscles), and now I can pass by quite some young people ! I will NOT stop running !!! :-) Changed my life ! I've still space to grow a few % in speed ! I know I'm not 'gifted' in any way, even my lungs are too small for my size... but it's pure dedication, and constant training. With a smile ! >>> Just yesterday :-) 22.4km trail run - 260hm. scontent-bru2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.30808-6/246629032_10159539532218936_841338227682923490_n.jpg?_nc_cat=104&ccb=1-5&_nc_sid=730e14&_nc_ohc=XQzNvKq9ploAX-_QuUE&_nc_ht=scontent-bru2-1.xx&oh=6bb3b25fc41803017e5ca57eff93177e&oe=61719507

People live for over 90 years because of their healthy lives styles. They exercise, don’t smoke or moderately in alcohol, no drugs, and eating good food. Proud of them I think they are super heroes.

Shearing those sheep looks like hard work...only ran one marathon...1968...Artesia New Mexico...2:50.2...finished 6th...did stop at 10 miles to use the restroom..no forward progress for between 2 and 5 minutes....think the break actually helped...felt renewed after that break...an Irishman qualified for the marathon in Mexico City..for Ireland...time was 2:24..
