@ You're partially correct. A lens changes the perspective of the visuals but it does not alter the surroundings at the same time. The lens was able to show the curvature only because the earth is actually round. If the earth was flat, then even the lens couldn't do anything. So basically both the lens and the earth's roundness play a role and even one cant exist without both.
