I like your singular focus on the SP-404 on this channel. Lo-fi hip hop beats are so infectious. They sound good on their own and for adding flavor to other genres. The way to make great music is to go deep with your instrument, and that's what you're teaching people to do. I think you will see more subscriptions and more growth of your channel. Great job!

Thank you for the tutorial how to chop samples with the sp 404!👌 I'm using the MPC Live and I'm interested in the SP because of the FX, but both compared it seems the way to chop samples on the SP takes way much time. Is this the fastest way to chop samples? You can't play a sample and set markers live? Thanks for sharing your experience.✌️
@spvidz5 жыл бұрын
No you can’t set markers live. The SP is a quite a basic sampler - no way near as comprehensive as the MPC. Like you say though the FX are great

Any tips on "auto stop record" when resampling?? I know this function does not exist, but with some fx the resample ends make it very difficult to trim tight loops. Thx Keep up the awesome work my friend.
@spvidz4 жыл бұрын
Not sure what you mean bro. The resample ends? What is it you’re trying to do?
@U_G_Bp4 жыл бұрын
@@spvidz when i resample a drum break, Trimming the end is often very difficult to make when some fx are applied. For example this am i chopped a 2 bar break easy, then with a compressor applied I could not make a tight loop.
@spvidz4 жыл бұрын
My suggestion is record a little more than you need then it gives you room to keep trimming until you get it right. It’s a bit fiddly on the sp no real easy way of getting round stuff like this!

spvidz Thanks for the Quick reply! Im a bit new to all this, could you please explain what u mean by “bumps” and “foleys” ? :)

spvidz Aight Thanks My man❤️ now that I’ve been trying this technique My SP suddenly started to take really long to truncate and copy samples. Do you know why This could be happening? Is the lenght of the original sample to long (4 min)? Thanks for you time

1:19 when i choose the pad, nothing blinks. why is this happening?

That would happen if you either haven't quite done it correctly, or all the pads in that bank already have samples on them. Only pads that are free will flash

could explain the use of the Zoom H5 with the SP?
@spvidz5 жыл бұрын
Its just a recording device man. If you get a phono cable that converts to double jack at the end it plugs straight in and you can record anywhere on battery power. I use it to record my SP and mic at the same time via a mixer because my laptop always skips when I record!

is this copy function in classic sp-404?
@spvidz4 жыл бұрын
I’ve never used a 404 og but from looking at the pictures there is no function button and therefore no copy. You could use resample instead I guess or it might be easier to just sample each part you want one at a time. Anyone is welcome to correct me if I’m wrong!

It dont seams to have any shift button neither sub options under the pads of the 404og’s manual on he website

It might sound counter intuitive, but I think just playing the record and hitting record on the pieces you want is faster than all that button pressing.

@spvidz4 жыл бұрын
not sure what you mean by 'completely deleted' sorry? The samples will stay on the SP using internal memory even if you turn it off/on or you can back up everything using the back-up feature and start again fresh - then load that save at any point you want to bring it back. Hope that helps
@portinim4 жыл бұрын
tried chopping a sample but every time i hit "mark" it will just say "Prt" and then doesn't allow me to do anything to it
@spvidz4 жыл бұрын
Are you holding dow the pad at the same time? Hold the pad and hit mark at the same time at the point you want to mark. Hope that helps man
@jaykeegan99293 жыл бұрын
Not sure if this question will make sense. I’m terrible with wording questions sometimes. But in the video when you’re copying pad 1 to pad 2 and then truncating pad 2/ releasing mark on pad 1. On the first pad after you’ve released the mark, is the entire sample still there on pad 1 that you marked and then copied? So if you for example hit pad 1 you would still hear that part you’ve now copied and truncated on pad 2. I hope this makes sense and isn’t just word vomit.
@spvidz3 жыл бұрын
Yeah the full sample will be on pad one as long as you don't truncate it. its nice to keep that as a kind of backup if anything goes wrong. I just mark it and start copying, I never truncate the original sample on pad 1

@spvidz5 жыл бұрын
Dont think so man no. I'm not exactly sure as I don't own one but I don't think you can truncate on the OG so you have to go through the sample each time and set a mark point. If you have one give it a try and let me know
@NashakMusic5 жыл бұрын
You CAN place marks, truncate and delete the sample's marks on the OG, but there's no Function button, so no copy-pasting :-( . You have to re-sample the whole pad to a new pad in order to "apply" this technique. It's long, but it works just fine. Wish I had an SX tho... ! :-D
