I will add - get out in the sun more. Ambient light is absolutely necessary, especially morning sun. Light, water, magnetism are the big 3. People who seldom see the light of day are going to struggle no matter what there diet, exercise routine - it's just how the human body has evolved. The ambient light factor has been suppressed in health care forever.

Quite interesting. Thanks, Thomas! I'm 74, but most people peg me at mid to late 50s. Cross country ski team, dogsledding, mountaineering and triathlon through my 60s. Not competing or climbing anymore but still quite active. In winter I keep my house at 63 during the day and 55 at night, just to save money. Been doing that forever. Never occurred that I was getting a health benefit . Cool. I've been low carb, keto-ish for the last 6 years. I don't eat refined or junk or processed foods at all. No seed oils, yadda yadda yadda. But in spite of all this, I have been routinely 15 pounds overweight. No matter what I do. With brute force (near starvation), I managed to lose that weight at one point --- but I had zero energy and found it hard to do my sports and found it hard to work, too. No, bueno. So I've accepted that these extra pounds are just gonna stay. Any ideas what's going on? Would love to drop the excess lbs, but without loss of energy
@helenahandkart185710 күн бұрын
@@lmergenti as we age, it's actually beneficial to have a few (not lots of) spare pounds. If we get sick or injured it is somewhat muscle sparing. Over 50, being active, having muscle mass & being metabolically healthy is more important healthwise than excessive leanness.

Yes, older individuals often experience an accumulation of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) mutations. Several factors contribute to this phenomenon: ### Reasons for Accumulation of mtDNA Mutations with Age 1. **Replication Errors**: Mitochondria replicate their DNA independently of the cell's nuclear DNA. As cells divide, errors can occur during mtDNA replication, leading to mutations. 2. **Oxidative Stress**: Mitochondria are a primary source of reactive oxygen species (ROS) as byproducts of energy production. Over time, oxidative damage can lead to mutations in mtDNA. 3. **Decreased Repair Mechanisms**: The efficiency of DNA repair mechanisms tends to decline with age, making it harder for cells to correct mtDNA mutations. 4. **Cellular Senescence**: Aging cells may enter a state of senescence where they cease to divide and function optimally, contributing to the accumulation of damaged mtDNA. ### Implications of mtDNA Mutations in Older Adults - **Energy Production**: Mutations can impair the mitochondria's ability to produce ATP (adenosine triphosphate), leading to decreased cellular energy availability. - **Age-Related Diseases**: Accumulated mtDNA mutations are associated with various age-related conditions, including neurodegenerative diseases (like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's), cardiovascular diseases, and metabolic syndromes. - **Decline in Physiological Function**: The overall decline in mitochondrial function can contribute to muscle weakness, fatigue, and reduced resilience against stressors in older adults. ### Conclusion While mitochondrial DNA mutations are a natural part of aging, their accumulation can have significant effects on health and longevity. Ongoing research aims to better understand these mechanisms and explore potential interventions to mitigate their impact. 🙏 Thom

@RaimoTammАй бұрын
It is because people naturally (evolutionally) tend to consume more calories when weather gets colder. It’s body’s way to cope and survive in more difficult conditions. The a bit more exessive calorie intake happens unknowingly, at most cases. Another part in this weight gaining equasion related to colder weather is the thing that people start moving less: not so much being outside has a large part. These are most likely the primary aspects why and how people tend to gain weight when wheather gets cold(er). Alongside with other parts of it.

You must really be young if always referring to people over 40 as being old. I'm 66 and have been on a carnivore diet for 40 years. I couldn't afford a computer back in the 80s, or Internet. It’s criminal the way Dr. Atkins was vilified. The current wide usage of keto should be replaced with Atkins. Basically, what it comes down to: You are 25: you need to consistently work on diet and exercise. As you age, your body's ability to reduce systemic inflammation levels decline. Better diet = less systemic inflammation build up. Consistent exercise = reduces systemic inflammation in the body. As you age, your diet needs to get cleaner and some kind of exercise becomes more important to maintain optimal health. You are >=40: if you haven't cleaned up your diet and exercise regime, you will feel the impact of not doing so.

One more ingredient that you need to research and be cautious of is Citric Acid. Made from Black Mold. *Consuming a large amount of citric acid can lead to stomach upset, including nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, due to its high acidity, and may also cause tooth enamel erosion, skin irritation in some cases, and in extreme situations, could even trigger a dangerous condition called metabolic acidosis where your blood becomes too acidic; it's generally considered safe in moderate amounts found in natural citrus fruits, but excessive consumption of concentrated citric acid can be harmful. Key points about consuming too much citric acid: Stomach discomfort: The most common side effect is an upset stomach with symptoms like nausea, cramps, and heartburn, especially for people with pre-existing conditions like GERD. Tooth enamel damage: Citric acid is highly acidic and can erode tooth enamel over time, increasing the risk of cavities if consumed excessively. Skin irritation: Applying concentrated citric acid directly to the skin can cause irritation, redness, and burning. Potential for metabolic acidosis: In very rare cases, ingesting a large amount of citric acid could lead to metabolic acidosis, a serious condition where the blood becomes too acidic. Allergic reactions: Some people may have allergic reactions to citric acid produced by certain molds used in manufacturing, like Aspergillus niger.

While the thought of bolstering the batokines and turning white fat cells into brown fat cells sounds exciting...something you seldom ever hear about huge fat loss is the amount of loose skin you end up with afterwards...and NO, autophagy doesn't prevent loose skin, especially if you're over 40 or have been obese for quite a number of years. The daunting part of getting rid of loose skin is having a tummy tuck which renders you incapacitated for however long the surgeon tells you that you cannot do any heavy lifting or cardio or stand upright for anywhere from an average of 3-6 months (everyone recovers and heals at different rates), and you have to sleep and walk around bent over in a V-shape so you don't rip the stitches out of your hip-to-hip sutured incision. Another thing I didn't know is that you CANNOT be by yourself after the surgery--you need someone to help you get to and from the bathroom and other activities of daily living. You cannot drive while you're on pain meds. Having discovered this, I'm opting out of having a tummy tuck because I'm too damned independent to be an invalid, and I don't want to have to start all over again with physical therapy to regain muscle strength if I have to be forced into a prolonged bed rest. I don't have any family, and I don't have any friends that I would want to wipe my butt....don't even know if I'd want a Boston Dynamics robot to do this either!!! So...I'm keeping my wobbly loose belly skin, tie it in a knot/tie it in a bow, and dump it in some Spandex pants and calling it good. To hell with the thought of getting stuck in a deceitful marriage ever again. The 42 years of living in a deceptive marriage and working in front of a computer for 3+ decades for a lousy paycheck damaged my mitochondria and depleted and plugged up my ATP production, and that, my friend, is how I ended up becoming way overweight. In the last three years, I've lost 75 pounds from walking everyday and eating OMAD. I have 40-50 more pounds to get rid of. Maybe by then, I'll have enough loose skin that I can use it for doing the boxer's rope skipping...who knows!?!?
