Anthony Joshua is an Olympic Gold Medal winning boxer but still got schooled by Usyk twice in a row and said “damn I gotta learn how to box” then goes on a crazy 4 fights in 11 months win streak
@nerdjournal
@nerdjournal 6 ай бұрын
Well, Usyk is also an Olympic Gold Medal winning boxer. So why caveat, AJ? Don't get me wrong, I think Usyk is the RIGHT person for champion. He is a champion ANYONE can look up to. I find the premise of this video weird, though. He puts emphasis on these guys fighting more than one fight a year, but doesn't put the idea together that is AFTER they lose their belts. While holding them, they also only fought once a year. He thinks it's only about the undefeated part of things, but it's also about the belt. Plus, the dudes who aren't champion should have to fight more fights a than the actual champion. That's how you get to claim the rights to challenge again. I kind of wish Usyk would retire and leave that legacy completely intact. Not that I think him losing in the future negates what he accomplished, but... What a story. Dude is super impressive.

I wouldn't exactly say that was a prime Hagler, even Leonard admitted he only fought him because he saw him slipping in the Mugabe fight. Not to mention all the shenanigans he pulled in regard to the conditions of the fight, as well as hiding the fact that he had been training a lot longer than people had anticipated. His "ring rust" was a very rare one that had a lot of threads involved, it wasn't like the other cases.

Leonard was ring rusted, Hagler was in his prime or closer to his prime than Leonard was at his best (like Ali and Tyson, Leonard never had a prime nor reached it.) He actually was more focused on overcoming his drug and alcoholism, he never trained properly. Maybe the conditions of the fight made it a bit fair for Leonard since he came out of his five year retirement.
@samgreenfield3074
@samgreenfield3074 6 ай бұрын
I agree hagler should’ve won that fight, despite like you said with Leonard’s choosing the perfect time and setting up the perfect situation for that fight. On top of that the odds for hagler and Leonard were 20/1. With those odds and everyone putting money on hagler, you know how it goes with Vegas, sports betting and the house. Of course they gave the victory to sugar ray instead of Hagler. So much money in and potential future fights for Leonard. Plus sugar ray Leonard had a more fan friendly persona, charming smile and appeal that was always got preferable treatment unlike Hagler who suffered the exact opposite his whole career. Hagler got fucked over so many times through his career and that robbery against sugar ray Leonard was just the tipping point for him so he’d quit after that. Heartbreaking having his legacy affected but despite all that he’s the best middleweight ever and in my top 10 pound for pound all time goats.

Some people have a higher propensity to loose things after head injuries while still being functional and healthy. Playing football I got a bad bad concussion one year and everything was fine but I completely lost the ability to draw, and in that case according to the docs I was extremely lucky not to have lost in the grand scheme of things something actually important. And I must highlight that was from one hard head injury at the beginning of the season. Imagine having a career where 50% of you energy is focused around managing your injury’s and longevity.

The reason Joshua is active like that is bc of how low the level of opposition is in his four fights. Wilder might have lost to Parker but no one can’t say Parker is isn’t far above Joshua’s last four opponents. And Parker fought 3 guys in a row who were very low level before wilder. There’s nuance to everything. Activity is good but in Joshua’s case in particular more than Parker I think the success is much more because of the matchmaking

I respect the heck out of Boxing and enjoy tuning in for certain fights but does anyone else feel like Heavyweight boxing was on a totally different level around the Mike Tyson Era? I'm glad Fury & Usyk are finally challenging each other. Even besides that tho it just doesn't seem like boxing is filled with that same amount of decent talent & active competitors alongside the select few who's talent rose above the rest. I'm talking in a loose term of expression. Everything from the classic era until Roy Jones Jr. Era seemed to be full of Talent and active athletes who were willing to challenge themselves against most of the top talent in order to prove their own talent and abilities. I only say this because Tyson Fury has gone on record to claim he's the greatest of all time. I'm not flat out disagreeing with him. The dude is amazingly talented. I'm just saying it seems like boxing nowadays is different than other Highest level boxing moments.. It's hard to explain without coming off shitty

Thats CAP AF. You are picking dudes who fought more AFTER they lost their belts. But when they held their belts, they also were fighting less. Of course, people want to protect their titles and their record. You aren't using logic, though. These guys are fighting more to get back in contention and because they DON'T have something to lose. Usyk showed us why he is the champion and why he DESERVES to be undefeated and undisputed. Hell I hope he never fights again. I hope he walks away with the perfect record. This man's country is at war FROM INVASION and you are complaining because he only puts his belt on the line once a year? Even though the guys you like, only fought once a year while they held belts? You aren't making a logical argument, you are making an emotional one.

Completely agree, Usyk the whole time at heavyweight had a firm goal to go for undisupted, he went for it in the most direct route possible and succeeded. The fight would've happened much sooner if it wasn't for Fury trying his best to avoid him. No one can blame Usyk for inactivity when his country is literally at war like you said, and when Fury along with all his ducking and gatekeeping the WBC belt antics was the final step to achieving his dream.

You must not have seen the hagler vs Leonard fight. Hagler stalked him every round and ray ran. Then when with 15 seconds at the end of each round he would run in and throw a quick flury of punches that did nothing. Ray stole the last 10 seconds of each round and the judges fell for it.

You're wrong. I've always said Wilder cannot box. He throws punches like MMA fighters, long, hard, reaching, telegraphing, and overreaching. He's also got MMA footwork. This proves my point.

For a split second, I thought this was really about Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson. Imagine Tyson's legacy if he loses. Just for completion's sake mind you. Now recognize that Jake Paul can't make a boxing comeback from beyond the grave. That poor fool of a boy doesn't seem to understand what is coming for him.

Wilder koed stiff by Fury. He needed time to recover after that, so it's normal he wasn't that active.

To be fair, there's not a good fighter in all of boxing these days. It's all bout money and who can keep an unbroken win streak. No1 wants to fight.

He needs the win. But I hope he loses. He isn't like Usyk who's humble and everything. Doesn't matter who wins. There's a rematch clause. Makes me feel like it will be a draw.

Those are common weakness of hood boxers after their first loss. Look at broner, wilder and possible haney and spence. Unlike other boxers outside the hood americans that they know how to be much better such as Ryan garcia, canelo, pacman, marquez, and non hood boxers. But still the hood Mayweather is the goat
