Rebuilding the red 72 is a good idea, but, don't forget the Bounder is a solid platform to build a real cool ramp-truck. You could even swap an old Van cab on the Bounder frame and even use some of the van to make a sleeper cab ramp-truck. Never give up a solid frame.

Fix it. It's a big job yes. I'm currently doing the same on a 2000 bounder. It's a great pita learning experience. Also it'll have a lot more space and be more enjoyable. I look at it as redoing a small house or 3 bedrooms. Another thing is that you get to make the interior more modern. The wall material really isn't that expensive. It can look like a mini mansion if desired with painting afterwards. Basically it would have the amazing wow factor as you wouldn't expect it to be so nice on the inside. Like that old regular house and you go in for the 1st time and have to step back out in disbelief.

No shame in knowing when to walk away from something. Fantastic idea to use the parts for a much cooler motor home. Absolutely do a video on destruction of anything, to include a dilapidated motor home. I will watch, without judgment, anything you guys record. I found one appreciate the entertainment. Thank you.

Get the red one. Swap the drivetrain into the 72 and make it badass. The motor home, trust me from experience watching my daughters boyfriend try to fix one of those up. It’s way too much. The 67-72 body style is the best in my opinion. It’ll gain value where the big one just depreciated everyday!! Overall your choice… but I would build the 72!! Good luck and thanks for the videos.

Hello from Alberta, Canada! I'd say take what you can off of the Bounder and use it to fix up the other one. Definitely a lot of good parts on what you have. Bounders are common and the one you have is too far gone. The delamination on the exterior screams rot and mold. Like you say, the '72 as a motorhome is more collectible, far more interesting and a much more manageable size. I'm looking forward to seeing the build!
@MrGazzw

If that one is just not eccentrically viable to fix up, then if the red one is more collectable and a lot easier fix, then definitely salvage what you can to fix up the red one, essentially if you don't need such a large one. And definitely would love to see the destruction on that after.

First time follower and just watched the 1st Bounder vid. I agree with you on salvaging the motor and trans. for the old red chevy camper project. As long as that camper body is able to be fixed without going nuts it will be a classic vehicle. You have several nice old school chevy trucks many would love to own. VW's, my first was a 61 and my two older brothers ran them growing up. You got nothing to be ashamed of sir and your daughter has a great smile. You can see the love she has for you. Good Luck and enjoy the builds.

Since you ask- YES! strip out all the good parts of the HUGE motor home and fix the Red One. I did some math to see how much it would cost to fill the 80 gallon gas tank. In a word WOW!. ANY RV is a money pit, the red one would be far less of that. I agree the, Bounder is leaking everywhere and rotted out-not worth the repairs. And to brighten your Day- this writer has raised a family, and grand children and am now on great grand children- and I will say your girl is the brightest and happiest kid in my long experience. Congratulations on a job well done!

TIP, when dealing with old fuel and injectors of any sort use premium fuel as well as a little transmission fluid to clean out everything. A new fuel filter is always needed. It's always funny to a point that Free always costs $$$!

Garth, what you are doing is what most of us should be doing. Reusing and recycling. Came across your channel and loving every minute of it. As other's have said, ignore the haters. That old bounder has a lot of good items to salvage and reuse that will save a few thousand dollars. Not sure if the chevy is a C20 or C30? Those are rare to come by. Looking foward to what you do next.
@christinemcwilliams9842

Don't forget all the windows as that is what is probably leaking, which will just need to be resealed when reused. Also all the twelve volt lighting. I used some of our old lighting for a refit for a van. Even if you do a tiny house van style alot of those items could be reused. Beware of glass lined water heaters they have a tendency to get pinhole size holes in them and can cause trouble later. The last time I bought a used stove for our RV was Inn the 90's and it was $125/ used. So all is not lost. If you cut up the frame there's money to be made from the scrap yard.

! Convert the 72 Chevy! Of course, you can use the a c's, but you will probably only need one, and the appliances from this boundary would be perfect! Now for the body in the back where the living compartment is you can take the windows out of the boundary by new seal gaskets for the perimeter of the window and put those into the 72. Along with the 454!

Somehow switching saddles to fix up that smashed red 72, reminds me of the Wild Cherry (red) van restoration, after being found in really bad shape, and rotting in a field! Hi I was just watching a clip Random Randomness KCMO has uploaded The guy in the clip was talking about and showing a lowrider van It was built in the 1990's and it is based on a Chevy Astro The van is sitting in a junkyard I know that you rescue old vehicles and you bring them back to life Thought that you might be interested in the vehicle Perhaps you and your oldest daughter could work on it and the van could be hers Pint it pink ,and trim it in pink

For some, restoring these type of vehicles is not just about money and any profit made. If, I was given something for free and could restore it all cheaply, then the resale amount is all pure profit. New (fabricated?) pieces of metal and wood required is nothing too expensive. As you said. The guts of it like the engine, transmission, tyres and A/C are ok. There is probably even a way to rig the A/C for both areas, to get the benefit of it at the same time. Just have the windows and door open with fly screens (if any?) in use. If you are parked in a safe and secure environment. One day these vehicles will be classic (if not already?) then later on, maybe even vintage and their value will soar. If, you really don't want the work required, maybe consider letting someone with a real passion for retro vehicles have a chance. I, personally love these older type RV's. I am not much of a fan of the European ones. I am not in America but would snap that up if I was. Once vehicles like this are broken up they are gone for good, usually. End of an era. Response to video only.

You have come to a good decision I would say this is a better idea for using the components to rescue the 72 .the bounder is going to use more profits then what the return would be so its like your accomplished two goals your putting parts of the boulder and putting that 72 which would continue to wither away in the wrecking yard so it's like putting two vehicles on the road look forward to viewing the progress. And far as the individuals sending a comment like he did. Well he is just jealous that he is unable to have a setup like you do to accomplish the return of these vehicles and you don't have to answer a certain amount of time to do this. So best to ignore the haters and just continue in the pace you have chosen.

I have repaired MH with the fiberglass sidewalls ,its not as big a problem as it seems. The inside wall are simply 3/16 luan paneling which is all installed with special glue made for foam application. The outer wall are the same glue. the structure is usually made of alum tubing and the windows are trimmed in wood. if it was me I ld jump in the project with both feet. Iv done this many times in my 82 yrs of life and loved every minuet of it. but thats just me.. The biggest job is just getting started..

If you could get a donated reefer trailer , the sides will be Aluminium or fibre glass covered ply wood. It will be self supporting unlike a timber frame with ply lining both sides. With the price of sheet material and lumber this might be and option, Maybe a bit heavier per square yard, so maybe a Cummins transplant to give it some more go.

The main problem with your plan is what if the original 400 drivetrain in the red Chevy RV is repairable? enabling you to repair an original classic RV complete with original drivetrain? Then you won't need much from the Bounder. Also, If you can find a way to quickly patch and seal the Bounder fit to reduce homelessness, then that would be highly ethical, though if you can't, you can't. I suppose the Bounder might still manage to reduce homelessness even without a drivetrain, if it can be towed to a suitable site; but most homeless people need to be able to leave when told. Also, even after using some parts for the Red Chevy, I'm sure that would leave hundreds of Bounder parts, including custom cabinetry and glass, that the 3 of you could list to help save other Bounders, some of which might also be preventing homelessness; though just the listing is a good bit of work. I, for one, would rather see a careful deconstruction and part listing than a demolition by excavator, especially if girls can learn by deconstruction. I certainly learned when I deconstructed my Datsun 620 pickup.

Not necessarily a "bad" idea to rob the best pieces from the Bounder to fix the older Chevy based RV. But I will caveat that; there is almost NO RV that is worth restoring. Sadly, the old ones aren't really built ANY better. But, if You plan to keep it forever, go for it. That's just my unbiased thoughts based on Years of messing with RV's.

Try contacting Drive Shaft Specialist about making a drive shaft. They are here in San Antonio. I've had them do drive shafts for me.

If you can make it work by all means go with your idea of combining this one with the red Chevy one!

Just an idea Seeing as how you are interested in buying the chevy and you want to create a camper from it why not combine the front half of its chassis with the rear half of the chassis of the bounder Blend the chevy body with the Bounders body You will have a unique vehicle i do not know if you live anywhere near him but the guy that calls himself the Jayhawker He is a welder and a body man Used to have his own business but now works for someone he still doe bodywork on peoples cars on his spare time
