I...well. I can certainly follow the logic that led Tiptoe, the Tarnished Lord of Chaos to this conclusion. I can comprehend it, sure, but I struggle to share with the sentiment that this outcome was the best. The Flame of Chaos, by its description, would burn away all curses and sins in this world, truly. But it necessarily would have to burn away all blessings and good deeds. I just...okay. Lord of the Chaos Flame, I ask thee...did you count beforehand, or after? The countless fathers, mothers and children who are all smoldering ashes by now? The countless souls still inside the Erdtree that became kindling? Who does this ending even benefit really, with the Erdtree gone and everything, everyone and everywhere on fire, nothing can really live anymore. This isn't even a punishment for the Gods and Demigods - most of the latter is explicitly dead already and the Outer Gods are just...that. Outer. Not here. They watch the world burn for a bit and probably just move on. This ending doesn't feel like a victory, it just feels like...a hole. All of *that* aside, excellent video(s) as always T'. Your narration is seriously top notch, even as I walk away from the video feeling a gaping void in my chest.

Because it's objectively and logically not the best outcome ever. It's an ending of pure evil and destruction that only mad man and nihilistic edgelord can consider to be 'best'. It's not even 'restarting the world' or anything, it's just burning anything and everything. Despite all Tiptoe pondering and dislike of the curses and sins and all the horrible shit that had happened cause of the gods and demigods, they had committed the worse and biggest sin that cursed and doomed the world, killing all lives and everything that will be. Ironically manipulated/influenced by SHABIRI, the one that made a slander that caused the deaths of so many merchants in the first place, and becoming a vessel of AN OUTER GOD that is more cruel and evil than the one the Golden Order worship, becoming the thing they hate.

Loved the video as always and I understand the logic that led to the flame of frenzy decision but to me it's one of the few endings that is a true defeat because it makes the tarnished just as selfish and evil as the demigods that made them think it was the correct decision. It kind of feels like the world has to break the tarnished along the way and that's more sad to me than any other ending. Again, very entertaining video though.

While I'm more of an Age of Stars fellow myself, I think I'm more content with Melina ending you should you choose to inherit Frenzied Flame. Namely, because the potential implication that the madden lord will not stop with the Lands Between but potentially all other distant lands we've heard of and not that lay beyond the LB. Oh by all means burn down the Erdtree and the Lands Between and salt even the ashes and what little foundations remain (if you must) to erase the curses, sins, and life from this place forever if the horrors and despair cannot be forgiven but at least leave the lands not touched by the Greater Will and Grace in peace (relatively anyway I doubt places like the Badlands are all that peaceful) and untouched by madness. Plus I'm a huge sucker for the whole two companions fighting each other to the death because one became a tragic monster over the value of the state of existence itself. Helps ya really taste the tragedy of the situation.

From the endings we have so far it is my guess that either the Frenzied Flame ending or the Ranni ending is the canon ending, the others are all basically the same but FromSoft spent a lot more time with those two endings and both would fit nicely into the Souls series.

I'll admit I kind of saw the lord of chaos ending as kind of cruel, I really didn't like when things frenzied me so I avoided that quest line. I'm on route for the Waifu ending. Of course I read too far into things and didn't even notice the cruelty that she was capable of. For the most part I knew I wanted to end the Golden Order because they just seemed like the bad guys especially with how it rose to power and kept it. I saw Ranni as the best option to crush the golden order and defy the greater will without burning everything to ash.
@heraldyaxelevi8132

You're right, and to be fair, Ranni doesn't have much options she could take, it's not like she could just walk up to the finger and ask to be let go. The Elden Ring's going to be destroyed either way (Marika'd lost her faith), and not doing anything would just resulted in her death (There's NO WAY Ranni would win against her brother or the Scarlet Rot vessel). You could argue she played a role in the death of her half-sibling, which is true, but it's never implied she wants him dead anything since all she wants is to kill her body and her two-finger so saying her to be 'cruel' doesn't characterize her well. Not that she have any love for her half-siblings anyway, she probably hated them lmao

Some tell tales of one tarnished... one who bore a small modicum over the power of time... and one who wears naught but a pot and wields two curved swords. The only words anyone has heard them utter, just before he works his magic against the Goddess of Rot, is the following single sentence: "Let Me Solo Her".

Fantastic work. These are some theories I've been toying with. I have been considering the question of why exactly the rune of death was sealed away. It seems to me that the act of sealing death is a direct "attack" on the greater will. Here is my reasoning. When beings die in the lands between, they return to the Erdtree. Grace, which is granted by the greater will, is dispersed by or through the Erdtree. It would follow that the health of the tree is relative to the amount of power the greater will can exert in the lands between so if the tree runs on Soylent Green™(people), removing the fuel(people) would be antithetical to that. Fia is doing the same thing essentially although I don't puke in my mouth when I consider the sealing of the rune. I would also submit the stopping of the stars by Radahn is an attempt to "attack" the greater will. The whole business was started by a falling star. Logically, the stopping of the stars would inhibit the falling part. The elden beast, star. So halt the movement and that's 86 falling stars. Astel is described as a malformed star born in the flightless void far away. I submit that it was the Nox who created Astel in an attempt to replicate the elden beast in an attempt to "attack" the greater will. As you could imagine,it didn't go exactly to plan and enter Astel. Astel is said to have destroyed an eternal city and taken away their sky. I'm getting a Nox vibe off the description. I might just be completely wrong so potfriend has advised more cogitation

Been following this series from the start; real amazing job you've done! I'm glad you touched on Ranni's betrayal to Blaidd as that was a major point in which I really started questioning why I should be following any empyrean at all let alone one that sacrificed her best friend given to her in her childhood. Ranni, like all the others of her status, had an agenda for the lands between. And like all the others, she used and sacrificed people like tools to obtain it. As you said, Ranni likely knew of Blaidd's nature as a shadow and knew that he'd likely go mad as she continued on her path. Iji knew this as well. Nobody in the group tried to do anything to save him. Iji locked him away but... okay, Blaidd would just go mad within the Gaol. For what? Another tarnished to come along and defeat him like we do to other inhabitants of the other gaols? Once I reached that part of her questline, all remnants of my motivation to aid for Ranni had all be gone away.
@eliastardust
@eliastardust Жыл бұрын
I genuinely don't understand why so many people think that Ranni betrayed or sacrificed Blaidd. There is absolutely nothing in the game to imply that she did so, and in fact the game explicitly shows the opposite to be true. Yes she of course knows of his nature, and tells you as much. In fact her dialogue makes it clear that not only are both Blaidd and Iji following her by their own free will just as you, the Tarnished, are if you so choose, but that she knows that Blaidd had remained faithful to her. She even commends him for it: "Even when I turned my back upon the Two Fingers. Blaidd remained my loyal ally. Heh. Though he was created a vassal for an Empyrean, He was a colossal failure, on the part of the Two Fingers. Blaidd, and Iji both... Art willing to give too much to me. Yet they both understand. What lieth beyond the dark path... That I must betray everything, and rid the world of what came before. Ah, should I add thee to the list? Another one, kind of heart. As kind of heart as they." And then the very last thing she tells you before going on to slay her Two Fingers and leave on her journey is: "This is farewell my dear. Tell Blaidd and Iji I love them." It could be argued that Iji betrays Blaidd by locking him away, but even then he refuses to kill him outright. (At that point Ranni is still in her slumber and it is clear when she awakes and leaves that she has no knowledge of the fact that Iji had locked him away. It was done behind her back, and it is well after this that she requests you to tell them that she loves them.) And then Iji expresses regret for locking Blaidd away when it is revealed that he had remained loyal to Ranni even in his madness. And if you, the Tarnished, decide to kill Blaidd, then Iji, overcome with guilt at his misjudgement, allows himself to be killed by the Black Knife Assassins (who are seeking revenge on Ranni for stealing the Fingerslayer Blade from Nokron). And as far as saving Blaidd, he was both created by and given to Ranni by her Two Fingers. So it stands to reason that, if it is even possible to save him at all, the only way to do so would be to slay Ranni's Two Fingers as well as the Greater Will itself. Which is exactly what Ranni intends to do. It's what her entire questline is all about. So the fact of the matter is that the only one who truly betrays Blaidd is you, the Tarnished, if you choose to kill him in cold blood rather than allow him to live on believing in his madness that he is still guarding Ranni and hope that when you and Ranni finally slay the Greater Will that he will be freed from its influence. And finally let's not ignore the incredibly audacious example of virtue signaling by criticizing Ranni for having "used and sacrificed people like tools to obtain" her agenda when you, the Tarnished, do exactly the same thing throughout your entire journey. Not to mention the wholesale genocide of all living things in the Lands Between committed by the tarnished if you choose the Lord of Chaos ending. Meanwhile the Age of Stars ending, in my interpretation, is meant to grant self determination to the people of the Lands Between by freeing them from the influence of the Outer Gods.
@artjackal6820
@artjackal6820 Жыл бұрын
@@eliastardust To sacrifice someone or something is to give that something or someone [blaidd] up for something else [her new order]. Once the game, specifically Iji, tells us what Blaidd will do if she continues to resist the two fingers, one can come to the reasonable conclusion that she, and I do agree that by extension, us, the tarnished, are sacrificing and betraying Blaidd for her New Order by continuing on her quest. The game wouldn't really need to spell that out for us, the audience, to pass that judgment on her. Instead of stopping to think of a way to save Blaidd from his fate (we're given no indication that she's attempted); which funny enough, denying one's fate is a tackled theme in her quest line (as well as in the game as a whole)- she practically let's him succumb to his fate of going mad. It's also implied in her dialogue where she calls him a failure and commends him for remaining an ally that she was likely going to let him go feral back when she first began to defy her fate against the two fingers. She was likely surprised to find that Blaidd was able to resist but I doubt that she wasn't aware of the ticking-timb bomb that was in her service. I do believe, since he's born of the two fingers, not much would save him. We're not given too much information in how the greater will's influence works on shadows. For all we know, killing the greater will would just kill Blaidd or if his sanity slippage would be permanent. Who knows. However, I'm still upset that we weren't allowed to attempt anything. For instance, Iji's helmet is said to resist or ward off the greater will's influence. Players can find one just like it traversing Liurnia. Would have been nice to have been able to give it to him to see if it could work. So, in the criticism for virtual signaling, you agree that she's done the same thing we've done to achieve her goals [use and sacrifice people like tools]? So then yeah, we agree she used and sacrificed Blaidd, granted we, the tarnished, helped in the betrayal (unknowingly or knowingly depending on if the player found Blaidd trapped in the gaol and got Iji to reveal more info). Doesn't matter what we, the tarnished, has done up 'till that point. We'd still be allowed to pass that judgment; not like it'd do any good considering she's the Lands between one way ticket to not being an Outer God's playground. All that being said... I still think her ending is pretty much the only ending in which everyone is better off, according to the Japanese translation, so that's usually is the ending I go for despite my... lack of fondness for her betrayal. After all, the Lands Between is seemingly much better off without any outer god influence.
