"Protect them...." Yep. I'll attest to that. When I visited HERD in July 2022, while feeding snacks to Sebakwe, Somopane and Jabulani, we (guests) could hear lions roaring in the distance...... the not so distant distance. I was frightened! But the Carer told me that I need not fear - even though the lion roars sounded so close - as if the lions were across the street! The Carer told us that the lions knew better than to come near the big bulls. The bulls knew to protect the humans from the lions as well as the other elephants! Thank you Sebakwe! Somopane! and Jabulani!!!!

Nothing could be better than seeing Sebakwe, Somopane, and Fishan on this day they all represent! Sebakwe with his enormous strength, Somopane with his incredible intelligence, and Fishan with his pure dedication and love of the babies of the herd.. they all share the same protection, guidance, and love to each one of this special herd! They are depended on, and deeply loved by all. The carers are no different... but these carers at herd all have sacrificed themselves in one way or another to protect this beautiful, blended family! I forgot how "pink" our princess was when she was so small. Her hide is now darker and she has grown into a confident young female who I have no doubt will be a leader. Thank you for acknowledging that while mothers and mother figures are important we all need our Fathers and farther figures too to thrive in this world. I was still a teenager when my much loved father died of cancer and my eldest brother took on the roll of father to me even though he didn't do so for our five other siblings. I was very blessed to have his love care and protection until his death in 2019 also from cancer. Now I am being cared for by our younger brother who is adept at helping me do as much as I am able to do whilst respecting the health issues and disabilities life brings. My father, uncles, brothers, nephews and friends have been just as essential to my life as my female relatives. God in His wisdom created men And women because both are precious!
