Imma take a gander at explaining: A song is appropriate when you couldn't take it away without massively rewriting the scene. For example, if you took out Derby Racers, you'd have to actually write the race in a much less entertaining manner, and the episode would be also longer, most likely. If you took out, for example, We're Not Flawless, you'd just have to write actual dialogue instead of dodgy rhetoric. And the episode would be far shorter. If you took out It's Gonna Work, you'd have to somehow make a time-lapse of them talking to the owners and remaking the place/spreading the news. And it'd be less entertaining. But if you took out the song in this episode, you'd most likely just have to write dialogue instead of inspirational bullshit. And, again, it'd be shorter. Though, a personal rule of mine is that if it's a comedy, then a funny song shouldn't be taken out. I'm not sure Lily would agree, but I prioritize funny over plot-moving in comedy songs. Like Slow Motion from crazy ex girlfriend; it makes a short walk ten times longer, but it's so absurdly funny and parodic of those weird slow motion moments in movies, I would hiss if someone said it should've been taken out. (My personal favorite line is "Don't talk to us, we're in slow motion"~)

For me and my understanding of cultural appropriation seems to land on a far edging Spectrum that being cultural appreciation which has to do with very positive lighting and admiration for whatever culture one takes interest in and cultural appropriation which is very negative input and such misleading ignorance that it becomes insulting but all this also leads to a middle ground of controversy normally center around costumes and how people interpret them and those who wear them when it comes to me being a cosplayer I normally dress in costumes that are peeling to the visual senses of a character that demonstrates close ties to a particular culture even if it's not something they're actually wearing in Canon light steampunk Victorian and ancient Chinese if they have any significant cultural inspiration I do so with loving admiration for I find it aesthetically pleasing it may not be 100% accurate and I may not understand or fully know the history behind it but anyone who sees me knows that I'm not some deviant who undermines other people's culture or have little to no Tack and just put on blackface without a shred of Shame it really is all in the name of Art and bringing life into a character through a different set of lenses that fits with their personality and characteristics
