I ran a support section (tools, maintenance equipment, etc.) while in Afghanistan with a South Korean helicopter unit next door to us. Their commander and a few of their higher-ups came over to tour our unit and stopped by my section. The commander himself told me that I had a well organized area and was impressed. He even gave me and my fellow workers a unit sticker and coin. I had never been so proud.

Given how K-pop is banned in North Korea this guy either would've tolerated what he heard, enjoyed it, or shot himself because I doubt even the most fanatical of North Korean troops wants to be "that guy who fired the first shot of a third world war" given how both sides have nuclear weapons or are protected by a country that has them (a lot of them).

K-Pop is actually popular in North Korea. People in North Korea use smuggled DVDs and USB drives containing South Korean popular culture contents despite the risk of severe punishment if they get caught. A North Korean can get punished even for using South Korean slang. But they still secretly watch the shows.

There is nothing can do. It is mandatory for the country to serve in the military. Because Korea has enemies everywhere, it has to serve in the military to protect its own country. In fact, even though the United States and the Soviet Union had to split Japan in half instead of the Korean Peninsula, the aftermath of World War II went to Korea. Is it because Korea became the first Japanese colony?

Not only K-pop stars but all Korean men are citizens and well-trained soldiers. In fact, a random, random draft in the middle of town can form a nearly perfect infantry unit in an hour. Not all Korean men are the best warriors, but basically they are basic soldiers who can handle AR-related rifles naturally and fire precisely with them. And within 24 hours, you can organize a tank pilot and various heavy weapon specialized soldiers. This is really possible.

Yea I heard the ROK troops in Vietman were legendary. SK is like the biggest success story for a country ever. Literally war torn and having next to nothing, relying extremely heavily on external aid in the 1960s to having the 6th most powerful military presence right now and successfully making their own 4.5 gen supersonic fighter jet (although this is with Lockheed Martin iirc so definitely not entirely domestic - this is why the KF-21 Boramae looks so similar to the F-22 Raptor which was also designed by Lockheed Martin). Still an incredible feat.

I never gave this info any real or historical weight(in manga you want your MC to be as likable as he can be, and I went with same mindset towards manhwa). During the Vietnam War, South Korean soldiers were the record holders for their ability to massacre unarmed women and children. If these VC had been so brave, why would have they dressed as a villager and sneaky attack on Korean, American and South Vietnamese force at the midnight? Why don't you fight at front? There were violent riots in Los Angeles, California during the 1990's. During the riots, our police were defending rich people, and allowing the rest of the city to fall into chaos. Your people were abandoned. The Korean section of town formed a strong militia to defend businesses against thugs. You fortified rooftops and sent squads on rescue missions. Your area of town was saved because of your people's strength. It's super cool.

New K2C1 rifles have replaced K2s a few years ago from what I heard(at least in the front area). The original K2s are being pushed to the rear replacing the remaining m16a1s there. (K2C1s are basically K2s with picatinny rails and adjustable stock) At 7:59 in the video, you said that the army is divided into 3 components. That may be right 3 years ago. Currently the army is divided into 2 groups; 1st Ground Command defending the DMZ and 2nd Ground Command managing the rest of peninsula.

Actually, K3 LMG is often called as K3 'bolt-action' LMG among ROKA soldiers because its ridiculous unreliability makes it uncapable for automatic fire. Exported versions are mostly reliable, modified version of K3 LMG. But still there are great amount of 'bolt-action' types of the LMG in service in ROKA.

To tell the truth, until now, a few retired ex-KPOP idols or Korean entertainers used to enter military service such as Marine, Ranger, and SF soldiers in the Korean army these days. But not all entertainers & K-POP artists entered the Korean army as SF troopers. South Korea's social vibes are so strict that all POP stars & famous entertainers should join their army service and it does not have any exceptional ones. Some two or three guys once wanted to be exempted unofficially from their military service but all of them were perfectly fucked up at the time. Because most raging Korean citizens wanted to punish all those guys, so they had to join military service instead of being prisoners. Recently, the famous K-POP artist BTS boys began to enter their military service, and the senior member Jin's role is to be an instructor to educate other trainee soldiers in his division.

Worth to mention are the economic policies that Park Chung-hee implemented first before starting the self-reliance programme, "Yulgok Plan". The export-oriented policies (for goods) and chaebol backing (for financing and implementation) allowed Korea to establish the necessary resources to start the military industry. The Yulgok Plan also covers the manufacturing of their own warships.

Correct, the Park presidency/dictatorship(?) also encouraged tech transfers, had a policy of loan guarantees and tax breaks for companies, which are factors contributing to the robust military-industrial complex of present-day South Korea. And prior to the Yulgok Plan, South Korea also ad an established shipping industry, notably that from Hyundai (Hyundai Heavy Industry/HHI).

I served in the South Korean Army up to the rank of First Lieutenant and was discharged in 2021. I continue to meet with my fellow soldiers whom I worked with when I return to my previous unit through annual reserve training. While the conditions for conscripted soldiers have been improving each year, the South Korean military is facing a new crisis. This includes an absolute shortage of manpower due to declining birth rates and a relative decrease in the support rate for junior officers, resulting in a shortage of small-scale commanders. It won't be easy to address this situation with unmanned surveillance and combat systems alone, but we will not give up. The democracy of South Korea is built on the sacrifices of many nations that helped us during the Korean War and the beliefs of our ancestors. We will fight to the end.

As someone who served as a platoon leader in Korea in 2021, the Korean military had enough patriotism and morale until the early 2010s, and they were great soldiers, but the Korean military these days is not as great as the video Most young people these days are into games and the Internet, so they don't have the strength and the spirit to be soldiers. The Korea's Ministry of National Defense has new weapons and equipment, but we've never seen or used it Supplies are used only for outdated equipment Some people even saw items used during the Korean War As such, patriotism and morale have fallen considerably due to gender conflicts and unfair treatment of soldiers in Korea, and training has been done roughly while carrying out absurdities against soldiers without experience in practice for a long time In fact, the military these days is like a long military camp

If anybody wants a visceral look at the horrors of the Korean war, watch a film called The Front Line (2011) it's one of the greatest war films I've ever seen and can stand amongst legendary films like Saving Private Ryan and others. In fact, it's that good, that I think the only films it doesn't surpass are that and All Quiet... But let's not debate the subjective nature of that. It really is an awesome film, that follows a Lt. who is tasked with finding a supposed traitor. Instead, he gets drawn into monotonous human wave attacks with huge amounts of death, and it makes you realise how massive that war actually was. Bigger than Afghan, Nam, and The current Ukraine one. Yet we don't really talk about it. The special effects are absolutely top notch, no expense has been spared, and I look forward to watching this again.

I was a tank crew(specialized in tank-driving and also licensed) for K-1 tank type when I was in ROKArmy. Tank crews have to be used to many types of guns Korean Army uses like K2 rifle(trained in Army Training Center, tank crews don’t use this), K1 submachine gun(loader use this), K6 heavy machine gun(originated from M2, it’s on top of the tank for commander), M60E2 and M60D(equipped in tank for gunner and loader), and K5 pistol - M1911 pistol(Commander, gunner, driver use this. Inside of tank is pretty narrow so cannot use K1 or K2). We were instructed to disassembly and assembly those guns frequently, sometimes our camp raised some competitions of handling those guns. I remember some techniques of them as time passes by.

General John Hodge who ran the American Military Government from 45-48 would not permit the ROK Army to possess tanks and artillery because Syngmun Rhee kept asking for the equipment and armor to invade the DPRK. In 1949 ROKA forces actually captured a small town north of the 38th parallel, but the primary mission of the ROKA and KNP from 46 to 49 was to suppress any and all popular uprisings in places like Cholla province and Cheju Island where tenant farmers and peasants were demanding land reform and labor protection.
