This film, excellent, is incredibly topical: lobbying, consulting firms that lead opinion like a puppet... and we see a Kerry daring to suggest removing the first amendment. But "you can't fool all the people all the time", as Abraham Lincoln said. Thank you for sharing and the discovery of this film I had never heard of.

Dana Andrews, what a fine, fine actor, he right up there with several others, as Fonda, Bogart, for sheer delight there is Jeanne Crane, Doris "Delightful" Day. Dana was great in here and though I do not grasp much of the workings of acting, I know what is very good and whenever I see these that I mentioned here, I find myself going for another viewing...there is so much to offer. Andrews in 1945, "Laura," a splendid, mystery film I have seen many times. The film never should have been done with anyone else in it later on. I see that as the casting perhaps cannot be changed with re-doing some stories. I hope I never see the day when Casablanca is redone! I wonder why, after mid 1930's through maybe 1960's we had such fine writing, in Hollywood, for the most part...but all at once, with rare exception, we get a dry spell with writers, nobody has a story to put on film. Thank you for posting an Andrews picture, thanks very much.

It's not that good stories and good writers weren't out there, but there had been a sea-change in Hollywood. It was no longer about an art and it's crafts. The incoming people were investors, businessmen who only cared about profits. They stopped hiring the good writers. They stopped paying for good scripts. They sold off all of the studio assets (costumes and props). They demolished all of the back lots and sold the land off to developers. They made the turn to AI and CGI to make money. Everything good became trashy garbage. Where did these awful, soul-less predators come from? They are like hyenas; scavengers for profits only. Like nothing else matters. They have made a mess out of all the hard work of multiple former generations. And they think they are hot stuff. Yuk.

At 80 years now, liking good/great stories put to film...it must be difficult to make things as this one, Casablanca, Laura, (1945 issued one w/Andrews.) My knowing very little re film making I do believe a very big part is done by directors, working with such actors as these I refer to. Dana was in many films and however they did promote or show their great talents to the public, perhaps they held back on him...while they should have stayed close by him and done all it takes to mention him as they did what they often recognized as "big" acting stars. He was always a huge favorite of mine. Years ago, when my smart and thoughtful mother went to a film showing, she hoped Dana was in it, or Henry Fonda.

The 1958 film "The Fearmakers" is a film noir crime movie directed by Jacques Tourneur. Reviews of the movie often highlight its intriguing plot, which revolves around communist infiltrators trying to manipulate public opinion in the United States through a public relations firm. Many reviewers note the eerie atmosphere of the film and its prophetic themes, as it touches on issues that are still relevant today, such as political manipulation and the use of statistical inference to shape public opinion. The film stars Dana Andrews as a Korean War veteran who returns to Washington D.C. and discovers that his business partner has died and their public-research business has been sold. He goes undercover to uncover the truth behind the sale and uncovers a communist plot to influence public opinion. Overall, reviews of "The Fearmakers" are generally positive, praising the film's atmosphere, themes, and acting performances, particularly that of Dana Andrews. VIA PI

@@mickeybitsko1676 Very far right ? via PI McCarthyism and the Red Scare were highly toxic phenomena that had a significant impact on American society and politics in the mid-20th century. Senator Joe McCarthy, who was a central figure in this movement, used fear and paranoia to promote anti-communist hysteria, often making unfounded accusations and using bullying tactics to silence dissent. While McCarthyism was ostensibly about protecting the country from communist threats, in practice it was used to suppress political dissent, target left-wing activists and organizations, and undermine civil liberties. Many individuals and groups were accused of being communist sympathizers, even if they had no real connection to communism, and many were blacklisted, harassed, or even imprisoned as a result. The toxic legacy of McCarthyism and the Red Scare continues to be felt today, as it created a culture of fear and mistrust that has shaped American politics and society in profound ways.

Funny to see the excellent 1950's-1960's singer Mel Tormé here in the movie with his very carateristic voice.... He did a great job ! Interesting movie when it comes to the political situation in the 1950's, McCarthy is gone and drank himself to death, movies appeared in the meantime swinging the pendulum back to the middle of the politcal spectrum, think Bette Davis in Storm Center, 1956, which is trying to show anti communism at one time overdid it completely, getting so out of hand (McCarthy attacking the Armed Forces) fascism slowly but surely came into mind. Think Hoover, and I don't mean the vacuum cleaners.
