We did the same thing in our chicken coop. My husband build it. Cause we work full time, and it makes things easy. I had so many comments that the mice would come in and stuff, but it’s been working for us great.
@MadAcreFarms2 жыл бұрын
Definitely a great investment for us! Awesome you guys were able to build it! These feeders definitely keep down the mice and small bird issues we were having. Thank you for watching!

That’s a nice feeder. Looks like it is quality. PVC pipe for the oyster shell works great. Like an upside down candy cane with a cap on the top. Or switch to poultry calcium (cheaper and finer). Excellent video and the concerns you raise about the birds learning how to work the feeder is real!

Thank you Lisa! Appreciate you more than you know😊! Definitely going to have to try that PVC feeder! I am going to check out your DIY feeder video!

You two are doing great and you’re real. I don’t have acres (3, bedroom rancher, 1/4 acre give or take), and I still, have an unfinished list of to do’s for the same reasons, I’m by myself though & @ 68, I don’t recuperate so fast. Still, hoping for @ least 5, acres (bucket list), plus I’m learning as I go, don’t have the mechanical, carpentry skill experience, doing the best I can- know how is a big obstacle, wish I had help.😕 Anyway, enjoy your post, informative and easy to follow. Thanks, from Virginia.

Virginia, thank you for the kind words and for watching our videos. You one day will have that 5 acres. A positive step each day towards your will get you there. Thank you!

Nice feeder. The chickens are smart. What are you thoughts of using grounded egg shells? 🥚
@MadAcreFarms2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! That is a great idea as a supplement! We have been grinding up our current egg shells for the worms but that would work for the chickens too!!

We go through so much chicken feed and it is mostly wheat that we have grown. The small birds can eat from any old open bin and yet they get into the coop. Grrr. Also, I’m a little jelly, I can’t put stuff together to save my life! The way that works is sooo cool! Birds are super curious, surprisingly. Take care, 🌺
@MadAcreFarms2 жыл бұрын
Yes! We had such an issue with birds in the coop! This has helped a lot! Lol! The feeder came mostly together so not too bad assembling it😂! That is awesome you guys grow your own food for the birds! Hoping we can get to that level one day! Thank you for watching!

Do they make a big, big one? I'd need something huge with almost 50 girls. I hate the mice issue but our girls are good hunters!
@MadAcreFarms2 жыл бұрын
They do make bigger ones but they are spendy! They do work well though!

Great video. I have 1 treadle feeder which has helped with keeping mice out but some of the chickens refuse to stand on the platform.
@MadAcreFarms2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! That was definitely one of my concerns but we fortunately haven’t had that issue yet here!

I see you feed pellets. Will that feeder work with sunflower seeds and cracked corn? Great info Jamie thanks.
@MadAcreFarms2 жыл бұрын
Hey Jilly! Yeah the feeder will work for that! Just the oyster shells gum it up because it gets a little chalky!

Come through Jamie with the assembly skills! 🪛🔧Corey helps me assemble everything even though he can't see since he's got the technical mind. Yay, the chickens are figuring it out too 🐓

Thanks for video, how did you secure the split pin into the hinge pin in step 5?
@MadAcreFarms Жыл бұрын
@greentrumpet-qc9rn not sure if you got it figured out but we threaded the clip through the pin then split it around the pin after we threaded it through. Hope this answers your question!
