I have watched season 1 a dozen times trying to get a real timeline of the events. I was like you at first it really felt rushed but then I started watching the phones and anything else that might help with the timeline. There is a difference between the comics and the show.

@ Phones!! Will check the dates from now on. Very good idea.

I think the long rugby scene showed many key points. you had Charlie trying to tackle to show Nick he will do anything to impress him, you had the two friends groups clearly divided watching the game, you had Nick not helping Charlie while people were watching because they agreed to keep this a secret and you had a very funny bit that unless you have subtitles on you will miss where Tao says “does anyone remember the rules of rugby because I don’t” and they all say no apart from Issac who says yes because he is reading an autobiography of Gareth Thomas who is a famous rugby player here in the UK who came out as gay. Loving your reactions x

Over the course of the three seasons two of my favorite things are the development of Imogen and Isaac. Heartstopper respects its characters.

I cannot wait to finally meet them. But I somehow feel like I won't until season 2...

Tao is one of my favourite characters, and any episode where he's dancing is a good episode. The first time I watched Heartstopper I just saw him as comic relief ("I was going to say I'll send him a strongly worded DM, but murder is fine too.") but he grows on me each time. He is very protective of Charlie and doesn't know everything we the audience knows, so he is coming from a good place. If you're curious about Isaac, pay attention to what he's reading. It's often a comment on the action. Last episode for example during the rugby match he was reading the autobiography of a gay rugby player.

When Nick and Imogen had their talk about their real personality being buried and only doing things because their friends expected a certain behavior, I think Imogen was thinking about how that was true for her also and not necessarily connecting it with Nick being gay.
@Cine_CuriousКүн бұрын
That's the question, right? I don't know yet, but having watched episode 6, Nick is telling everyone and their Mum by now, so maybe Imogen will hear from someone else... haha
@davidjolly3958Күн бұрын
The character of Imogen main objective in season 1 was to add some extra drama to the story in the story of Nick and Charlies. She has defiantly done that. Alice ended up really liking the character and the way the actress played her so well, she kept in the show.
@Cine_CuriousКүн бұрын
@@davidjolly3958Oh, that makes sense. You see that so often in a series, where side characters become returning ones. Looking forward to her progression. ❤

Re Tau and the bathroom scene, Tau is also very protective of Charlie, and thinks of Nic and his friend group as being the bullies that hurt Charlie the year before, as he mentioned when Charlie joined the football team, and he is only seeing things from his own perspective, nit just because of his own issues. Even though his timing is perhaps off, he comes from a place of caring. I think another important moment is the hug Nic gives Charlie after the bathroom scene, expressing his gratitude to Charlie for not outing him to Tau (He's my 'friend'). I don't think even Charlie knew the context there, he was just happy having a Nic hug 😊 Loving your reactions guys 😊
@Cine_CuriousКүн бұрын
@@pwph8361 thank you for bringing this up! I don’t think Tao comes from a mean place, but sometimes you have to learn when to address something and value other people’s emotions as much as yours. I don’t think he always does that. The hug. The hug! That was so sweet. And you are right, Charlie had no idea!
@joanapereira8011Күн бұрын
So in the comics, the focus is almost completely on Nick and Charlie, just FYI. This story is very much about Nick and Charlie and their relationship as well as their personal struggles and development. Isaac replaces a character that exists in the comics which for various reasons wasn't included in the show, and Imogen doesn't exist in the comics at all. We also never really see any scenes of the friends without nick and Charlie in the comics as everything is usually from the perspective of one of them. So while these friends may seem like they're not getting enough screen time or development, they actually get a lot more than in the comics. In the comics you only really know very basic things about them from what is mentioned in scenes with Nick and Charlie.

I see. So this is another source vs adaptation discussion. I really hope to see more episodes like 5 & 6, because this is a beautiful world they are building. And the characters interact so naturally. Let me know in the future, which storylines are written for the show, please. It must have been a challenge to come up with all the connecting backstories or even characters. How do you feel about the new characters? Spoiler free, please. :) Do you think it was a wise choice to include them?
@joanapereira8011Күн бұрын
@Cine_Curious yeah, I personally think the adaptation is done perfectly and only expands and improves the universe (the comics are written and drawn by Alice who also writes the show completely by herself and she's also very very involved with every detail of the show which probably helps!). I think most of the storylines are more or less also in the comics, except for the ones that involve Imogen and Isaac (no spoilers!) since they don't exist in the comics. I like both of those characters and think they were great additions to the show (don't worry no one likes Imogen much at first, she grows on you haha). But I definitely care about Nick and Charlie the most so I think the show has a good balance of giving us more of the other characters than the comics ever did while never taking too much time away from N+C, who are and should be the main focus

All I can do is say wait patiently for Isaac. It’s a super slow build but the payoff in S3 is really worth it. In the meantime he is representation for bookworms everywhere. Who, even if we have rich inner lives, desperately need friends too. Still loving your reactions very much. Don’t we all just glow with warm happy light in our chests with happiness for Charlie and Nick when they kiss? This show is so full of compersion.

It is a little understandable at this point why Tao is so protective of Charlie. Remember Charlie was bullied during his last school year by year 11 students. Nick is a year 11 students and is on the rugby team with some of the boys that bullied Charlie. So at this point Tao is having a very hard time of separating Nick from that group. He’s very suspicious of Nick and doesn’t want to see Charlie get hurt again.
@Cine_CuriousКүн бұрын
I can see that pov. At the same time I think it’s important to trust your friends - especially your inner inner circle - enough to decide for themselves. I don’t like every new friend or partner my gang brings home, but I know they are smart and good people and are able to make their own decisions. Yesyes, I know. 40 yo vs 15 yo. I know. 😂😂😂

I would have loved to see the emotional content in Marvel shows for example. Think Loki. Yeah, we gotta save time and space itself, but also, I am in love. :) Apart from that, i love Heartstopper for the simplicity in itself. The raw feelings and emotions, the pure characters.

I'm loving your comments! I really love this show and especially enjoy seeing someone dive into it for the first time. I also love that your analyses are much deeper in terms of character development and motivation. I was going to comment earlier about how quickly we got to the N&C kiss, and I think the fact that it's only 8 episodes, each 30 minutes long, makes everything move pretty fast if we want to reach the point we do by the end of the season. Since there was no confirmation of more seasons when it was filmed, the ending of S1 makes sense, and the confirmation of both S2 & S3 at the same time gave us more depth in the stories

Alice, the creator, has said that the character she relates to most is Isaac. He is definitely a minor character and not given his own story this season so the focus can stay on Nick and Charlie, but he’s not neglected, per se. He’s a very quiet, introverted, observant, conflict-averse, intellectual bookworm who uses books as armor in social settings. He’s so quiet for a reason, and Alice wrote the character with love.

The bathroom scene with Tau and Charlie was hard for me. I haven’t read the comics, so in my opinion Tau was overstepping. It took me watching all of season 2 & 3 to like his character again, because of how he acted in Season 1. But I guess I understand in a small way of how everyone says it was a place of caring.
