@TheInkMage2 ай бұрын
Nothing exists from or on nothing. She didn't just wake up one morning and began to spit. She obviously carved her niche from the influence exuded by others before and around her. Therefore, the comparison we/people make is simply birthed from that influence - it is the other side of that coin. You can't have one without the other. By the way, no one is disputing how good she is, though. ✌
@yodua81932 ай бұрын
@@TheInkMage that's not the point. Everyone is inspired and influenced by someone else, but calling someone a "female" or "indian" or "east coast" or whatever other thing makes it seem automatically like a bootleg version of someone else. "Female K dot" sounds like the only features in her music are similarities to kendrick and the fact that she's a woman. The influence is DEFINITELY there and it's heavy but that's not all that's there. It's not the first time that happens, I remember the same thing happening to kendrick back in the day, it was and always be disrespectful because nobody likes being compared, even in a good way

You know what's crazy? This is the same artist that made "What it is hoe, what's up?" and it went viral on TikTok. And then she felt pressured by the industry to make pop hits and her fans were upset about it. Now she's coming back with her lyrical game on this mixtape. That's what she's trying to explain on the song Denial Is A River. The contrast between that TikTok song and this album is night and day. She's really so talented and versatile.

I saw an IG Live where she insinuated that her label isn't letting her do what she wants. She had an album that was nearly finished back in 2023 and there has been almost no info about it since she shared the tracklist. However, she was signed to TDE and Capitol Records (joint venture) and I wonder if it's the Capitol side that's causing the hold up. I'm pretty sure Capitol is the reason Kodak was featured on What It Is and why Doechii is about to do a feature on a Katy Perry song (Katy and Kodak are both Capitol artists).

I love you simply for pointing out the fact that people spend so much time engaging in content with artists they don't like!! That is what these companies look at. Engagement. Ever heard the saying "All press is good press." That is only true because we give energy and attention to what we like AND don't like. So as a DJ myself who gets requests of all types...it does not make sense to complain about ice spice, carti, sexy red etc. When artists like Doechii exist. I been spinning Doechii for most of my career now and people are just catching on. This girl can do everything but people are too busy engaging with trash instead of finding what they really like.

Fuck it, I'll leave another comment for the algorithm. This mixtape is fantastic to me--I've been a Doechii fan for a minute, and there were a couple moments where I felt like things were getting a little sketchy bc she was moving away from some of the stuff I really fell in love with her for. But this feels like a return to form for me in the best way. It's got the creativity, humor, and introspectiveness that really makes her pop to me. Also, I'm not worried about her ability to make a hit at all. The big thing that's held her back somewhat as far as chart success goes has been that she's more alt than a lot of the other feMCs out there, so her audience is more limited--she's more of a Rico than a Megan (not a diss to either of them, to be clear). It's one thing to get people to take you seriously as a feMC, another thing entirely as a dark feMC, and even worse as a dark alt feMC. But like... she's made it this far. I hope she makes it big and blazes a trail for other female rappers going forward, she's really got what it takes.

Doechii is definitely one of the best lyricists and performers out right now! Can’t pick a favorite but standouts Nissan Ultimate, GTFO, Denial Is a River, & Slide!

I'm here for it!! Finally a Queeen with some quality 🔥💰 After she dropped "Stressed" in '22 and got word she was on TDE. Been highly anticipated, on my end. Salute 🫡

So glad you're reacting to Doechii. THIS is Doechii! Also, 25 Lighters is a song by DJ DMD & Lil Keke, later chopped & screwed by DJ Screw, which was sampled on Skipp. Dot referenced Lil Keke the Don. Houstonian here 😅🤘🏾

Thank you for this, for fighting the algorithm madness and the general masses' short attention spans 😅. You were hilarious as usual, and I love the positive messaging around female mcs. She really is versatile and curious, and we, as music lovers, should honor that when we find it. 🙏❤️🐊

This album was a treat. Right when I felt like it the year was slowing down for good music.
