Roman Catechism of the Council of Trent The Duties of Married People The more easily to preserve the holy state (of marriage) from dissensions, the duties of husband and wife as inculcated by St. Paul and by the Prince of the Apostles must be explained. Duties Of A Husband It is the duty of the husband to treat his wife generously and honourably. It should not be forgotten that Eve was called by Adam his companion. The woman, he says, whom thou gavest me as a companion. Hence it was, according to the opinion of some of the holy Fathers, that she was formed not from the feet but from the side of man; as, on the other hand, she was not formed from his head, in order to give her to understand that it was not hers to command but to obey her husband. The husband should also be constantly occupied in some honest pursuit with a view to provide necessaries for the support of his family and to avoid idleness, the root of almost every vice. He is also to keep all his family in order, to correct their morals, and see that they faithfully discharge their duties. Duties Of A Wife On the other hand, the duties of a wife are thus summed up by the Prince of the Apostles: Let wives be subject to their husbands. that if any believe not the word, they may be won without the word by the conversation of the wives, considering your chaste conversation with fear. Let not their adorning be the outward plaiting of the hair, or the wearing of gold, or the putting on of apparel: but the hidden man of the heart in the incorruptibility of a quiet and meek spirit, which is rich in the sight of God. For after this manner heretofore the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands, as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him Lord. To train their children in the practice of virtue and to pay particular attention to their domestic concerns should also be especial objects of their attention. The wife should love to remain at home, unless compelled by necessity to go out; and she should never presume to leave home without her husband's consent. Again, and in this the conjugal union chiefly consists, let wives never forget that next to God they are to love their husbands, to esteem them above all others, yielding to them in all things not inconsistent with Christian piety, a willing and ready obedience. Ben Sira 26:1-3,16-19,24 [1]HAPPY is the husband of a good wife: for the number of his years is double. [2]A virtuous woman rejoiceth her husband: and shall fulfil the years of his life in peace. [3]A good wife is a good portion, she shall be given in the portion of them that fear God, to a man for his good deeds. [16]The grace of a diligent woman shall delight her husband, and shall fat his bones. [17]Her discipline is the gift of God. [18]Such is a wise and silent woman, and there is nothing so much worth as a well instructed soul. [19]A holy and shamefaced woman is grace upon grace. [24]As everlasting foundations upon a solid rock, so the commandments of God In the heart of a holy woman. 1 Timothy 2:9-14 [9]In like manner, women also in decent apparel: adorning themselves with modesty and sobriety, not with plaited hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly attire: [10]But, as it becometh women professing godliness, with good works. [11]Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. [12]But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to use authority over the man: but to be in silence. [13]Adam was first formed; then Eve. [14]And Adam was not seduced; but the woman, being seduced, was in the transgression. 1 Timothy 3:4-5,11 [4]One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all chastity. [5]But if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God? [11]The women in like manner: chaste, not slanderers, but sober, faithful in all things. 1 Corinthians 11:3,7-9 [3]But I would have you know that the head of every man is Christ: and the head of the woman is the man: and the head of Christ is God. [7]The man indeed ought not to cover his head: because he is the image and glory of God. But the woman is the glory of the man. [8]For the man is not of the woman: but the woman of the man. [9]For the man was not created for the woman: but the woman for the man. Titus 2:3-5,9 [3]The aged women, in like manner, in holy attire, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teaching well: [4]That they may teach the young women to be wise, to love their husbands, to love their children. [5]To be discreet, chaste, sober, having a care of the house, gentle, obedient to their husbands: that the word of God be not blasphemed. [9]Exhort servants to be obedient to their masters: in all things pleasing, not gainsaying: 1 Peter 3:1-7 [1]In like manner also, let wives be subject to their husbands: that, if any believe not the word, they may be won without the word, by the conversation of the wives, [2]Considering your chaste conversation with fear. [3]Whose adorning, let it not be the outward plaiting of the hair, or the wearing of gold, or the putting on of apparel: [4]But the hidden man of the heart, in the incorruptibility of a quiet and a meek spirit which is rich in the sight of God. [5]For after this manner heretofore, the holy women also who trusted in God adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands: [6]As Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters you are, doing well and not fearing any disturbance. [7]Ye husbands, likewise dwelling with them according to knowledge, giving honour to the female as to the weaker vessel and as to the co-heirs of the grace of life: that your prayers be not hindered. Ephesians 5:22-24,33 [22]Let women be subject to their husbands, as to the Lord: [23]Because the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ is the head of the church. He is the saviour of his body. [24]Therefore as the church is subject to Christ: so also let the wives be to their husbands in all things. [33]Nevertheless, let every one of you in particular love for his wife as himself: And let the wife fear her husband. Colossians 3:18-21 [18]Wives, be subject to your husbands, as it behoveth in the Lord. [19]Husbands, love your wives and be not bitter towards them. [20]Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing to the Lord. [21]Fathers, provoke not your children to indignation, lest they be discouraged.

Women can work outside the home. Look at St Gianna. We need women outside of the home to spread spiritual motherhood into many environments

wrong. what the heck does "spread spiritual motherhood" mean? and why? and to whom? spiritual motherhood = feminism. we certainly don't need more of THAT garbage

@@leaverus Hope if you are ever sick you are coherent enough to patiently wait until a male nurse can help you. Considering 80% of healthcare workers are women, you might have to wait for a while before the probably only male nurse working at that specialty can help you, but it would be rather hypocrytical to criticize working women while beneffiting from their work outside the home, don't you think so? Women can't be at home and at hospitals at the same time, so if you think they are doing something wrong by being there, beneffiting from someone's wrong is sinful. And that applies to anything, really, if you are against women working outside the home, do not beneffit from their jobs in any way. Wait for a male waiter, if you get into a pharmacy and the person in charge is a woman, go to another one, don't attend classes if the teacher or lecturer is a woman, and so forth. Practice what you preach, or don't criticize women for working outside the house when you are actually benefitting from it. Spiritual motherhood means treating others with maternal care and nurturing instinct, even if they are not your children. STEM Catholic girl here, btw.

Jesus Christ never called Mary mother he called her woman. In Luke 2:24, if Mary had to offer two turtle doves/pigeons, one for a sin offering then that would prove Mary wasn’t sinless right? 24. and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the law of the Lord, “A pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.” Leviticus 12:8. And if she is not able to bring a lamb, then she may bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons-one as a burnt offering and the other as a sin offering. So the priest shall make atonement for her, and she will be clean.

WRONG. You don't know what Jesus called His mother at other times that were not recorded in the Bible, especially before Jesus started His public life. Read John 21:25 WRONG AGAIN. Mary was sinless.

Women can do any career they want but she has to prioritise her family over career .Like if she puts career over her husband and kids like feminism says that isn’t Catholic.
@MySchoolProject15

Okay but like, same for men though. The people in our life that we care for, especially any children we brought into this world and a spouse whom we vowed to always be there for, obviously have to come first over any job. I'd be furious if my husband prioritized his career over me because I'm more important than his job. The point of any profession is twofold: to contribute to the building-up of society and to support one's family and oneself. If a job fails to accomplish either of those goals then one should resign and get a new job. The dad who works eighty hours a week and never makes it to his kid's recitals and baseball games, not because he has to but because he wants to be rich or admired by his colleagues, is no better of a parent than a mom who prioritizes her career over her kids. (Also "feminism" isn't just one thing; there's many different waves and sub-varieties, some of them completely compatible with Catholicism and some of them directly antithetical to it.)

@soccerlife5041 Feminism does NOT tell women to put her career over her husband and kids, you liar. Stop lying, you #misogynist. And husbands and fathers should NOT put their careers over their wives and children.

@soccerlife5041 False. Feminism does NOT say that wives should put career ahead of family. Catholics blame women/feminism, so they can exonerate men.

@@francikoen Please don’t lump all of us in with OP. Some feminists do say women should prioritize their career over their loved ones, but you don’t want us to lump the entire feminist movement in with them, right? Same with us.
