The Fence Has To Go.... - Episode 46

Following on from painting the walls, we... continue painting the walls! Also made the spot decision to break down some fences!
Morrigan's Cottage is a 200 year old traditional stone cottage set in the west of Ireland on just under 4 acres. Originally this house would have been used by the local farmers, rented from their British landlords. Dated back to at least the early 1800s, someone has been consistently living here and farming this land since then, up until about 4 years ago when the house was left vacant by the previous owners.

It really is nice with the white but why not uses a Masonry roller save you so much back breaking effort. I can see in my head the look of this cottage in the future you have great ideas for sure. The removing of a section of the fence was a really good idea and you cruised through that one. Hello how are you keeping? I feel like the last couple of weekends at the house have been really busy and a lot has been accomplished, so I'm glad that's translating well into the videos - not much is really being done but at the same time I think suddenly we're moving really fast with things! Hopefully the next couple months of videos will really start to show the progress with the house! Omg I was so proud of my tan, I actually ended up getting burnt this past weekend so I must remember my sun tan, but I'm famously pale so to see a little colour is lovely lol

Seeing your living room fireplace and all I can imagine is the winter with that lit, big rug and cushions on the floor,fur babies playing around, big cup of hot chocolate, rain pouring down, and that view!! ❤❤❤ like I said before I’m not jealous at all 😂😂. House is coming along just lovely ❤ xxxx

Omg stop, the living room is the room that immediately sold the house to me! The fire place has to be replaced, so there will be a new and slightly smaller stove in there but ideally the layout will be the same - tbh my vision for Christmas is just like your comment with decorations and trees everywhere ❤️

I did consider keeping them but yo be totally honest there’s just so much going on with the house and garden at the moment that I just don’t have the time to give it to learn what I need to learn and everything - I will in the future have bees but they just made theirselves at home a year too soon for me 🥲 I can definitely do a Q&A in the future if there’s questions :) I’ll put up a post today and if anyone has questions they can pop them there :D hope you have a lovely rest of your weekend ❤️

Ah thank you! Morri is the most lovely little pup (I’m biased 😂)! They did seem to be taking in all the houses and local beauty so I should have told them 😂 I was more surprised to see anyone other than the neighbours walking by, were very much off the beaten track!

Hi Aisling, I think your newly painted wall is a huge improvement, it will make the property look smart when the house is also painted and hasn't your grass greened up nicely. The gap in the fence has certainly opened things up, all good! With all that fantastic space you have the possibilities are endless, it's great and you're doing just fine.😊

The neighbours also seem to like the white so that’s good too as they look at it more than me! The grass does seem to be greening up which is so a relief, some brown spots still but it’s getting there!

She definitely makes sure to keep an eye on me, and she’s very good for checking in - when she was just a tiny pup and I’d only had her like a week, a lady I used to work with who trains and breeds dogs said that baby Morri was very attached to me already so we’ve always just been super close and bonded ❤️

The white looks great! Loving the improvements. The fence is great as well, especially for mowing. I think you should keep the bees, not in the walls of course, but on the land! They will make you lovely honey.

I would love to keep the bees but just don’t think I have that mental and time capacity at the moment with everything else going on, but it’s definitely in the plans for the future!

I think the wall looks great white, and the gap in the fence is a brilliant idea! It means you're looking more at the view than the fence. I love the huge sky views you get looking South from the cottage. I grew up in a very flat part of Yorkshire and loved the big skies and being able to see for miles. Lovely to see Morri and Bainne playing 😸

It looks stunning there! I’m very lucky with the skies here, and the slight downward slope of the land means I can see the views for miles! The girls have settled in so well, it’s so nice to see them playing again, they don’t play at my parents house so it’s nice to seen them have the room here!

I love the white. Not sure your budget allows but a paint sprayer or at least a bigger brush or roller would speed things up. But I also understand we use what we have/can afford.

It was fun watching the fur babies play. Ya just have to wonder about tourist and how they manage to get way out where you are. 🤪🤪no boundaries for some people.take care. Put on some sunscreen when you're working out in the sun. You got a sunburn. When I was younger I used to put baby oil on myself and sit in the sun for hours. Didn't realize I was just cooking myself 😂 I also got skin cancer from it many years later! Better safe than sorry .😊💚

Oh gosh I hope you’re all better now though! I know I’m terrible I need to remember to put sun screen on, I totally forgot again this weekend and have a small burning on my arms! I just don’t usually spend much time outside so I always forget!!

I have to say it’s killing me to watch you painting an exterior wall with a 2” paint brush. You’ll get thru it so much faster with the right tools. Looks good though ✌️💚

New day and the white fence still looks good. I hear you on sunglasses, i wear them most of the year because the glare from reflected light is as bad as direct light 😂😎 reflected from the paint is prob same. Pruning saw on the fence? I'm impressed. I love the hole in the fence, nice a practical. Keeping the rest of the fence line there to grow vines along could be nice and that could separate your house garden from fire pit area?

I’m glad you like the white fence! Definitely starting to look better now! I tried to use a regular saw but just couldn’t get it right so pruning saw did the trick 😂

Just wondering why you were using such a small brush to paint? Was it because of the texture of the wall? My brain always wants me to use the biggest brush/ roller I can to get the job done quicker. 😂 Perhaps I’m missing the point and it’s all part of slow living. 👍

To be honest it was the only brush I could find 😂 and I was too lazy to drive into town and get a new roller - mine wouldn’t work the roller part seems to be jammed!

Thank you! I think so do, I’m thinking the house will also be the white and blue, but it depends on if I expose the stone or not - in two minds about it to be honest! And I think a black gate would be so nice too!

Only because you appreciate opinions and because we chatted recently about detracting from the steel bar area of the fence with some pretty clematis toppling over it, I suggest that keeping the entire fence all white - no trim color - trim color will negatively draw attention to the fence. New hole in wood fence makes total sense for lawnmowing. Furbabes will sometimes play fight, too cute - Morri looks back at you like she's saying "Save me Mommy."
