40 years as a Ferrari mechanic and hands down the 288 is my favorite car for the street. The 288 is so much fun, very forgiving and easy to drive. Having thousands of mile of seat time in 288's is one of my fondest memories, the only complain would be that the seat gets uncomfortable after a couple hours. Love these cars so much, seeing one brings back so many good times...

Harry Metcalfe recently had a go at a 288 GTO as well and deeply regreted not buying one back when he had the chance in the 2003-2005 era. He bought a Zonda instead and got to be on Horacios inner circle list, but today he regrets not owning a 288 GTO and cannot afford one today.

Alain is a great presenter and the 288 GTO is a magical machine. I never thought I'd see someone flogging a GTO on damp roads in the fog. I'll bet when the drone operator saw that last shot, a tear came to his eye. Such a wonderful video in every way.

Before Chris Harris, there was Alain de Cadenet. His Victory by Design series really made me grow up about appreciating cars. Before him, it was hp and torque. After the VbD series, I grew to appreciate the details, the engineering, and most of all the histories of models and makes, the quirks... Good to see he's still doing these drives and sharing his sentiments.

Missing Alain's great automotive contributions. Thanks for featuring him! It's uncanny that the turbos don't stifle the sound of that V8, but instead it has an outrageously great exhaust sound. It almost sounds like that was the sound chosen for Petrolicious' opening.
@goognamgoognw6637
@goognamgoognw6637 3 жыл бұрын
Honestly as a NA V8 owner, no turbo can match a naturally aspirated induction in sound, not even a GT0 288. The turbo changes the exotic rocket sound into more of an oversized tin can sound, although the V8 helps saving it. Today the V8 are replaced with puny i6 or V6 and the sound just sucks.

There is a millionaire guy from my hometown that owned a bunch of McDonald's restaurants that bought one of these--the 288 GTO. I saw it on the road a few times tooling about town--quite a sight driving down the city's main row where nothing more exotic than a Cadillac regularly had been. He also bought one of the first modern Studebaker Avantis that came off the line in Youngstown Ohio. I could only watch in awe and did not try to catch this thing that was so exotic in my anemic little Iron Duke Chevrolet Monza. It was fun to see. I have also seen a 512 Berlinetta up close also, owned by this little Italian man who was a mortician in my hometown--he was a motorhead who still owned his first car, a T-bucket hotrod with an Olds engine and an Offy intake--straight 1950s. I wish that 288 GTO was still around.

Alain de Cadenet could review a blender and I would watch the whole thing. Also, what a car. I don’t know what I like more, the exterior, interior, or the sound.

God this episode just ticks all the boxes! First the gorgeous drooling photography.....its so well shot, great choice/direction to shoot in the rain and fog. A super beautiful red Ferrari 288 GTO against the white snow.....Blown Away! ....Our host is so knowledgeable and passionate as well as great speaker....and the car itself....the last one made with Enzo still alive...... This is a episode i will watch again and again....and again! Hats off to the film makers.
