Other than the 250 GTO/B I personally think this is what caused most of us to have the love affair with this brand. Had been blessed with a lap joyride on track once and never forgot the sensation when the boost peaked just as the exhaust note cracked past the pranching (by then vibrating) horse in the tachometer! 🤯 Definitely F40LM on the dream garage list!!!!

If memory serves me right, there was supposed to be a Group B endurance track racing class, but sadly never made it. Ferrari never intended to compete in rallying. In the 80s, I do remember a few 308's competing in the European Rally Championship (as shown in the video), but these weren't works entries.

A curiosity, the first units manufactured of the F40, "between 20 and 25 units" have the same mechanical configuration as the 288 GTO EVO, more than 650hp and less than 1100kg, making these units go at more than 370km/h and doing 0-100km /h in less than 3s, and even the other units in their European versions have more power than declared by the factory!

Wrong about the top speed. F40 was the first street car to reach top speed of 201. What are you talking about. I have taken my F40 over 205 mph

I wouldn't get too sensitive about it. There's easily that much variation in the same car with changes in the weather and different altitudes between test runs. What I'd keep in mind is that any way you figure, it's a seriously fast car (solidly past 200mph!) and and awful lot of fun if you have a really fat wallet or maybe an especially generous friend. I got to sit in one for a few moments in a shop I used to work in, but the boss just laughed when I tried to look innocent and asked for the keys. He waved them in the air and put them back in his pocket!! 😏😮‍💨
