@@sunnycombo5275 I mean. Piastri was old enough but he had a contract with Alpine and they didn't have a seat. Russell was also old enough but Mercedes didn't have a seat but at least managed to organize an opportunity at another team, all be it at the time some what of a back marker, while they ran down Bottas' contract. Those two cases aren't really related to this and those two cases are actually examples of the system working well for the young driver, very much so in Russell's case, less so in Piastri's case but hey, he got a seat in the end. Plenty of drivers who have shown signs of being at the level don't ever get a chance.

The rule was introduced after Verstappen became an F1 driver. It was to prevent drivers coming in to young and getting burnt out too quickly, like a few have before. I'm not sure how it could have been introduced to go against Verstappen when it didn't affect him as he was already an F1 driver

The rule didn't affect Max in any way from what I remember, it affected everybody after Max. Stop looking for conspiracies where the answer is just incompetence and corruption and this isn't the first person it's affected by any means, it's affected many drivers who had to wait an extra year to get a seat or in some cases lost the chance of getting a seat at all because those rules were applied (not Max, he got his seat ASAP). IMO those rules actually make sense, how can you have drivers ripping around at 330KPH in multi million dollar/euro/pound machines when they aren't even legally able to drive in most of the countries where those tracks are situated? For a sport that has been trying to build an image in the modern era of safety first and responsibility, it's not a great look. As for the conspiracy part, don't forget Red Bull broke the cost cap and got less than a slap on the wrist in a personal meeting where Horner and Ben Suleyman hashed out what the minimum but just about acceptable if you don't think about it too hard punishment they could get away with giving Red Bull was. That's not me insinuating bias to Red Bull but more that the FIA are incompetent and inherently corrupt. Why would Ben Suleyman do that for Red Bull then? Well, probably because it gives him some power in that relationship. Why are they backtracking on the age requirements for a super license to get one, really fairly inexperienced driver compared to the average, into F1 ASAP, cuz it's a favor to Williams but even more so Mercedes and they get power in that relationship. Why did Ferrari get away with out any public punishment or even acknowledgement that they cheated with their engines a few years back? Same reason. Why is Flavio Briatore according to all of the rumors being allowed to waltz back into the sport despite being one of the most blatant and unforgivable cheats in the sport's history? Same reason. This culture isn't exclusive to Ben Suleyman's reign, it's the way it's usually been done both by the FIA and the rights holders. Bernie was the king of the dodgy deal before liberty came in. They, IMO, from what I know, seem notably better although I'm always open to finding out that actually it's just the same old shit because that's what I'm used to. The FIA haven't changed one bit. Still basically a mafia organization in the world of motorsport that do more harm than good.

@JohnnyMaverik
@JohnnyMaverik 3 ай бұрын
No. When the money goes why should the teams who hung in there when the sport was at an interest and financial low be at risk? The american interest and money is not assured and you don't have to go back many years to find a sport that struggled to financially support 10 teams let alone 11 or 12. The cost cap makes it a bit better but again, when it was first being talked about a lot of the smaller teams pointed out that they weren't able to spend any where near the number we ended up with anyway. By the time it was introduced the situation had shifted because the sport is in a good place financially but that can change quickly as history shows. Sure if somebody comes in with a really interesting package, it might be worth it, but just a new team for the sake of a new team, eh, what's the point. Would rather every team had +1 car for some of the races over the season or the teams had to give their reserve drivers one of the cars in every sprint race. Not particularly keen on either of those ideas either TBH.
@aoife1122
@aoife1122 3 ай бұрын
No, they should be kicking out drivers who don't cut it anymore but still aimlessly @r$ing around in F1 to bolster their retirement fund thanks to their marketability (however real or perceived). @JohnnyMaveri But does the cost cap really makes it better? Now we see the likes of Toto and his buddy Sir Jimmy bagging annual dividends to the tune of £75m, F1 teams have literally become money printing machines, rather risk-free and well protected schemes with price tags in the billions. Back in the good ol' days, this money would have been spent on improving the cars, closing gaps and reducing boredom. If a team can't keep up, tough luck, sell the license to someone with more cash and loftier ambitions.

I think MotoGP had the Quartararo rule, stating that if you win the CEV(main feeder series) championship you could race in Moto3 regardless. Fabio turned out to be great, but the rule led to a lot of unexperienced riders causing accidents and they still put the minimum age at 18. I think every superlicence should be reviewed independently on a case-by-case basis, because even with the generous points system we get crash-happy drivers (Stroll and Mazepin), yet if a 17-year old wins F2, they will have to leave the series

Insane they view indycar so low, and if you are in NASCAR, there's no way you make it unless you win every single race. Also, Will, what are your thoughts on indycar signing with FOX for broadcasts? Do you think this is a good thing and does it affect the broadcasts in the UK?

Idk what Williams is expecting in that case. Like do they think he will rake in big points compared to Sargeant who they were all so desperate to get into F1 when he clearly needed another F2 season and maybe wasnt F1 material in the first place? Weird stuff. And if its merc, what do they think? That their "superstar" antonelli will really benefit from ~2 extra months in a williams? Thats 6 Race weekends. How many extra points will Antonelli get them with that added experience in 2025? I doubt it makes much difference. He would be able to drive another 9 races if they wait for his 18th birthday and either way driving in F2 will be valuable experience as well, compared to being thrown into the 2024 Williams mid season I would argue that driving F2 instead might even be better.

The thing that I think Kimi DOES have going for him is that he is one of the few F2 drivers this year that's relatively consistent with results. Sure, they're mostly in the middle of the points positions but so many drivers there have had high highs and low lows. Sometimes you just have to bring it home.

I think the bigger issue Pato had was him being a Red Bull Junior when he was in Indy Lights and then getting dropped because him WINNING Indy Lights wasn't enough SL points for an F1 drive. So he could have been in an F1 seat potentially before he was linked with McLaren. It's the FIA bias towards European series again

The thing with dispensation is FIA basically rectified their own series. Guys like Drugovich and Pourchaire won the championship and never got the coveted F1 seat till this day. By allowing this rules, it could potentially creating major crisis in the sport as age and talent are the only thing that mattered the most. This is not an F1 problem, it's a problem across every european-centric sport. Heck just look at Football with the names of Bellingham, Guler, Mainoo, etc. They've being valued more than they should be.

/j With the Alex Palou sage - There is one important item you missed, in that Mclaren - during the first round of lawsuits - claimed that they never intended giving Palou a full time ride in F1. They just wanted him for testing only in F1. Reading between the lines they only really wanted him for the potential to win Indycar series for them. That's when he realised he had been played by mclaren and the next lawsuit took fruition from there.
