The books and movies are filled with lots of BIG no-no's, to the point where people who are actually involved in the BDSM community boycott both. Christian is essentially the exact opposite of what a woman should look for as a Dominant, let alone a partner. 2 years late, but one of my favorite filmmaking anecdotes is that during the filming of The Shining, the crew put a fake door up for Jack Nicholson to chop through for the famous scene. But Jack just blasted right through it because he had been a volunteer fireman and actually knew what he was doing. So they replaced the fake door with a real door, let him go to town, and the rest is history. Every "thunk" of the ax sinking into the solid door... the cracking, the splitting, the splintered wood exploding through the other side, that's all tension! Jack has to actually put in effort to do it, and by the end of this task, Jack's flushed face helps sell that this guy is really off his rocker, which is exactly the point! The moral of the story for aspiring filmmakers is this: authenticity is king. You can't _pretend_ to chop down a door. You also can't _pretend_ to trip over thin air... not without it looking obviously phony and subconsciously pulling your audience out of the moment, which is about the worst thing you can do.
