"The Fight" James Funk & Lil Benny Rare Essence PA tape 1985

This is part 1 of the classic James Funk and Lil Benny fight on stage with Rare Essence pa tape from 1985! The twist to this story from what I've heard...Jas Funk and Funky Ned the Bass player was the ones having the altercation. If thats the case I guess Lil Benny was just instigating the situation lol. Most people remember it as a Funk and Benny fight that night.

I went to damm near all the shows from 78 Ivy City to 1990s triples my best RE is 82yr 83yr with Jungle Boogie, godfather Markie scottie, foots. People them years on KZbin see if u agree 👍? This was the most crankinist tape of that year. If your neighborhood didn't have this in circulation, I feel sorry for you. But sadly this was the beginning of the end, within a year Benny would leave and form Lil' Benny and The Masters, another premium Go Go band, but to this day Essence is still the wickedist band alive!!!!

@@phillipcotton833 no benny left re in the late summer of 84w and recorded a song called who came to boogie on jem rose records it was number on in London UK it's footage of the video. Here on you tube which under the name little benny I was a teen age dj and played it at. My high school prom. In 1984 I was in tenth grade under age but I was just starting djing and benny came back to re late 83 and the re formed little benny masters on and off

Man! I was attending bowie state when this came out and a buddy of mine came thru with a p.a. copy the same week and gave it to me.....which means I was the 1st person at BSU with it.... I mean, Benny and Funk going at it after Funk gets jumped....Benny was smooth AF and they just continued CRANKING!! Without question, THE BEST GOGO TAPE EVER! Just think, no other gogo band could have continued cranking like that....💣💥💣

The fight is a classic essence joint. Now first I heard it was some thugs in the crowd who was trying to jump Funk. Then I heard it was Funk and Benny(RIP) fighting, then I heard it was Funk and Funky Ned fighting. Who ever it was. This is a must have essence tape. Fo Sure. They came out that joint rocking 19:45

I lived in baltimore and trust me we use 2 vist dc for the clubs and go go music. Yall even had under ground raves among other things. Ps good times cant 4 get I seen all of the members of the grateful dead AT RFK STADIUM. Love all go go music definitely a feel good sound.

Exactly. Ned and Funk are very strong willed and similar individuals, as am I lol. I bumped heads with both of them a few times when I worked with them. So it makes sense. Benny was always real cool wit me and later found out he was family. He was definitely instigating 💯 😆 which I’m a pro at too.
