I have been a Texas Longhorn fan since 1958. I am also a retired United States Marine and Vietnam Veteran. Nothing beats the Aggie War Hymn for firing up your soul and God bless every Aggie that done the uniform of our country to fight for our freedom. I love this band and the Corps of Cadets and all that they stand for. I am so sad to see the greatest rivalry in college football coming to an end.

Dear Fellow Texans. I am a 1980 graduate of SMU and the SMU Mustang Band. I have always respected our former SWC foe for the rich traditions and the Fighting Texas Aggie Band. Always.

Playing this song in the band was the best and gave me so much pride. This song, noble men of kyle, ballad of the green berets, spirit of aggieland, and Patton were my favs. Go crappers (baritones) and b-batt!!

As a lifelong Dawg, I'm thrilled to have the Aggies join the SEC, they were always my favorite Big 12 team and now unless their play affects the Dawgs they will always have my support. They are a rare breed of passionate and tenacious individuals its hard not to like them.

I've wondered what he was saying. Heh.
@jhcoatney10 жыл бұрын
The4thaggie Yeah "Recall" is the bugle call that is played right before you would say "Hullabaloo". So he's basically telling the trumpet corps what to play. Even though I'm sure they would already know.

As a future Aggie (Class of 2022), I love this war hymn. I actually wrote the lyrics to my high school's fight song based off of the lyrics of the Aggie War Hymn. Gig Em

I'll be going to Sam Houston State because they offer my intended major, but I'm still gonna love the Ags. Greatest school on Earth. You can't spell "stupid" without "t.u." Let's give it up for the Fightin' Texas Aggie Band! And for the Aggie War Hymn, the world's longest fight song! Go A&M! Saw their horns off and beat 'em all to chig-gar-roo-gar-em! WHOOP!

The song "Power" (Texas A&M Univ.) is played as the football team entrance piece just prior to kick-off for the AGGIES at Kyle Field. Some are claiming.."yeah, it's racially slurred and profane, but we don't sing the lyrics (progress here as at least some are admitting that racial slurs and profanity are not such a good idea).. But,what if the song contained lyrics promoting cop killing? Or encouraged the resumption of slavery? But were not voiced of course...(at this point some even might believe lyrics are not part of a song-huh?) Would the song remain acceptable? Others have suggested it's OK for a person of color to use these shameful and hurtful slurs...is this not racist in itself? That's a confusing and dangerous road to take. It's not OK. Would Dr. King give his approval? Regardless, the extreme profanity in the song's lyrics should make the decision much easier. IMO, when the song was selected, someone dropped the ball here. Big time. Both the team and fans deserve better than this. It's tradition now, but does that make it any less toxic and inappropriate? Google the lyrics...you'll be shocked. A state supported institution no less...Would there be any negative consequences if another song, lyrically devoid of racial slurs and profanity was chosen as a replacement? A&M has an optimal opportunity here at becoming part of the answer, not the problem. What hinders us from doing the right thing?

@robertwilson69257 жыл бұрын
Actually...My Great Uncle Vernon wrote this. James Vernon Wilson, AKA Pinky. about Oct. of 1918, as near as our family can pin down. Not in a foxhole, but in a Rain Soaked Trench on the far right of the French/German Lines, while with the 6th Marines of WW1. It was written on the back of my great great grandmothers letter to him most likely at first. He was Born on Our Wilson Family Ranch, in 1897. He GAVE this Yell Song to Texas A&M in 1920, as a gift. It has been added to over the years.
