The amount of work that Chelsea puts into these is pretty impressive. I like to think of myself well versed in horror and especially John Carpenter (he directed 3 of my favorite horror movies) and I still learned something from her research. I'm glad you guys covered Carpenter and I'm sure eventually James will get around to covering his movies for the Kill Count. Though I'm jealous that James gets to watch so many Carpenter films for the first time. It's sad he didn't like Christine, though I think he has changed his mind somewhat over the years, it's one the of best Stephen King adaptations and has one of his greatest scores which is saying something. Also, it has a great commentary, where John Carpenter apparently notices his crew in the background of one quick shot at the climax and calls it "cheese wiz" which I now personally use when something is not up to my standard.

Apparently, Disney had a HUGE fight with Maureen O'Hara (whom was in THE PARENT TRAP) as she insisted she had to have First Name Billing in her contract (which Disney didn't do) and constantly sued him throughout the 60s, only ending it just before he went into the hospital for cancer surgery (when asked about O'Hara, he merely said, "That Bitch"). Apparently, she was also the first actress who brought MARY POPPINS to his attention

Great video. I think Lucy really likes John Carpenter,too. She's so adorable☺. I hope she keeps sneaking into the videos. Hey,you should do a kill count on the Omen franchise,just a thought. I heard in the podcast that you guys liked EC comics. Well,I don't know if you know this or not but John Carpenter has his own publishing company called Storm King Productions. They publish this anthology that is a little bit like Tales From The Crypt but with a Carpenter twist to it. It's called John Carpenter's Tales For A HalloweeNight and there are 4 graphic novels in the series so far. I have them all because I'm such a huge Carpenter fan. They are really good and look great in any horror collection.

One fun story about Starman is that Ted White mentioned he was 'playing some guy named Jason' and the whole production got SWARMED with people wanting his autograph for playing Jason. He was a very good sport about it and signed them but he was just genuinely surprised that a mass murderer like Jason had SUCH a huge fanbase.

The Alan Smithee thing is a little bit more complicated. As a director you can't just take the pseudonym. You have to present your case to the DGA and argue that the finished product the studio is putting out is significantly different from the film you intended to make or delivered (like if the studio severly interfered during shooting or re-edited the movie without your participation). If the guild agrees you can take the name. But since Alan Smithee has largely been outed to the public the name is rarely used anymore. Look up the film "An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn". It's a movie about a director whose name actually is Alan Smithee and who wants to disown his latest film but can't. The movie itself is terrible and ironically the director, Arthur Hiller, was credited as Alan Smithee.

Dude I wanna see a Christine sequel, just imagine it...A hellspawned car has sat in this junkyard for decades and still runs, no rust, no paint chipping, no damage at all and this high school kid's fascination for the car gravitates towards it, throughout the movie the kid's insanity grows out of control while his bestfriend tries to snap him out of it. Imagine the ending being a death race between an old school car and a new school car.

@rouenation
@rouenation 6 жыл бұрын
Vampires is one of his best movies and it works as a modern western also. Memoirs of the Invisible Man had some great effects for the time. Escape From L. A. felt like a parody of the Escape From New York the Gremlins 2 was a parody of Gremlins. Lockout (2012) is a great homage [or rip off depending on who you ask] to the Escape films. Ghost of Mars had an interesting reveal but devolved into a lesser movie like Doom. The Ward had an ending that felt a little rushed. If you want to see a young Jeff Bridges in some great roles I would suggest TRON, Against All Odds, 8 Milliom Ways to Die, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot King Kong (1976), Cutter's Way & The Fabulous Baker Boys. B~)

MEMOIRS OF AN INVISIBLE MAN is extremely underrated. YES, it's got Chevy Chase in it, but he's not too bad, Sam Neil's awesome as the villain, and the effects are INSANELY good. No, it's not Carpenter's best, but he's most of the reason MEMOIRS didn't suck as much as it could have.
