I have nothing against Terence Stamp, but I have always thought that he was rather dull as an actor. Not much in the way of personality. He never gave a stand out performance on screen. Perhaps he was unlucky and didn’t get the right scripts? On the other hand, perhaps he was lucky to get the prominence he received in the first place?

A fair observation, he wasn't everyone's cup of tea I think 😉

I think your perceiving of him as being quote on quote “dull” was probably because his performances tended to be understated and subtle and naturalistic. Not that there is anything wrong with that, it’s actually quite nice. Now, Peter O’Toole on the other hand…

I honestly had a crush on young Terence Stamp in high school, despite the fact that he’s old enough to be my grandpa. In regards to @user-ue8pw6ln1u’s complaint about him not having much personality and being dull on screen-well, I’d argue that he DOES have a personality, it’s just that it’s really subtle. See, he was much more of an actor who was much much more naturalistic and understated in his performances, and he also didn’t go to drama school, and most of the roles that he played in the 1960’s were often reserved or normal people like you and me. That isn’t to say that people who came from drama school were incapable of doing understated, subtle performances. And that also isn’t to say that Stamp can’t ham it up when he can (case in point Zod in the Superman movies). Because of the subtle and understated nature of his performances in general, this could be why he may be viewed as kind of “dull” and “lacking in personality” for some people, and why he could be viewed as not giving out any stand out performances. Compare this to another actor who rose to fame during the same decade as Stamp, Peter O’Toole, who by contrast was (by @user-ue8pw6ln1u’s thoughts anyway) certainly never dull and full of energy and charisma whenever he was on screen.
