As someone who watched Power & Evil when they were first broadcast I have to say I thought Evil was the better story. The reconstruction, whilst being as good as it can be, doesn't do the story justice.

Stephen MacKenzie I think it might be animated, it is certainly in the top 2 1960’s Dalek stories and better than The Dalek’s Master Plan.

@@chriszone50, yes Master Plan, though an important and sadly "missing" story would be too expensive to animate due to it's length and is a slightly inferior story.

I can remember listening to the soundtrack of this story in summer 2009. Loved every second of it and I took a long look at it afterwards and thought "I wish that was a DVD." Great review!

I finally saw the reconstruction of this last year,and came to a similar conclusion as you: fun on the whole;but I felt that its 'absolute classic' reputation derived more from the mythological status it had achieved from being missing than because it was a particularly brilliant story.

ian smith Well it isn’t considered the best, it isn’t even in Patrick Troughton’s top 5 stories. But it is better than The Dalek’s Master Plan.

Don't you want to see all the missing episodes animated? I think this was the first time the Classic show did anything like a modern series season finale (at the end of the 66-67 season.)

Simply put, Power... is a great Dalek story with the Doctor in it, whereas Evil... is a great Doctor Who with the Daleks in it.

I also think that Power is slightly better than Evil. Still, Evil is a good Dalek story and is thoroughly enjoyable. The writing is very good and the Daleks are threatening. It would gain a lot from being animated and we'd get a better idea of it. I've seen some people say that they could animate all 7 episodes for visual consistency and include ep 2 on another disc. Hopefully at some point the animation team will do Evil as it's a good story and would definitely benefit from animation.

Power of the Daleks is better than Evil of the Daleks and Evil of the Daleks is better than The Dalek's Master Plan but they are very close. Imagine if Hartnell stayed for just one more story where Power of the Dalek's would have been his last story, that would have been his last and best story and one of the greatest regeneration stories and it would be reminiscent of his second story. Such a shame as Patrick Troughton already has many great stories already.

I love Power, but prefer Evil of the Daleks - its probably my favourite Dalek tale. Daleks plus Victoriana is a fantastic combination! 😁

Yeah not as good as The Power of the Daleks, but The Evil of the Daleks is a great Dalek story and it would be nice if it got animated.
