Think of the Monsters like a human body. The Queen was the brain while her guards was the skull, and her workers were the central nervous system. Basically, the guards kept any and all threats from reaching the Queen as the workers performed their commands to attack, search, and feed. The Queen, being the brain, issued the commands to her workers and guards. But when she died, everyone else just shut down. Because if there was no brain to give the commands, what would give the workers and guards directions.
