Sitting here in my cottage in the woods, tending my chickens and living comfortably on my meager Social Security check, I have so many fond memories of the adventures I've had in my life and enjoy planning for the next ones. None were "stunts". None earned me fame or fortune. And none were intended to give my adrenal glands a workout. My tame adventures have built precious memories and if I have to live to a ripe old age, I guess that's just the price I pay for happy moderation.

Respect. You have to respect Life. At 23, he experienced so many daring "sports", too many. No safety standard in that. My heart breaks for his family. I am struggling to have empathy towards his outcome. Johnny Strange has made me come to the realization that although we all like a happy ending, videos like these are more educational and need to be shared. Especially on a platform like this where so many videos show these kind of "sports" to our folks. I am sure he had many, of all ages, that thought he was just the best at these extreme adventures and looked up to him, and even wanted to be like him. The real lesson here, I believe, is learning to listen to our inner voice. All around him said that he had changed and something wasn't quite right after his near miss. Obviously he had lost confidence and had doubt concerning his mortality choosing these adventures. We all need to listen to that voice more. Have a great day, JR! Thank you! Your videos are always so thought provoking!

I love your conclusion! Simply LOVE IT!!! If someone craves for so much adrenaline... just let him have a family... plenty of children... and just try this one: - provide for the family; - raise your children; - oh, try driving them on a trip, while being behind the steering wheel; - etc. etc. etc. Trust me, you'll have all the adrenaline you would ever want and not want at the same time. PS: Talking about driving. Just recently I was driving late night for almost 300 km through quite badly maintained village roads without any street lighting whatsoever. My wife was next to me and sleeping. My dog was snoring in behind. So it was me, my concentration and the road. Ready to react to anything that is OUTSIDE of the car - a boar, a deer, a human...you name it. But I was not expecting that I should also be ready for the INSIDE!!! Because at one point all of a sudden my wife, while screaming "AAAAAAAH" grabbed me strongly by my shoulder! I immediately stiffened my hands, because god forbid she will pull my arm and I'll lose control over the steering wheel. I stopped after that and just went out. I really needed to smoke my pipe. Only after a few puffs I managed to ask "what the f*** was that"?! Apparently she had a dream about me falling asleep behind the steering wheel. Trust me! There was so much adrenaline in my blood that I could export it overseas!

@@outdoordisasters Thanks. ;-) But I've been through worse. And I've had a good teacher for driving when I was 15 - my father. When he was 15 he was training in a club for youth rallye drivers (for 2 years). So he imprinted into me as into a pilot: "ALWAYS (1) first and foremost drive, then (2) navigate, then (3) communicate with whomever you want". So my mind automatically switches into that mode in critical situations. All credits to my father.

Another young life driven by adrenaline and the need to push the limits. Despite all his so-called concern for others, he didn't show that concern for himself or his family. Some say it was a freak accident, but he went up that mountain and jumped off in sketch wind conditions. That's not an accident, as he had ample warning and time to decide not to jump that day. He didn't read the message of the near miss jump earlier. All the signs were screaming at him to take a break and reset, yet he chose to rely on sheer determination to overcome doubt. The jump showing him turn to the left might have been a sudden gust of wind, or him deciding to do a twirl or something, who knows. What is clear is that he was not taking the necessary time to adequately learn the new skills, perhaps due to overconfidence from previous achievements. At least in this case, he didn't leave any children behind to miss their crazy father. However, he left his parents behind to miss their crazy son. I don't think anyone should be blaming the dad for encouraging his adventurous and risk taking spirit, that seemed to be part of him from an early age anyway. At his age, most young men are far more influenced by their friends and people they hang out with. Also, at his age he was far more likely to believe he could do anything. Maybe the scare of the near miss drove him to test his nerve without flinching to get back the confidence he had before. He could so easily have chosen to leave it that day and come back another time. However, he was not the kind of person to turn back from danger or uncertainty - so sooner or later that will result in serious consequences. Obviously, hindsight is a beautiful thing in what we write in the comments.

He jumped twisted and dont throw immediately his parachute? This does only mean if that would be, he may have a little chance, if opening is about 4 sec. But easy to say. He wants to dive , and all mind was focused to do a dive. And this is the mistake in his riskmanagement. I am 69 and quit hanggliding this spring. To abort a start over a cliff with a hangglider is comparable. A lift at one side in the moment of the last step is mostly your end. I had incredible luck an was very angry when I was criticized. Because I was young and a giant arrogant asshole. But I swallow this bitter pill. Since this time, my first grip before start was the handle bar of the parachute. As a well trained routine. And that was a really good idea.. For those, who regret the dead ones, I say: If you are in trouble you have no time to fear. You fight until the läßt tenth of a sec. Then you hear yor bones brake. The impact is without pain. This comes later.. if you survive. And this may not always be the best for you or your parents!! Risk management and brain!!!!!

I wanted to dislike this guy but I just couldn't. It leaves me wondering : which is better, a short life lived to the fullest, or a long life lived in eked out tedium. I guess the truth is somewhere inbetween those two opposites.

Exactly. I'm kind of envious of him for boldly taking risks. Amazing life, bless him.

Why are life choices stated as if there are only two paths--short and wildly adventurous, or long and no hum, the routine if "quiet desperation"? Aren't there an infinite number of ways to plot out course outside of these two limiting roads!

There is such a thing as looking for joy and beauty in the simple things and the quiet things. One's perspective on the value of the mundane in life is crucial to one's overall enjoyment of life. A person who can only be happy during extreme activities is not really a happy person.

Where did the sponsor money come from ? He must have been loaded with dough.
@TonyCox13513 ай бұрын
Highly doubt he was loaded. A lot of these guys live in vans and such. Only the top 0.1% of athletes in any sport make any kind of real money, and in niche sports it’s even less so
@sendthis94803 ай бұрын
@@tphvictims5101 The sponsors these dudes get aren’t always obvious to their sport. You can find old shoots this guy did with companies like Patagonia or Apex wingsuits…but the majority of photo shoots are watch companies or motorcycles brands. Like…if there’s a commercial where a guy in a tuxedo jumps out of an airplane and checks his watch and then parachutes into the front door of a dinner party…that usually has a small portion of an actual skydiver wearing a tuxedo. That’s the typical kind of sponsors these dudes get.
