@@WuxianTec from a chemist’s perspective, the phenomenon that is “coldness” doesn’t actually exist! The presence of cold is actually just the absence of heat, or energy! That’s why friction produces heat- or “kinetic energy”- meaning from a technical standpoint the correct way to describe it WOULD actually be reducing heat instead of increasing cold! :]

Just noticed upon rewatching this (one of the few live streams I caught) that the main reason Gideon lost his life was probably because he incurred the wrath of Edmund/Lazarus/ the party, because he wouldn’t tell the party the royal palace’s secret entrance. They were going to just sneak in and kill the king to seize power. The rest is just superficial to make his execution look justified.
@Cheezbuckets Жыл бұрын
I didn’t think about it ‘til I saw your comment, but the merit deduction for emotion being more than the others combined can’t be a coincidence. Interpreting physical signs of emotions is *extremely* subjective depending on the viewer and the subject, so if someone does anything against the Party you want to severely punish them for, put them on trial (a high-stress environment) and mark them down as displaying too much emotion any time they have any reaction. Their brow furrows? They’re displaying anger, -7 merit. They stammer? Emotion, -7. Did Gideon fully cry 10 times during the trial, or did he get marked down every time he teared up or his voice shook or anything else that can be subjectively labeled as “crying” in order to eliminate him for defying them?

I love how much hidden information is in this game that it doesn't directly say and can easily be missed. I can think of two off-hand, but I'm sure there's more: - "Ash Blair", who killed Walter Wright at the inn, was David Gorran using a fake name (from the tobacco brand). It does say in the epilog that David Gorran killed him so it's kind of a given, but it doesn't directly address that he was using a fake name, so it's easy to forget. - The lady doing laundry near the camp at the end is actually Maurice Evans, the musician from the inn dressed as a woman. His face looks exactly the same, he has the same navajo blade, and in the previous chapter his square violin is in one of the boxes of confiscated loot. (He also says later that the Order Party took everything from him.)

I interpreted this as that being Maurice's mother, who he mentioned in the mermaid case, and the 'taking everything' line was in reference to Maurice himself probably being demerit executed at some point, since he is known to be both a gambler and a musician and that would lead to lots of repeat counts and a rather large sentence

in a court like this, even being told that they'd reduce 7 years of my youth each time i cry it probably wouldn't get me to stop but rather make me cry more out of pure fear, so gideon bell bursting into tears ten times during the questioning is very relatable! i picture them telling him that his hairstyle is outrageous and he interrupts by full-on sobbing, lmao i feel that this game is so ridiculously funny, but the part when edmund cloudsley wrote "i am certain that you would wish to hear the rest of my thoughts on the shortcomings of our society" in his letter to miss richards sticks out as my favorite moment, that one gave me a really good laugh. edmund is an insufferable man and i love it

In defense of Peach fans I, and assume many of us were women that grew up playing games when Peach in mario spin offs and smash were like, some of the only times we got to actually play as a woman in the nintendo games we played. So we got attached to her and built a idea of her character more based on how she is in those (more active and on a level playing field with the others while still being "girly"). Playing as a character imbues them with a level of agency beyond their writing. Anyway I like Peach but respect not liking her.
@aleak23852 жыл бұрын
also the story line of supermario is as consistent as like superhero comics because like them they have different people who make various mini series on the characters meaning its a fair criticism that the problem is with her writing because shes not just a character in one book shes being written by different people in different settings
@friend_trilobot2 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. And that principle applies to trans women, even those who are just finding themselves. I didn't build up lore around her as a child, but I can speak from experience that playing as her now in games like mario 3d world gives me serious gender euphoria
@Nortarachanges Жыл бұрын
Truth. And she was legit the best character in Mario 2. That float is the goat ^_^
@Cheezbuckets Жыл бұрын
My only justification for liking Peach is “I just think she’s neat” (the only game I had growing up where she was playable was Mario 2, so I didn’t get particularly attached to her back then), so I have no beef with people who don’t like her, but also I like seeing what actual reasons people have for liking her
@LaMarcheFutilé101 Жыл бұрын
I don't think Julia would say you _can't like_ Peach- there's plenty of reasons to do so. But that's very different from her _not being a good character_. We all like things that are bad, every single one of us. Nothing wrong with it at all, but I think recognizing that just because you like something doesn't make it good art is really, really important; otherwise, you get trapped in the mindset that any criticism of said character (or art) is criticism of you as a person, and that leads to some incredibly toxic behaviors.
@sydneylyman8778 Жыл бұрын
My favorite little detail when playing this game myself was the Ash Blair/David Gorran thing. Playing the first time, you don't know anyone yet so you don't really notice, but I had to go back and investigate Ash Blair for that final puzzle and was like "Hey! That's just David Gorran!" Since characters are more recognizable at the end of the game, it's obvious when you see it, when it isn't something you would have looked for originally.

I think what people mean is that peach has a cute character design and a sweet, kind personality. Though she was def created to be a macguffin/ love interest, she inevitibly has become more than that, especiallyb since she is a protagonist in several games and a playable character in many. I like that in many games where she is a playable character she uses her parasol or dress to float, which is an ability Mario lacks. BUT she is frequently damseled by the narrative. This combined with her trad femme character design makes it really easy for people to connect those ideas and say that traditional feminine expression is deeply tied to the writjng, which is laughable. You can be femme and even be passive and not be a bad character. There are ways to write passive characters, and people should present with whatever gender expression they like. Plus, at this point her being damseled is literally just a running trope the series feels beholden to which they can and should drop. It'd be easy to take that out. So what people are saying i think, is that if she was written even just a little bit better - like, don't damsel her anymore??? That's literally it - she'd be a great femme character, passive, cute, sweet, wearing dresses bc dresses are cool, but able to do everything mario can do. And bc of headcanons and games where she is playable she already is that character to lot of people, myself included.
