Kanami. Dear Mincho. She works so doggone hard and does so much in one song it’s astounding. Astonishing. She’s playing three layered guitar parts by herself. All by her adorable little caffeinated self. ❤

Kanami, Saiki and Miku all just kill it on this one. Another reactor said "even with the language barrier, you still sense the feeling of longing and loss. If you read the lyrics or the story behind (and remember this is Ms. Miku writing) it's even more heartbreakingly honest.

A hard rocking song with a sad story. Miku is a great lyricist who likes writing a story for the songs. This one is about a married man having an affair. For the lady, he’s the final piece of the puzzle she’s been hoping to find. The lyrics are about him stopping the affair and returning to his family. Then her puzzle falls apart. In the acoustic version just Kanami and Saiki perform. Saiki puts so much emotion into Puzzle it looks like she’s going to cry.

Thanks Chase. Great reaction. I only made the last 30 seconds of the premiere. oops. 😂 Band-Maid is brilliant. Kanami is brilliant. I have seen them twice now from the front row on the rail, once on Misa's side, then on Kanami's side. No, they aren't perfect, but I think in everyone's minds that have attended an okyu-ji, you could not ask more of this band. Kanami's riffs are so complex at times, you could never fault her for missing a note or 2. They are far above other bands on the evolutionary scale. One thing you didn't mention was Misa's incredible work on this song, and having been 2 feet away from her whole she is playing, she is flawless. I don't even think she knows how to miss a note. I look forward to the day you can report that you have seen them live. 😃

I'm not a musician, but I have the same feeling as you. I always love seeing Band Maid and seeing your reaction. As you say, they are delicately changing rock music. “Puzzle” is one of my favorite songs. Let's not forget the work of Miku who supports the lead vocals of Siaki in backing vocals, and who supports the lead guitar as rhythm guitar. In this song, his support is particularly remarkable. I wish you great happiness in the United States, and please keep your accent, because I don't understand the US one.

But if I had to choose just one, it would be Puzzle. Absolutely incredible song on all levels. Composition, depth, musicianship, energy, and passion. I feel like they are all playing energetic solos at the same time that just blends together into this amazingly powerful song. You need to react to the acoustic version. Gives it such a different story and just shows the versatility of this amazing group of women.

They are elevating Rock's musicality in my opinion as well as re-exposing listeners to the energy this kind of music offers. Great reaction and attention to the small details as always Chase. Ty was right, this is one of the songs that exemplifies WHO Band-Maid is. I'd say Secret My Lips and Blooming are 2 others in that same category. To your point about the small flub and the recording... I still have the live stream saved on my HDD and they did do a little post-production work on this video. Kanami also flubbed the intro to the solo as well. It's a fast, intricate part that is not simple to play. And you're 100% correct its the fact that she doesn't always play it perfectly and that they don't try to hide it that highlights the authenticity of this band and these artists. I would also suggest finding the live version from Studio Coast in 2017 and then the acoustic version from 2018 Zepp Tokyo. To me, along with this version, they are 3 different songs. The first Saiki as a longing mistress, the second as a distraught melancholic lover, and the third (this one) is the logical conclusion - anger and rage. Also... WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO REACT TO GION-CHO (like you promised Ryan?) 😉 And finally, SAFE TRAVELS and GOOD LUCK in your new American adventure and I hope our paths cross at a Band-Maid show or possibly another amazing Japanese artist's show.

Chase ... this is why I always look forward to your assessment of a piece of music, you literally "hear" what's going on and you keep it real (cliche .. sorry) I've watched a load of reactions to this video and you're the first person I've seen who has had the nuts to point out those small and human slips at the end of the amazing Kanami's solo. She writes it, she plays it and, as you so rightly say, she's honest enough not to try and hide it behind multiple effects. Kudos to her and kudos to you my man for another forthright and enjoyable reaction. Best of luck with the move :)

It's funny. Sometime when people first come across this band, the maid dresses are the big deal - their identity. For musicians it takes four bars or less to realize it is _not_ a big deal. Their ability to express themselves is the big deal. In this song in particular; the lyrics describe a woman who's "missing piece of the puzzle" doesn't love her back, doesn't remember when they met, won't ever be their one and only, or even acknowledge them in public. The guitar solo expresses that. You've heard the phrase "ugly cry" and that's what it is. It's not about perfection, it's about pain. Two addenda: there's a Zen concept of wabi-sabi, beauty in flaws. In particular, flaws from an object being used for it's purpose. It's the reason a guitar player loves their old Stratocaster with the chips and dings and the finish worn off the back of the neck. There's beauty in it. Second; a lot of people love an earlier live version of "Puzzle" from a concert that was only released as a limited edition. In that version, Kanami gets into the solo by omitting the run up to the first note. Here she plays it like the album but quite frankly, it doesn't matter much. It's the bend in that first phrase that has all the heartbreak in it. Welcome to the States!

The older LIVE version is even better! You can really hear the double tap on the snare. It was from the Studio Coast show. The Zepp Tokyo LIVE concert has the acoustic version, which is also amazing! It's done as a slow ballad. It can be tough to find these as they were pulled from KZbin ahead of the DVD. Zepp is on Bilibili, but that's a Chinese site and tough to pull a video from. Even if you don't do a reaction of it you should watch it anyway. Actually, I prefer the lead in the Studio Coast version because the last note was slightly off. So, if that's what you then like you'll agree with me. That was what made it special. She got that last one more on here, but maybe not so much on some of the others.

Ah Chase, the perfect reaction to the perfectly imperfect song! "Get In" indeed! I love your Band-Maid reactions. Best wishes for the move Stateside. ps Don't forget the new Lovebites live material. 😉
