By then we will all be dead... or at the very least, music will sound very different from anything we listen to today. It would be like the difference between baroque and rock & roll. But I think a more conservative estimate of a hundred or so years seems realistic. It will be popular in the 2110s.... ;)

This is hilarious because Nirvana and Europe actually had a run in: ""A couple of times I went to pick them up at the Oakwood Apartments and they had definitely turned their place into a bachelor pad. There were cans of food lying open everywhere and clothes thrown all over the place and acoustic guitars lying around the r oom. I know they were getting a big kick out of staying there because the band Europe was staying next to them. That was the band that had a big hit with "The Final Countdown." The guys in Europe would all go sit out with their girlfriends by the pool eve ryday. And I remember Chris and Dave and Kurt making fun of them. They were not big Europe fans." -Butch Vig (from article on the making of Nevermind)

It's so amazing how much you can change a song by changing instrumentation and harmony, especially the harmony. It's the difference between sad but hopeful on one hand and total despair on the other. The chord change where he sings "I'm worse at what I do best and for this gift I feel blessed, " really puts that roller-coaster ride feeling in your gut.

@rebecca85252 жыл бұрын
It shows that the two genres aren’t so different after all.
@hellsunicorn10 жыл бұрын
This is absolutely classic, not just because of the quality, but also because of how much of a musical blasphemy it is to the self-important 90s crowd. I have to say that Kurt Cobain wasn't the worst musician to ever come out of nowhere, but a massive amount of his fan base are pretentious douche bags with no sense of humor. In addition to 80s hair rock, Grunge also destroyed thrash metal, arguably the greatest thing to come out of the 80s. Right after Nevermind took off, several prominent thrash metal labels were bought out by the major labels (the biggest one being Combat Records) and were subsequently dismantled and the bands in them were told to either sound like Grunge or get lost. It was a 100% co-opted corporate scene within a year of its birth, and every die-hard Nirvana fan is essentially what some might call as "Fashionable Non-conformist".
@mikeyvgc10 жыл бұрын
OK First off - a lot of his fan base is actually like that however yes i am a 90's kid, (actually born and raised within the ENTIRE decade might i add) however i am far from self righteous. Secondly - agreeable to the pretentious douchebags of a lot of his fans but i am far from that and find this hilariously well done and very well pleasurable in the entertainment of which it was designed, the lyrics fit amazing well and this guy obviously put a lot of work into it (kudos btw). Thirdly - you are right, this is a classic but for all the RIGHT reasons,, why must people be so negative all the time? just accept the work is done and praise the guy for a job well done! stop being so destructive in nature just because of the *self righteousness* you wish to seek in yourself. Be proud of who you are and what you, yourself, have accomplished to date, i am sure you can agree within the *self righteous* concept yourself, i know i can.
@irishcajun8510 жыл бұрын
I was raised up listening to and loving their music, along with 'Beavis and Butthead'...but c'mon now. I was also brought up listening to Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Eric Clapton, Ozzy Osbourne, Otis Redding, Wayne Toups, Kiss, Lynard Skynard, George Jones, Keith Whitley, etc. Moral of the story is I think the people that are arrogant about Nirvana will be arrogant with anything they can claim to as 'cool', i.e., younger people who can't even remember most of their music when it was released, but are 'discovering' him.

@hellsunicorn10 жыл бұрын
Tim Bucknall That's fine, but that is not what my experience has been. I've also found that the more humor-loving people who listen to Grunge were born after 1992. The average Generation X Nirvana junkie (I'm technically a Gen X kid myself, though right at the tail end of it) that I've encountered over the years doesn't tend to share your sense of humor.
