Excellent and practical "behind the scenes" discussion of this topic. Every (extremely amateur) recital I've done, I've had to fudge something, usually on the order of 1 or 2 bars.

Just remember the immortal words of Vladimir Horowitz advising Gitta Gradova right before her performance of Rachmaninoff's Paganini Rhapsody (as quoted in Gary Graffman's memoir "I Really Should Be Practicing"): "I wasn't especially nervous - just normally excited," she recalled, "until we got into the cab.
