In this video we start a fire Air Pressure and the Fire Piston Fire Kit. This is a great bushcraft survival skill to know how to do. This is part of a fire making series I am doing which includes videos on: Friction fire - Bow Drill Fire, Hand Drill Fire, Fire Plow, Fire Thong, Fire Piston, and more.

Fire piston with metal. where the lowest melting point of a metal began to be tin, copper, and silver. The three materials were combined to become bronze. Previously there were stone, wood, and bamboo fire pistons. Seals used natural fiber materials, before getting to know precision molded rubber. And fuel/tinder doesn't know cloth. Thank you for the progress of the fire piston.

My dad had a device that looked almost exactly the same as your Kikuyu fire cylinder, except at the bottom of the hole there was a rubber band. This went through the bottom end of the cylinder via two slots, and a plug to hold the rubber band in position. The piston was a stick with a knob at the top and a notch at the bottom end, and the object of the device was to turn the piston until you caught the rubber band. You could tell if you caught the rubber band because once hooked the knob at the top of the piston would snap back firmly with a loud report after hooking the rubber band and being pulled out of the cylinder part way. No one could ever make this happen no matter how hard they tried because there was a trick to it. It was hilarious to see the look on people's faces after they had tried repeatedly to hook the band with no success. But you, once you had the secret, could take the device and instantly hook the rubber.
