for me, i think it was clear mae was fast to shift blame. in the convo when osha asks her "what did you do?" about the fire mae immediately asks her back "what did YOU do" as if the fire was her fault because of her choice. so i could see her easily blaming the jedi being there at all for this problem, although it would be cool to see more of her perspective explicitly

My theory is that the Jedi infiltrated the coven fortress at the same time Mai and Osha thing was happening. That reactor was important, they showed it early on in the episode. Indara and Torbin began slaughtering the coven and Sol went looking for the girls. Kalnacca is the technical one, we see him fixing the speeder. He was the one that sabotaged the reactor, causing the explosion and spreading the fire. Torbin was wounded in the fight, you see for a brief moment at the end of the episode with his ruined eye, which wasn't present the the initial meeting with the Jedi. Clearly the inquisition/slaughter didn't sit well with Torbin which is why he retreated to that meditation state. That's what I was able to put together with all of the context clues.

@@emme I've a suspicion Mae may not have started the fire after all. She didn't look that surprised that Osha got out when they met at the bridge, as if she didn't know Osha was trapped… could it be that there's some trick of the Force going on here which manifested as an illusion of Mae in Osha's eyes?

I've seen a lot of people commenting the theory that the Jedi were more involved with what happened to the rest of the coven than what we see in this episode. Personally, while I do think that is the directly the show is going, I'm still not convinced that the Jedi were involved. Likely, I think Mae's master was the one who actually wiped out the rest of the coven and framed it in a way to convince Mae that the Jedi did it. She wouldn't be the first person manipulated by the Sith to hate and even kill Jedi.

It's interesting how differently people can see this episode. For example, my impression of the Jedi during this was quite the opposite of yours. First of all, they lied A LOT. They DID NOT think the planet was uninhabited. Sol was tracking them and they even had to hack into a security system to get in. It was a clear, blatant lie. They were rude and smug AF(as usual for Clone War era Jedi, but sad to see in the High Republic), and again they lied saying they don't take children. And then, c'mon, that little Mae fire obviously didn't kill every single witch and exploded a forking reactor. xD To me it's pretty clear the Jedi did it(you can even hear the force being used during Osha's escape). They killed them all, destroyed their house and blame it on the child they left to die in the fire. I'd wager that Mae actually saw part of this, and that's why she blamed Osha. Even more than that: the Jedi probably wouldn't find them if Osha didn't keep running away from the house, so if she followed the rules the witches could probably be alive. I understand she has personal feelings, but IMO she went to it the wrong way, she was quite selfish(not as much as Mae hahaha) and ended up being partially responsible for the deaths of everyone she loved and the ultimate corruption of her already kinda evil sister. And that's the flashback from her POV, I wonder what other things we'll find out with Mae and the Jedi's POVs, which I'm sure we'll get eventually. Also suuuuper conveniente that Sol was already INSIDE their home when things were exploding, isn't it? Almost like he knew it would happen. And Jedi Tommen had his scar when Osha woke up. There's much yet to find out about that night. Poor Osha and Mae. Anyway, the episode was great. RIp the Witches, and Jedi keep giving me the icky. Can't wait for the next one!

Someone actually thinks that the idea of Anakin's conception in the first place was a good idea? It was one of the most ridiculous additions to the lore to come out of the dumpster fire of concepts from the prequels. I'm not saying that the same concept (if that is what they are using) would be any better here, but Immaculate Conception Anakin was stupid 1999 and it is still stupid now.

I get it, common misconceptions going around here but the twins birth and anakins birth are fundamentally different. Anakin was created by the will of the force itself to counteract what plageuis and Sidious were doing, while the twins were created with the help of magik manipulation. "And what happens when the Jedi discover how you created them." I think Mother Aniseya made a (desperate) deal with Sith to create the twins to continue their traditions. I think something goes down when the Jedi realize some dark force stuff went down and the witches are hiding it. Also, I question if Mother Aniseya actually plans to let Osha go. She chooses her words carefully when she says, "We will consider your wishes." She doesn't say "If that's what you want you can go."

I like how this episode didnt give the full picture of the backstory for Mae and Osha, like it especially gets vague when Mae burns Osha's room, like all of a sudden we shift to a reactor blowing up and all these dead witches, and conveniently the Jedi are just there. I think the Jedi are hiding some secrets of what they did there because if it really was just a fire gone very bad then why would the jedi from last episode have so much guilt?

no they are not created the same as Anakin. They completely made Anakin's birth less special and less meaningful. Anakin wasn't created by witches, dark side users or anything like that. Anakin was created by the whil of the force itself ( aka the Whils ). The force conducted the midichlorian's to created Anakin because the galaxy was going out of balance. That's why Anakin doesn't have a father. Its suppose to be like a miracle from god in a way. This was confirmed by George Lucas's himself.

The Jedi going somewhere they're not wanted to test children is going too far. Mother Aniseya gaslighting Osha is going WAY too far. So I'm team Jedi for now, until we know more about what happened. As for becoming either a Jedi or a Witch, it is a major decision to make at any age. But children are often far more sure of who they are and of what they want to become than adults are. It's just adults aren't always sure how to give children the ability to express their thoughts, or how to present a choice to them without convincing themselves they're influencing the children. But that worry should just stop existing, because everything everyone does influences everyone else. What they do, what they say, what they think, what they choose, etc. Influence is a natural part of life and is perfectly fine if not intentionally swayed one way or another.

This episode was, unfortunately, awful. The previous two episodes intrigued me, but this one definitely did not. I was afraid that the past would be poorly depicted, and, well, unfortunately, it is. There are a lot of stupid things in this episode that I can still forgive, but here are the 2 biggest problems: The girls don't have a father. They are not the Chosen One, and only the Chosen One could be conceived by the Force. This is just insulting to fans. Here, the witches possess the knowledge to do it. The Sith have long been interested in the secrets of the Force and immortality, so logically, they should have long ago acquired the ability to create powerful Force users in this way, but the only one who probably reached this knowledge or was very close was Darth Plagueis. If such an ability naturally exists and the witches can use it without problems, why did it take the Sith so long, and why did Qui-Gon even consider Anakin to be the Chosen One? A random clan of witches cannot control the Force in such a way because that is literally the goal of the Sith for generations. They seek complete control and power, both in the Force and over the galaxy that they were never able to achieve. Even their code emphasizes this: I must break my chains (limitations) to be free, and the key to this is passion and strength. (If the clan has such knowledge, I must take it for myself) Additionally, Osha was accepted into the Order at an age when she shouldn't have been. Anakin was a slave and wasn't accepted, He became a Jedi only because Kenobi wanted to fulfill his master's will.

I think you are over reacting to there not being a father. It was the will of the Force that created Anakin as a response Plagues and Sideous, but the twins were created by manipulating the Force to create life. Perhaps the fact there were twins was the fill of the Force to counter act Maes darkside and bring balance to this unnatural use of the Force

I cant remember if they mentioned that she was a bit older to be admitted in the Jedi order in an earlier episode, but it could have been events arising in the Acolyte that could have had led the Jedi to be so against Anakin being admitted.

@@SupersonicMan10000 This is my normal criticism. This knowledge is something the Sith have sought for generations, and yet, for some reason, a group of witches knows it while the Sith do not? This is the normalization of knowledge that the Sith have been searching for over generations. Creating life through the Force involves controlling the Force, which is precisely what interests the Sith. They desire total control. A prime example is Valkorion's quote: "The Force is mine. I command it." This is the Sith's main goal, and the fact that this knowledge has been normalized in such a way doesn't make sense. Even if they explain that there are two ways of conception through the Force, it still won't make sense because it continues to normalize an ability that the Sith would be interested in, and it diminishes and even destroys Anakin's uniqueness as the Chosen One.

Your “2 biggest problems” are nonsense that you created in your head. Nothing in this show in any way involves or affects Anakin. At all. He was conceived by the force, these twins were conceived *using* force magik. If you think Anakin was the only character born, in 25,000+ years of galactic history, under unusual force circumstances, then that’s your failure. No one else’s. And Anakin not being accepted initially happens A HUNDRED YEARS AFTER THIS. And they have acknowledged *in this show* that it was unusual for Osha to be accepted. But you’re assuming that’s somehow canon-breaking, when the reality is that Osha probably is one of several cases that serve to *strengthen* the Jedi’s reticence to train Anakin down the road. Just stop watching. It’s fine, I promise, nobody will miss you. You clearly have not approached even a single scene of this show in good faith, you simply let the right wing outrage grifters make your mind up for you weeks ago.

The sith are just as arrogant as the Jedi are…especially Palps. He told you that the sith had been searching for millennia for that knowledge while implying that only the sith could do it, and you just uncritically accepted the version of history he presented you, just like you accepted Master Mundi (wrongly) stating “the Sith have been gone for a thousand years” as fact. Characters lie. They twist and manipulate for their own ends. Palps needed Anakin to believe that he (Palps) was the one true path to the ability to save Padme, and like all great manipulators, said what he needed to say to get the outcome he wanted.

Crackpot theory: Sol saved Mae, and Osha is the one who fell "to her death". Why else would "Mae" think Osha is dead if she's the one who fell into the abyss. Predicting the classic switcheroo

I've been indulgent with the first two episodes, I even kind of appreciate them, but seriously, what's the fuck? Making kids with the Force? Anakin is supposed to be special, an aberration, the chosen one of the Force. And if you take it a step further, a weird thing created by a Sith Lord whose particularity was to be able to create life with the Force, but which he never managed to reproduce, because, beeecause ? ... Yes ! Anakin is special and unique ! If you wanted two moms having childs, this is SF, you can invent entirely female species, or use technology, we don't give a damn, it would be even great and original but don't touch Anakin and the Force! It's not original (they have the same line as Schmi, that's lame), it's not useful, and it's not pleasant. It's just there to kick lore in the balls. Yet a scenario based on the Jedi taking kids away from their families and repressing Force-user sects was something to dig into, but this immaculate conception thing already makes me wince, but on top of that, the episode is messy and edited from the ass. It's hard to understand the sequence of events. The characters have contradictory reactions from one scene to the next, and like this fire, seriously? It barely starts, and poof, everyone's dead, not a single survivor. There's like 5 minutes between the start of the fire and the moment when Osha comes out of her room - 5 fucking minutes, and the fortress looks to be at least 100m high! Okay, lack of oxygen is deadly, but here ... Isn't it a little too deadly ? Come on, I'm pissed off again because of Star Wars ... Please give me a break LucasFilm.

This is not the same as Anakin, he is still unique and the chosen one. He was created by the will of the force itself to counteract what the Sith were doing and to bring balance. This was no manipulation but through the force. The twins were created through magik manipulation, they are not the chosen ones and are not taking anakins place. It’s like comparing a test tube baby to Jesus Christ. Also, it’s supposed to be blatantly obvious that they DIDN’T die by the fire, that’s the mystery.

@@IrrelevantPerson The fact is, Anakin's birth without a father is symbolic. He is supposed to be unique, to signify the special nature of his destiny. It's literally Jesus. Even with all the justifications in the world, to allow a similar birth through the Force is to weaken the symbolic impact of Anakin's. Even considering the Legend, and the idea that it was Plagueis who created Anakin thanks to the Force, the novel clearly indicates the miraculous side of this achievement, and the fact that despite his power and knowledge, he never succeeded in doing it again, because it was the will of the Force. And anyway, I'm not a big fan of this version of Anakin's birth being caused by a Sith. For the same reasons, it diminishes the narrative impact of the fact that he was born without a father. If the same result can be obtained in a "normal" way, without any notion of prophecy or chosen one, then there's no narrative reason to have made Anakin a fatherless child. It's like saying that Jesus was born of the will of the Holy Spirit, but that in the next village, there's a chick who did the same thing by drinking a magic potion. It makes the event less important symbolically. After that, I'm not totally closed to the idea of a birth similar to Anakin's. But it has to have at least as much symbolism, and a complete narrative arc. Anakin's destiny is 6 films and 7 seasons of a cartoon. Not a single line of dialogue in a flashback to a TV series whose events we know will have no major impact on the galaxy, since we already know what's going to happen 50 years and 100 years later. Osha and Mae are not important in the lore. It might have been different if it had taken place 1,000 years in the past, or even 500 years. But here, only one generation separates them from the Naboo Blockade. Whatever the conclusion of the show, by this time the Jedi have no knowledge that the Sith still exist, and that one of them has trained a Force cult witch to murder Jedi. It's an unimportant story, an incident in the history of the Galaxy. As I said, there's no need for it here - there were other ways to have girls in a community without men. Technology, alien race, adoption, using a donor. It's not original, as we've already seen with Anakin, and they even use Schmi's lines. And it's not pleasant, because it diminishes the strength of the symbol of the Chosen of the Force, by making one of its features less unique. Personally, all I see is a weakening of the symbolism of the Chosen One, with no narrative interest to justify it. As for the fire, yes, there's certainly something fishy going on, and I'm sure there's been some sort of mix-up, like a misunderstanding between the witches and the Jedis, and a confrontation, or something like that, which would explain why Sol is there at exactly the same time. But frankly, I was so pissed off about the whole Force birth thing (call it magic if you want, it's the Force they're using) that I had no tolerance for the end of the episode, especially since the editing was so bad.

If they are going to use flashbacks i really think they work better when combined with present day events. Having the entire episode be a flashback just doesnt do it for me because you have to rely on the children actors to carry it and i personally felt the acting was terrible. You can hide it with shorter flashbacks and then going back to how it affected present day events. This episode just felt bland and after 3 episodes im not nearly as onvested as i was after the 1st episode.

This episode was awfull, and boring. Perhaps it would have been better told through a series of flashbacks. Also, how can you have a fire spread when the walls are stone? How did everyone die? Perhaps there was a battle between the witches and the Jedi that we did not see, and would explain the need for revenge.

I would imagine much of it is unknown in order to illustrate the event through the memory of a human child. People are generally wrong when recalling past events, even recent events. A child would probably fill in gaps of memory to make sense of past events. Traumatized people probably invent more false memories like imagining someone died when actually they disappeared from their field of view.

Yeah we don’t know the story yet they definitely didn’t die from the fire, although castle fires have been a thing for a long time and fire spreads surprisingly well
