@SkeleTonHammer is it lazy though? It's such a poor argument on reused assets because there are so many games that reuse assets...but are they also lazy? Trails games, BotW/TotK, some Tales games, pokemon, Xenoblade, Final Fantasy, Dark Souls are among the many that reuse assets; some heavier than others. I do agree that the gameplay loop can be a bit tedious and frustrating often if you don't finish an area in time and you'll have to redo it, especially on a blind playthrough. I wish the song that slows down time was a little slower, but it is sufficiently forgiving enough if found.

@@SkeleTonHammerTo say Majora's Mask had a time crunch would be the understatement of the century. Miyamoto told Eiji Aonuma (the primary dungeon designer for OoT) to make remixed OoT dungeons for Ura Zelda (a remixed, harder OoT, which the concept of eventually became OoT Master Quest). But Aonuma didn't want to redesign the dungeons he had worked so hard on to make, as he thought they were at their peak. Miyamoto then allowed him to make a whole new, asset reusing game, but he wouldn't give them any extra time for it than they would have been given for Ura Zelda. That new game, the first Zelda game entirely directed by Eiji Aonuma, was Majora's Mask. I haven't fully played Majora's Mask, but I watched a full playthrough, then after finally playing OoT for myself, I started Majora's Mask, and it's fun so far.

54:12 is the reason why I will never call anyone who plays this game (and other games) stupid for not figuring things out. Even though I was only 5 or 6 years old, I vividly remember being stuck on that door and after 3 or 4 hours of running around in circles my Grandfather called the helpline to ask how to reach it. So no matter how much I know now, I always remember the regret of wasting money just to be told "you just jump."

I am not that far in the video yet, but I suspected what it was and looked at the search bar for that time and I was right... I'm pretty sure the fire temple, and that jump specifically, was our first hurdle in the game... It just doesn't look like you can make the jump, and if you try once and fail, it just locks in that notion, so you won't try again... until there is nothing else to do. I think we also wasted hours there.

Fire Temple (short of that jump that looks impossible) is a great example of how fresh every OoT dungeon is. Each one doesn't just have new puzzles, but new themes for puzzles. Like how in this case the Fire Temple is very largely based around a network of single-room puzzles. There's not a huge amount of traversing backwards to slowly piece together puzzles in individual rooms (like twisting the Forest Temple for example) but instead it's small single-room or two-room puzzles that link together to get you around and open up travel while you free the Gorons.

That is alo a valid strategy. You know, I don't think I've ever fought the flare dancer the way you're meant to (aka with the bombs, as the Goron tells you to). When you first tried to hit the dragon with the hammer you actually hit the ground instead of the dragon, that's why nothing happened.

From an article, “The chanting was taken from an open sound library as opposed to composed in-house by Nintendo, and it is an Islamic prayer chant.. There was no public outcry - Nintendo only realized after initial release that it was a prayer chant, which conflicts directly with their “no real-life religious references” policy. In response, they replaced the track for all subsequent versions.” Anyway, I’d recommend looking up the original music to hear what it sounded like! I always loved it.

@@SnailHatan It's not suggesting a direct "hateful, therefore guide user" connection. Rather, it's inferring guide usage from the commenters' unrealistic expectations about puzzle-solving speed. The argument is that these individuals are leaving hateful comments because the player is taking "too long" to figure things out. This implies they expect near-instant solutions, which is unrealistic for a blind playthrough of a game like Ocarina of Time. Such expectations suggest they might not have experienced the natural process of discovery and problem-solving themselves, leading to the conclusion that they likely relied on guides. Their hatefulness is just how they're expressing their impatience, not the reason for assuming guide usage.

“so many people”. Bruh. There are 100x more comments insulting those people than there are people insulting him, at least. I’ve seen hundreds of comments complaining about these mysterious meanies which I literally haven’t seen a single one of. And, no, they didn’t almost certainly use a guide. That’s just your ego attempting to minimize the sting

This episode was a blast to watch! That sidetrack halfway through to get to know the scarecrows was great. Can't wait for the next episode!

The manga actually added an interesting twist to volvagia. They made it a pet dragon link bought as a kid that was corrupted by ganon in the timeskip and made it a sad fight

Finally managed to catch up! This playthrough is pure delight. I’ve been going through a really tough period and being able to come watch you experience this game blind brought me back to precious childhood memories at a time when I needed it the most. Thank you and keep doing things your way. It’s the best.

I'm totally with you on that Fire Temple jump. Even on my second playthrough it just looked too far so I searched all over the place until I remembered the solution.

I only like watching blind playthroughs of games because it's less exciting when they know what is coming. Sometimes people getting stuck on things or not realising things can be frustrating especially if it's something the game told you but I would rather watch all the mistakes and laugh at them than have you be completely perfect at it straight away because thats the fun of a blind playthrough the figuring it all out 😁 loving this playthrough so far 😁

Thanks for bringing us on this journey! It's great to watch you think through the puzzles and find different ways to do things. On to the famous water temple next (this was my favorite actually).

I got stuck in that fire wall room years ago because I was convinced I couldn't make that jump either, so you're in good company lol. Thanks for an awesome playthrough, this has been fun watching you figure things out.

The firewall room jump is where I got stuck as a kid. I always ended up getting to this point and then restarting the game and doing everything possible up to that point again, and again, and again, until I lost my cartridge and wasn't able to get another copy for seven years (thank you Wii Shop Channel). Was pretty mad when I watched a video in the early days of KZbin and found out all I had to do was make a leap of faith. 😅 It's been really cool watching you play when so fresh to the series that even some of the tropes and gameplay habits are unfamiliar to you (and this game is ideal, honestly, because it tutorializes those as well as all of the early 3D gameplay features and mechanics), and while that can sometimes be frustrating I think it's more important that you're having fun and learning the game on your own terms. Your commentary is incredibly enjoyable.

I think people felt justified to tell you about the Roll, cause it is something you'd know if you read the instruction booklet that comes with the game. No one had that issue cause back then, cause if your parents bought you the game, on the ride home you read the booklet, mostly cause you are excited to play. It is basically a ritual.

Discovered your channel a few days ago! I like following this project a lot and i am glad I can watch a new part of it every day. Cyberpunk is next on my list. Thank you for this, Sir! Also, you seem like a very enjoyable, considerate person. I like how you emerge into the world, comment on atmosphere, music, NPCs and dialogue. I enjoy listening to your perspective. And fuck all haters and impatient fanbaseliners; you are progressing very well ingame despite playing blind. You should've seen me on my first playthrough... I was stuck in Kokiri Forest for four reallife-days, because couldn't find Kokiri sword! Or rather: my 10-yo-kiddo-brain couldn't remember, that i needed the sword in order to continue in the story. And who else can claim that they knew the path to Forest temple by heart before having gained access to Deku-tree yet!? In the end, I only found the sword, because I was like "Hell, yeah, I am gonna practice my swordsmanship with a Deku-stick in the Kokiri training grounds while i don't have a sword yet!!!" - so I went and found the hole that lead to the Kokiri sword XD Happy little accidents, like Bob Ross would say! Even I eventually progressed and managed to beat the game without a clue, a brain, the internet or an eager commenting section! You got this, too, I believe in you!

Just adding to the chorus, the ledge got me too. I also never knew those shaking blocks went up because they scared me so much I jumped off immediately. I got frustrated/stressed a lot in dungeons and ran around doing side stuff constantly is when I found a bunch of fun weird stuff like the scarecrows. If you never get frustrated and take a break explore you miss out on some of the fun stuff that isn’t strictly necessary to beat the game but is cool to discover and most of what I like about it. When I replay I’m shocked at how straightforward it can be because as a kid the game was essentially riding Epona around and exploring, with sprinklings of plot. I am stunned at how fast you managed both the run to the hammer chest and the run to the optional scarecrow chest. Maybe just me but I really struggled to get the timing right on the narrow paths and had to try over and over. No worries about consulting help; if I’m remembering right, part of the goal for Zelda from the first game was to be tricky enough to encourage talking to friends for help. And it is maddening when you can see what is next but the pieces aren’t clicking yet. Anyway: thanks for posting these, they are very fun, and I appreciate your low key but enthusiastic approach.

I know you want to make your target audience happy but anyone who would call you stupid for playing through at your own pace and having fun as you work things out aren’t people you should consider your target audience. Please do your best to ignore them because those people absolutely needed help in figuring out some of these puzzles and absolutely got stuck at least once or twice, they just pretend they know it all. I and many others are really enjoying this journey with you as you figure everything out. This is a genuine blind playthrough which is rare to find nowadays, and I think you’re doing really well.
