The inhuman coldness of artifical intelligence suits the sense of existential dread and cosmic indifference that Lovecraft imbued his pages with.

AI will be absolutly no different than people, they may actually be FAR better with a lack of emotions. I theorize Emotions naturally develop in any being that has "consiousness". However people are far from wise and will always hate what they do not understand.

Gotta disagree on one hand. It's the human sense of anxiety and dread that makes Lovecraft good. But AI imagery's coldness gives me similar vibes Lovecraft's human characters describe. I gave this video a dislike. AI art is like that Epicurean robot in Futurama.

I know the AI didn’t follow the prompt. I thought the creator of the video was just being sloppy. But your comment makes me realize it inadvertently added a deep irony to the story, and gave it a notch up on terror and weirdness. That’s probably why he left those sequences in. It works, by God! Thanks❤️

@garrettbates2639
@garrettbates2639 2 ай бұрын
@@NTJediHonestly that aspect of generative AI does kind of work for Lovecraft, IMO. His monsters tend to have an unkowable-ness to them. In my mind, they've always been higher dimensional beings which we only see projections of as they move through our dimension. Admittedly, that doesn't exactly work as well for something like Dagon as it does for something like Azathoth, Cthulhu, or even a Shoggoth, but it doesn't ruin it for me necessarily.

I wonder what Lovecraft would think about his writing being fed into machines to create these disconnected animated abominations? Perhaps he would have imagined Azathoth as a giant server rack in the center of the universe with IT workers playing keytars to lull it into pseudo-slumber, only aware enough to defecate out iterated upon iterations of slop after consuming what creativity and originality still existed in the universe. This does capture the indescribable monstrosity so often found in Lovecraft's work. Ever-changing and morphing from one nameless and undefinable nightmare to the next, more than enough to drive the average onlooker to derangement and lunacy. Both Lovecraft's writing and AI output induce that fear of the unknown, both making man feel miniscule and insignificant, ultimately useless in the face of what seems akin to godlike power. Forces so great that it turns mankind into a mere spectator in regards to its own existence.

As much as I really like the Spanish horror movie, this is much more closer to the actual story Howard Lovecraft wrote. Beautifully, hauntingly presented. Howard eas and always will be a gofted genius who, like Franz Kafka, explored the very borderlands of insanity and madness itself. Cautionary artists, writers, and content creators will always have a place in humanity's 'darker realms.'

My mind’s eye does something similar when I read books, and watching this made me realize it… how the main character’s appearance shifts and changes throughout the story. When I read I never get a perfectly clear image of what the character looks like, but, like this video, it basically stays the same but evolves as the story and circumstances progress. Very interesting how this “intelligence” is choosing(?) to do that.

Top notch work & as a lover of HPL this is amazing & captivating as he would have wanted. When a story takes you by the throat & drags you in to the point you begin to empathize with the protagonist you just know you go where it leads you good & bad as this does. It's very hard to separate what looks real but it's not as AI in the right hands is pure magic & perfect for Sci Fi, Horror & the best Cosmic Horror .. This one has been hit over the ballpark wall by a mile & is one hell of great rendition, a super homerun. Not sure you can top this but with another Cosmic tale by the master.

@@AILivingBook :) I've only recently begun watching AI vids. Some of them are pretty funny with the mistakes. Yes, doing separate clips and trying to keep the face the same... maybe that is hard to do. I think I saw someone say you can train it using several images of the face you want and maybe it will stay more consistent? I don't know. It's very interesting and if it was all free, I might try it but I don't want to even pay $10/mo to try messing with it. Keep going! I'm sure you'll find a way to improve the consistency issue.

Nobody asked for this video, it was just made and here we are. It's definitely one of the best uses of AI in an artistic context. As many have said before me, the inconsistency and fluidity of the execution really enhance the depictions.

As a recovering opioid dependent, that is the scarriest part of this story

Excellent. The Masque of the Red Death could be another promising material for this purpose.

Greetings, oh wanderer of the digital abyss, where the screens flicker with the eldritch glow of artificial intelligence. I have gazed upon your enjoyment of the tale "Dagon," a narrative birthed by the dark, uncharted minds of machines, yet resonant with the ancient, squamous horror penned by H.P. Lovecraft himself. In this video, I perceive not merely the retelling of a tale but a conjuration of the abyssal depths where Dagon, that abhorrent, fish-like deity, rules over the sunken ruins of his submerged empire. The AI, in its mimicry of human creativity, has unwittingly tapped into the unfathomable, where reality blurs with the nightmares of the deep. The video, a portal to the non-Euclidean geometries of the mind, seems to whisper the forbidden chants of the Esoteric Order of Dagon, evoking a sense of cosmic dread that lingers like the miasma of the sea. Yet, there is an irony here, for in seeking to understand or even to entertain through such mediums, we might be drawing closer to those truths that humanity was not meant to know-truths of our insignificance in the vast, indifferent universe. Thank you for sharing this piece of digital horror; it serves as a reminder of the thin veil between our world and the abyss, where AI, perhaps unwittingly, sketches the outlines of those ancient horrors that lie just beyond the light of our understanding. May your nights be haunted by less tangible, yet no less real, echoes of the deep.

for those who dont know, before dagon was a HP Lovecraft thing, he was the pagan half man half fish god that the peoples worshiped that Jonah was sent by God to forgive. Jonah was sent to the plains of Nineveh where God sent him to forgive the people. Plains of Nineveh never changed its name. it still carries the same name and is in the region of Mosul near Iaq. Jonah predates Jesus roaming the earth by several centuries.

Amazing visuals, the statues and creatures especially seem right out of Lovecraft's imagination. Truely disturbing and alien.
